Following potential 2014 draftees

You could switch Hansbrough for Randle in this paragraph and everything would be the same.

Also, FWIW, he shot under 50% during conference play. Averaged something like 13 and 10. Still solid numbers, and he'll be a solid pro…but I wouldn't pick him in the top 10. Maybe not even in the top 15.

Nice try, but I'm pretty sure Hansbrough can't do this:

The biggest difference between Hansbrough and the guys I mentioned in my post above is athleticism.

Oh c'mon.

You see Randle do anything like that against real competition this year? I don't think so.

And for all of his athleticism, he sure doesn't do anything on defense.

Someone called me a troll for calling bs on the Exum hype pre-season. I'm even more certain of it now with more footage. He's athletic enough against 18 year old, un-athletic white kids in Australia, but getting shut down by them at times makes him a non-starter in the lottery.

Troll.

Also, I'm not saying Randle = Hansbrough. Randle is clearly more athletic, and a better player than Hansbrough, but I'm tempering my expectations from him. He could be a dependable starter for a couple years, but I really don't think he's anything special. He's an average NBA forward.

This... I was the first and most consistent voice on the 'warning' of Randle, but he will be a good player. No triple teams, TONS of tough play.. he'll be 'good.'

this isnt Dennis Schroeder level mystery, Exum has been a known commodity for a pretty long shelf life considering his age/location. even though Dante is 2 years younger, gauging his progress next to the timeline of a player like GR III can help illustrate the size of his body of work

Glenn Robinson III was the big late rising HS player in the 2012 class, he wasent a 5 star recruit until late in the process (looking now at his sagging %'s it seems like that was his peak).

Exum in 2011 (at 15) was invited to be a member of the senior National Team, received his AIS Scholarship, and was a feature story in Australian news.

so yeah i guess during the time when GR III went from a 4 star to 5 star recruit to a top-10 guy to a lottery guy to a fringe 1st rounder, Exum's been consistently building momentum... i dont see how you can fault him, or grade him any less than cant miss...

its not like hes avoiding camps/events...it should be noted hes participated in everything you could ask of an international prospect(Addidas Eurocamps, Hoops Summit, Addidas Nations, U-17 and U-19 World Championships etc.)

i'm not denying his potential and talent. from tapes i've seen i can see why people draw tmac comparison. i also see little bit of young penny. i brought up glenn robinson III because highlight reel only tell half the story especially when it's against inferior talent pool. grob barks big in highlights, but he plays like a lil pup when you put the game tape on. dude lacks aggression. too passive. why? he lacks alpha dog mentality. and he plays in a team where 2 other players are better than him mentally. in noway shape or form stauskas or levert are more talented than grob III. but they play with heart and aggression. what happens if exum played for Kansas? could he be a lead dog in that stacked team? what about duke? what would he avg? from what i've seen, exum looks like a confident player. he does look like he can be a leader, alpha dog. but still, i didn't experience him for full season like other top picks. i could argue maybe grob III can be a big dog in a small pond too. i doubt it, but it can happen because he would know he is clearly superior than anybody on the court.

and that's the only reason why i can't pick him at top 5. it's too much of a gamble for me. i've only seen 1 full game of him. someone posted it on here. my verdict - inconclusive. but i think he is a worth a gamble at #7-8 if he puts up good numbers in predraft. there is a reason why he is a big deal. had he come out last year, he would've been easily top 5. right now, i would put him in the 2nd tier #6-#9 range.

I'm in no way talking about Davis today. This is all pre draft certainty.

If you're telling me you were sure Davis would be a sure thing like LeBron, Howard etc I'm calling you a liar.

After the 2012 draft, Chad Ford polled all the GM's in the league. He had them rank how highly they viewed each #1 pick pre draft from the past 20 years (for instance, how much they liked Oden pre-draft, not with the knowledge we have today). Anthony Davis ranked #6 (ahead of Allen Iverson and Dwight Howard).

I was the first and most consistent voice on the 'positioning' of Randle. He should play more of a LeBron type role, holding the ball top of the key, passing, making plays and driving & dishing.

I stopped watching UK basketball when all I saw was Randle being buried deep in the paint, plays after plays, after plays, while the likes of Young, et. al. pass the ball around & jacking up contested 3's at the buzzer.

TJ Warren with another 25, hes got it rolling. Im thinking about picking them to upset St. Louis

ive been trying to tell everyone about Hezonja since last year!!! those highlights i posted from the other day are really encouraging, hes added some muscle for sure. really hoping he gets more minutes to close the season. heres 2014 highlights so far

Other than his talent, which I love BTW, I really want to hear bolerjack and harping scream out "Super Mario!" many times a game.

