In a couple of days. He has been in the league for 4 years. He really improved his rebounding and passing, but his FG% declined every year.

So, is he what it is right now or does he still has a potential to get significantly better? To be honest, I do not remember any great wing player who still has not realized his potential by the age of 24. But this is Hayward, one of the most enigmatic players. So, what do you think?

Demar Derozan? That was easy.

And that's why he's a solid third/fourth option worth about $8 mil a year tops, $10 if you don't have a choice.

Yes, I thought about DeRozan as well, so I checked his stats prior to starting this thread. DeRozan is 24.5 now. He played as a 20 PPG scorer and the indisputable leader of the team since the second half of the last season when he was still 23.

I think we have a good image of what he is, but he can still get a lot better by the coach we have and teammates around him; when he's in a good role and not a 1st option.

Players can and do improve at any age. Just look at richard jefferson, he was barely a bench player last year and this year he is in the mvp discussion

Still think Hayward is overwhelmed by this year but he has done some good stuff this year... I think he could be a good 2nd option..

He does really well when he plays with Burks and Burke... They take off the pressure!!!

You also want to give high IQ players a longer time as well. They are like a sponge and adapt their game over a long time. And Hayward has a higher basketball IQ than most.

Hayward will be 24.5 next season.

Arron Afflalo is another one. He's 28 and still improving.

Chandler Parsons is 25 and still improving. He made a lot of his progress last year when he was 24.

Pippen showed big improvement at 25 and 26.

Manu Ginobili was 27 before he started looking like Manu

Kyle Korver took a big step forward at 25

Gerald Green is 28 and looks lightyears beyond the player he was just last year.

You keep Hayward, because you can. You don't know what he can do in an offense that was catered to his strengths, and alongside a #1. Whatever his contract ends up being, it will be off the books by the time this year's draft pick's rookie scale expires.

If I'm DL I'm making and taking phone calls about Hayward up to the draft. Difficult spot though, not many teams want to trade for an Rfa with a chance they lose him, or have to match an awful contract.

He'd be right about the bolded section.

mildly unrelated but just wanted to point out "superstar" paul george's three-month long "shooting slump"

Ya i dont consider george a "superstar". All star caliber for sure, but i dont think he is top five in the league..... maybe not even top ten

Poll is somewhat confusing...the first option says Gordon will get "MUCH" better. How much is "much"? I think Hayward will improve, but not "much"...never to an all-star level. His shooting will improve, I don't think it can get any worse. Maybe he gets smarter with the ball and turns it over less, and maybe he'll learn how to finish better at the rim, but he'll never be a 20 ppg/all-star level player in this league and he'll never be a leader.

I said before this year that betting Hayward would become anything more than he's already been would be a losing bet. And we all know how that turned out.

I would say that banking on a player that seems to have run into a brick wall in his fourth year is even more of a losing bet. But sure, he technically can improve (like anyone technically can).

He would be considered a veteran in many of nowadays' JazzFanz opinions, but I do believe that the prime era of a talented basketball player -especially a point forward- is the maturing phase between 24-28. I believe Hayward has still a lot of way to go to his ceiling if he does not get spoiled by anything and keep up the hard-work all the time. And a player of his style will always need a pass-first in his team.
