What do you all think of what is going down in Ukraine.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wo...a-admits-its-troops-are-moving-in-Crimea.html

Basically protests started against the President. Gun fights between protestors and riot police broke out. The president fled to Russia. The East and South of Ukriane lean Russian and the North and West lean towards the EU. Crimea in the very south of Ukraine is seeing active Russian military presence and looks to be attempting to break away from Ukraine and join Russia. A new president has been appointed and is already calling on the US and UK to honor defense agreements signed in the 1990s.

Russian armored personel carriers, attack helicopters and armed soldiers have been spotted on the streets of several Crimean cities. They have take over several government buildings and regional airports.

America, Britian, France, Germany, Switzerland, Poland... have all blasted Russia for escalating the situation.

What are the chances this leads to war? If so will it be a civil war, Ukriane v. Russia (similar to what happened in Georgia?), EU v. Russia, America v. Russia or NATO v. Russia?

we've been stockpiling weapons and ammo while the yanks have been investing in soon-to-be worthless stocks and tons of throw pillows.

Just detonate nuclear warheads 5 miles up over the oceans off of northen CA and RI.

Mountain West, Great Plains and the South survive and its buiness as usual. West Coast, Great Lakes and New England are suddenly using horses and candles.

In worst case scenario, I think Ukraine will be split in 2 and the eastern part will gain some pro-russian status like Transnistria (Transdniestria) in Moldova. Crimean and the east is primarily russian-populated. The Russians are hugely vested in keeping the Crimean peninsula for themselves (which BTW has been historically Russian and was given to Ukraine by Khrushchev in the 50ies as a gift) - they have the Black Sea fleet stationed there and huge bases. I don't see a civil war and I don't see an occupation by Russia (though with Putin, everything is possible).

My company has a huge office in Kiev and I work daily with people there. More than half of my team is in Kiev.

I ultimately believe Ukraine gets split in two as well. Crimea and the east join Russia and the North and West join the EU/NATO.

Problem there is that Russia is adamant about Ukraine not joining NATO.

Mila kunis is from Ukraine..... so im for it

Updates:

Russia has admitted to having armed forces off their bases in Crimea. They justify this by saying they are securing their black fleets interests. They have since had troops at a Ukrainian coast guard base and some border crossings with Russia.

Britian's PM called and spoke with Russian Pres. Putin. They claim to agree that the Ukrainin elections coming up are the best way forward.

Lithuania, acting Security Council Chair, has called a special meeting of all 15 Security council members regarding Ukraine at Ukraine's request. It is taking place at 1 PM MT

America has said that the deposed President of Ukraine (he is Russian backed) gave up all rights to the PResidency when he left the country. The officialy support the new interm government.
