What's new

What would you trade jefferson for?

Meh. Maybe if it were a pick this season.
Lindsey would be smarter to use cap space for either a quality FA or whatever assets he can acquire as a facilitator in the LBJ sweepstakes.

the heck are the LBJ sweep stakes?

LeBron James opting out of his contract and then going to the highest bidder. Decision II: America Held Hostage. Coming soon to an NBA arena near you.

There are very few teams that can offer a contract to Lebron outright...and he knows it. But he's hinted at what might already be in the works (yes, I know...tampering (bwahaha)) by saying all teams are in play. S&T's are a bit more restrictive under the new CBA. Not sure what MIA could do if he really decides to leave (maybe GVC or Kenwood could weigh in). In any case, if a team needs to clear some cap space to sign LeBron, Utah will have a ton. Not as much as last season, but certainly enough to take on a good chunk of salaries for the right compensation.

But just think if a bidding war heats up. The team that LBJ favors will bend over backwards to clear room to sign him. Unless a really good FA wants to sign with the Jazz, I'm hoping Lindsey lets others eat up their cap room while he sits back and waits. GS gave us a ton of picks because we were the only team that could help them out.

are you saying we are gona be absorbing a ton of contracts in exchange for draft picks? lol

I could see it happening again, although not at the same level. Jazz have $30M coming off the books. Have to account for the raises for Favors and Hayward and the cap holds for the draft picks. Utah will still have about half that $30M in "mad money" to use on FA's or in trades.

I'd guess Lindsey would go after veterans depending on who he drafts (starting SF, stretch-4) but if no one is available he likes, then go to Plan B and pile up more assets.

My dream trade (that has almost no chance in hell of happening) would be:

utah giving up:
1. marvin (decent rotation player who plays hard and can play either 3 or 4, understands and excels at defense at the 3. Expiring contract).
2. r.J. ( 7th best 3pt shooter in NBA, provides veteran leadership. Expiring contract).
3. ian Clark (supposedly a 3pt marksman, possible piece of future. Was Summer League MVP. Cheap team option for 2nd year).
4. 2014 GSW pick

celtics give us:

1.Rondo! (Still has a ways to go before he is impact player that he was. He can teach Burke how to get more assists, and about defense, and then whoever's better next year starts. Trey has hit rookie wall, Rondo is still nursing injury. Neither will affect tank rank much).
2. Kris Humphries (expiring contract. Doubt even corbin would play him ahead of Kanter).

The problem with trading Jefferson, is that there really isn't a "bad" contract out there. Here are the top salaries in the NBA:

1. Kobe Bryant $30,453,000 2. Dirk Nowitzki $22,721,381 3. Gilbert Arenas $22,346,536 4. Amare Stoudemire $21,679,893 5. Carmelo Anthony $21,490,000 6. Joe Johnson $21,466,718 7. Dwight Howard $20,513,178 8. Pau Gasol $19,285,850 9. Chris Bosh $19,067,500 9. LeBron James $19,067,500 11. Kevin Durant $18,773,176 12. Chris Paul $18,668,431 13. Dwyane Wade $18,536,000 14. Deron Williams $18,466,130 15. Rudy Gay $17,888,932 16. Zach Randolph $17,800,000 17. Brandon Roy $17,779,458 18. Derrick Rose $17,632,688 19. Blake Griffin $16,402,500 20. Paul Pierce $15,333,334 21. Carlos Boozer $15,300,000 22. Marc Gasol $14,860,523 23. Brook Lopez $14,694,000 24. Kevin Love $14,693,906 24. Russell Westbrook $14,693,906 26. Emeka Okafor $14,544,687 27. Luol Deng $14,312,125 28. Roy Hibbert $14,283,844 28. Eric Gordon $14,283,844 30. Andrew Bogut $14,200,000 - See more at: https://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm#sthash.NFzNOmCU.dpuf

I don't think any of those teams are looking to move those players. There aren't any AK's on there.

Let's just trade him straight up for LeBron.

I wonder if fans of other teams are looking at a guy like Andris Biedrins and thinking how easy it would be to push a guy like Jefferson (who can contribute as a lesser cost) on the Jazz for the rest of the season for only a 2nd round pick. Expiring for an expiring. That's what the Jazz should be looking at. There has to be other Andris Biedrins out there. Even if they have to package both Marvin and Jefferson it would be a good investment.
