The Perfect Movie

I've actually seen edited versions of nearly all of the R rated ones. My comments on your list:

Big Lebowski - great movie, not quite "perfect"
Godfather - agreed, perfect
Jaws - didn't do much for me
Empire - perfect
Josie Wales - not quite perfect
Pulp Fiction - haven't seen it, will add it to my "to watch" list (edited version)
Shawshank - just a notch below perfect. but on another day I might call it perfect
Usual Suspects - same comment as Shawshank
L.A. Confidential - I'm pretty sure I saw it (edited for TV) a while back, but I can't really remember it
Almost Famous - haven't heard of it
Fight Club - haven't seen, no real desire to watch it
Zombieland - same comment as Fight Club

The Big Lebowski transcends the word "perfect".

I absolutely agree,

Hills have eyes, Saw 1-1,000, Hostel...never seen any of them and I never will.

Same with over the top horror movies. Like all these posession/poltergiest ones.

The original "Saw" is brilliant. I hate gore movies so I stayed away from it, but was told that it's not a slasher/gore movie so I gave it a shot. I'm glad I did. I've never felt the need to check out any of the 30-something sequels.

Not a movie, per se, but "Lonesome Dove" is perfect and something I can watch on a snowy day when there's nothing else to watch.

Oh hells yes. Love that thing.

My list would include:
Star Wars
Indiana Jones 1-3
Princess Bride
Ferris Bueller
Cool Hand Luke
The Sandlot
A River Runs Through It
Jeremiah Johnson

There are certainly more, but my "free time" just expired, so I need to wipe and go to my daughters soccer game.

How in the **** do you idiots miss the Jane Austen movies???? What the **** is the matter with you???

Sense & Sensibility
Pride & Prejudice
Persuasion
Emma

Those are the big 4....

I can't believe you stupid ****ers haven't even mentioned those. Where's your ****ing refinement?

I just checked out IMDB for Mr. Deeds... 5.8/10. Maybe I won't add it to my "to watch" list after all. (sorry Loggrad)

Don't pass on it. It is by no stretch the greatest movie of all time, but it has really funny moments, zero crudity, and a good ending. It is a remake of a 50's movie, I believe, Mr. Deeds Goes to Washington. Give it a watch and if you really hate it I will buy you a tub of popcorn. It is a true family favorite of ours, for all of our kids and my wife and I.

Don't. Please, for the love of humanity, don't. "Pulp Fiction" is one movie I would strongly advise you to stay away from, in any version.

This. I thought it was the most over-rated movie I have ever seen.

I can't believe I forgot about Ferris Beuler. Watch that at least a couple times a year. Another I can watch again and again is Fletch.

Another one that I could watch over and over that gets passed over a lot is The Dream Team. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people hadn't seen it, and I have no idea what ratings it got, but it cracks me up every time I watch it. Worth watching if you are looking for something a little off-kilter.

Citizen Kane
Casablanca
Vertigo
2001: A Space Odyssey
Bull Durham
Taxi Driver
Godfather 1&2
Full Metal Jacket
The Pianist
Pulp Fiction
Big Lebowski
The King's Speech
Lost in Translation

These are my all-time favorites off the top of the dome. All are must watch.

To each his own. Easily towards the bottom of Sandler's work.

This. I thought it was the most over-rated movie I have ever seen.

Pretty much sums up every Tarantino film.

Three movies I will stop and watch no matter where they in the story line and regardless of what I was just watching are:

Dumb and Dumber
Shawshank Redemption
Empire of the Sun

Two movies I have watched several times and really enjoyed:

A League of Their Own
Far and Away

I also find Saving Private Ryan and the series Band of Brothers very satisfying.

These are just a couple of mine, it'd be too difficult to do all of them.

Dumb and Dumber
Gladiator
Braveheart
Tommy Boy
Equilibrium
No Country For Old Men
Gangs of New York
Princess Bride
Blazing Saddles
Spaceballs
Star Wars
Indiana Jones (but not the new one)
Caddyshack
Ghostbusters
Christmas Vacation (basically all of these)
The Jerk
Three Amigos

The list is endless.