Weaknesses:
-Looked disconnected mentally from his teammates, and from the game in general. Constantly talking to opponents. Seems to lack focus on the court
-Struggles operating within a team concept. Only really looks comfortable in isolation or pick and roll settings
-Goes too many possessions where he dribbles the ball incessantly and then settles for a contested pull-up jumper
-Needs to improve ball-handling skills in half-court. Doesn't change speeds or directions. If can't simply blow by his man, immediately pulls up off the dribble
-Struggles defensively off the ball. Shows poor awareness

Outlook: One of the top prospects in the world in his age group based on sheer talent. Has already seen minutes in the ACB and Euroleague with Barcelona's senior team. Struggled badly with his shot-selection and all-around decision making throughout the NIJT. Shot 5/39 from beyond the arc in the seven games he played, and only got to free throw line 18 times. Averaged over 5 turnovers per-40. Showed poor body language as well. Team seemed to be much better off when he was on the bench. No one doubts his talent, but more and more doubts are creeping in as to whether his poor mentality will prevent him from reaching his tremendous potential.

Since there is two days before the 2nd round of the NCAA Tourny begins, I'm going to give you my top-10 players in this draft with analysis, for anyone that cares.. The first five today and the next five tomorrow:

1. Jabari Parker - I've probably watched Duke play more than any other team this year along with Oklahoma St. Before I start, Jabari is good.. Real good. He has an NBA ready body already. At 6'8 and almost 235 lbs that's the body of LeBron right there. In my opinion, definitely the best player in the draft right now. Can shoot from anywhere on the court and he likes to post up as well. Does it all on the court and doesn't really have much weaknesses. Jabari already has good sense for the game and is NBA ready at this point. If you had to say one thing bad about him is he isn't the fastest or most athletic, but if you watched the ACC Tournament, you might have something to say to that. Consistently can get you 20+ PPG at the next level, I would put him into the category that he could change a franchise around right now.

2. Joel Embiid - Best big man in the draft easily. Has shown very good offensive skills as well as defensive which makes him much more desirable. A two-way player with great size for a big-man. What's not to like? The bad thing is he hasn't really put him huge numbers like Wiggins hasn't. I believe he can be in the double-digits in scoring and rebounding averages per game in the NBA as well as 2-3 blocks per game. The good thing for Embiid is that big men are hard to come by in the NBA, but the downside as well is the recent busts of big men; Oden, Thabeet, etc. Hopefully he isn't injury prone and can come back strong as ever. Not much to say here, but he has so much potential going forward and already is polished with his moves. One downside along with injuries is he can get a little bit quicker.

3. Andrew Wiggins - Not even gonna lie, I am really disappointed in what Wiggins has done this year. With all that hype coming into college he hasn't really impressed. I really don't want to put him here at #3, but based on potential alone and what he has done the past couple of games without Embiid puts him here. Superior to anyone else when it comes to athleticism for sure. Has shown that he can be a dominant scorer at times this year, but also hasn't. One thing I have to say is he is limited with touches because of all the talent he has around him. Not much to say about him because the jury is still out, but right now he is #4 and still has a lot to prove. Seems really skinny, but obviously (see Durant) that can be overcome. Still can be a franchise player and still is a top-5 player in this draft, just needs to prove he can be in the NCAA Tournament.

4. Dante Exum - We have some footage of him as well as the Hoops Summit, but he has so much raw talent at such a young age. At 6'5 and 190 lbs he has pretty good size for a guard, built like recent stud Carter-Williams. I'm going to get on Wiggins for his weight, so I need to for Exum as well, but for a guard that isn't bad size at all. So smooth with the ball and so athletic as well. At the Nike Hoops Summit I was very impressed with him as well as the announcer was, who said his athleticism is reminiscent of a young Jordan. There is so much there for Exum and I wouldn't be upset at all if the Jazz got him in the draft. With the great success of Giannis lately, how can anyone brush off Exum as someone who can't be a superstar one day? I'm intrigued at what he can become to add on to what he already is.

5. Marcus Smart - As already mentioned, along with Duke I have watched Oklahoma St. a lot. Sure, anybody can say there are red flags with his personality and what not, but we truly do not know the circumstances of it. Anyways, Smart passed up millions to come back to college to get better and to win a title. He has really benefited from coming back and has shown that he is one of the best players in the country. Great size for a guard, built like James Harden and is a dynamic scorer. Smart can play point guard, but the real question is can he play shooting guard? I think he can, but I guess it really depends on the team. A good play maker and I really wanted to put him higher on this list, but we'll see what happens in the tournament and everybody knows that it can help and hurt players a lot.
