What's new

Francisco Elson

Don't understand the dislike of Elson. He's worked out better than I thought, for sure. He certainly has more moves than Fes.

Fes is just big - that's all.

Elson is great because he can hit the jumpshot yet he is really tough inside. I like him and his stupid smile.

It's nice to have a 7-footer who can actually come off the bench and play solid defense and not be a complete liability on offense. So far Elson has proven to be a great pickup for the Jazz, as he is a role player who seems to have found his niche with the team. And even better, when Memo gets back that likely means the the big Ukrainian rahtard will be glued to the bench where he belongs.

I'm glad Sloan stuck with Elson tonight - he deserved the extra minutes.

Elson was playing little "Rodmanesque" mind games on Griffin - playing super physical and then patting him on the back during dead balls. I think he got into the rookies head a little bit.

I love how Sloan sticks with the matchup that works best in a given game. Elson held Griffin to 2 pts and 1 board in 4th. When Memo gets back, Sloan will have even more options to create with, though defense may suffer some.

It's clear the zone knocked the Clippers out of sync, and once they started settling for jumpers, they never went back to Griffin.

I also like Elson. Fes looked more impressive during the preseason. Maybe he needs more minutes?

Absolutely I would be giving Elson the bulk of the backup C minutes and only use Fesenko situationally as needed. And then like I said earlier, when Memo gets back split the minutes between them and leave Fesenko on the end of the bench.

Elson was very good overall tonight, but for some reason, one moment stuck with me. It was when he stripped Griffin of the ball and started to dribble towards the basket, but he then realized he can't beat Griffin in a foot race and he gave it up to Watson, who then hit him back with a pass. When he started to dribble, I thought the play would result in a turnover. Instead, he got a three point play. Veteran move, right there.

Elson has been a pleasant surprise. I figured a 30-something year old player that had been completely dumped by the Spurs and buried on the bench by the Bucks couldn't be that good. But this simply proves how much more the Jazz system and culture values teamwork, hard-work, and intelligence than other teams, because Elson doesn't have much ability to do anything on his own. Even though he made some ****ing bad-*** plays tonight.

Elson played great in LA today.

Lots of hate earlier in this thread towards him for sure... he's fitting in well with the system now - and showing a high bball IQ.

Good stuff. We have a bunch of guys that are bringing defensive effort and length in the front court... it's nice.

Reminds me of the Danny Manning pick up a few years back. Granted, Elson doesn't have the offensive game Manning had; but a veteran big coming off the bench who is not going to kill you with mistakes and every once in a while makes a significant contribution like tonight.

Looking at the first page of this thread, it would seem there is a lot of crow to be eaten. Get your bibs out.

I'm glad Elson is playing well. I always thought he seemed like a cool guy.

What's interesting is that he played well while playing in our darker road jerseys. Maybe that reminded him of his time with the Spurs and gave him more confidence? ;)
