What's new

Following potential 2014 draftees

Haven't been watching him lately. I think he started the year off waaaaay hot from 3, then he hit a slump to even it out. He's shooting 37% on the year. I bet he finishes the year right about there.

I always thought that 50% from deep was hard to sustain with his flat shooting form.

Shows you that hyping HS'ers off mixtapes is dumb.

Harrisons hype was from mixtapes??? i thought it was from unanimously being the top PG by all scouting services, playing on championship winning HS and AAU teams, and being invited to all the elite camps/games the past few summers..

Can someone please tell me what happened to Andrew Harrison?

Sent from the JazzFanz app

sure, the biggest issue that flies in the face of his HS scouting report is that hes not making his teammates better, theres not much of an AST/TO ratio but he hasent been as bad as some would have you believe, I'm fairly certain hed be drafted in the 1st round this year. One thing that has been prevalent is bad body language(Aaron included), lots of pouting/ showing frustration, complaining about calls. Theres also a consistency issue, disappearing in bad games

the Harrisons were never hyped as elite leapers but for a 6'5" PG Andrew doesnt seem to be easily finishing over or through defenses, he does though get to the line at a very high rate which is his saving grace and ultimately will get him drafted, plus hes shooting 37% from 3 which is pretty good

Do it. I'd happily throw in one of those guys. Parker or bust

Get Parker and you're just a few role players and a coach away from contending. It's that simple.

Well you just gave away have the team so I highly doubt the Jazz would be a couple of role players away with Jabari. I hope Dennis Lindsey has more sense then to do that trade especially since we don't know if the Bucks will have the number one pick. Besides the fact that Parker isn't a sure top 1 pick. I like Parker and he would look great in a Jazz uniform but not even Lebron James could win with a bunch of role players.

McDermott with a quick 18 so far against Nova, just pulled off a dirk style stepback/fadeaway

I was about to post this same thing.

He's an intriguing prospect. Reminds me of a Chandler Parsons or a young Matt Harpring. People forget how good Harpring was before knee injuries and age slowed him down. A nice stretch 4 or a big 3. Could provide a lot of match up problems in this nba that seems to be moving towards more and more 3 pt shooting.

I wouldn't take him in the top 8 in this draft. However, mid to late lotto? Absolutely. Especially if our new HC can run a system that makes sense. I mean, could you imagine what McDermott would do in the Suns, Warriors, Rockets, or Spurs systems?

Um you need role players to win championships, you need a star to push you over the edge. If Lebron came here, we would be a contender. Just look at what KD is doing in Oklahoma. He only has a bunch of role players, could use more even.

Finding replacements for guys like kanter, Burks, Hayward, Jefferson, M Williams is easy. I mean, just look at the revolving door of role players we have had since booz/Duron era.... Or since the Malone/Stockton era! Finding a franchise player and star? Much more difficult.

Our top priority for the past few years should have been obtaining a star player. I thought it was this year. Especially after the GS trade. Anyone that thought Hayward, Fsvors, or Burke was that person needs to be shot.

We get another role player this summer what are we improved? A spot or two higher? Yipee, we are still several spots from even an 8th seed. Obtain Parker or Wiggins? We are into playoff contention next year and literally on our way to competing with the best.

Good post. What do good teams have in common? They have a few really good players and a good coach. Look as SAS. They have Duncan/Parker/Ginobili. No matter who you put with those 3, they have been good. Having the best coach in the league doesn't hurt either. Bulls had Jordan/Pippen, and did well with a number of different role players. OKC has Durant/Westbrook, and has been near the top of the west for the last few years with that.

Jazz really need 2-3 key pieces and the rest doesn't matter as much. I don't know if any of the current players have what it takes to be that for the Jazz. Maybe #2, but not #1. If you can trade a #3, #4, #5 and #6 for a #1, do it. You can find the #3-6 a lot easier down the line. I happen to like the potential of the guys on the team, so would rather have them as the #2-6 if we get lucky in the lottery, but finding a #1 is the most important right now.

And with the #8 pick, the Utah Jazz select Doug McDermott.
You know it's going to happen. He has a CAREER average of 55%/46%. That is simply unbelievable.

McDermott needs a system like one of those listed above. If he gets drafted to the wrong team he will have a terrible career. He's a very good college player, but NBA is different.

This.

If he lands on team like the Bobcats or Hawks, he's screwed.

Draftexpress has him going to the magic. I don't know what they try to do these days. However, if they still had Dwight and SVG, he would fit in perfectly as their stretch 4.

I'm guessing will probably go mid-first round. Meaning, if we can't get him hopefully he goes to a team with a solid system. I think it would be fun to watch him on the Spurs, Rockets, Warriors, or Suns. Could you imagine what Hornacek or Pops could do with him?

If he is still available whenever the warriors pick is and we don't take him I'll be pissed. If we ever get back to a Sloan-like offensive system that kid would be dynamite off the bench as a 3. I see young Matt Harpring who was awesome before injuries.

Or he could be used as a stretch 4 (like Marvin but with a post game). One bright spot in Corbin's offense has been his use of a stretch 4.

It makes me sad thinking of what Hornacek could have done with out young guys. Good post.
