What's new

the ever-changing feelings about Enes Kanter

He started the year pretty well individually, but the team went 1-13, so I think he backed off.

I think this is pretty representative of what he'll do when he's focused...

Wasn't this the game where Brook Lopez abused him? I feel like he didn't miss a shot that game.

Yeah, Lopez abused both Favors and Kanter that game and ended with 27 points. I was at the game. It made me think that ideally neither Favors nor Kanter plays center.

I think he will need right defensive system and coach to be used correctly and hide his weaknesses aka poor man's Boozer/Jefferson. Great offense/terrible defense. No matter his all improvements in last few games he is still almost dead last in all NBA in simple rating.

What strikes me the most is how badly his direct opponents outproduce him which is not surprising if you ever watched him getting abused by anybody he is trying to defend.

He is still by far the weakest link in the core. Updated net on/off

Williams: +5.7
Burke: +5.2
Burks: +2.3
Hayward: +1.7
Evans: +1.6
Favors: -2.6
Jefferson: -5.4
Kanter: -8.7

I obviously hope we can trade him and add a big that co-exist with Favors. Kanter has no place on this teams future other than a tiago splitter type of role without the D but a bit of O.

You can see clearly how weak his body was at the start of the season. Kanter is getting stronger and stronger.

Do you know why Kevin Love is the second best player at this stat ? He is the worst defender I have ever seen. He is not even trying to defend anyone.

If Favors is also that bad at this stat, than I really think its much more about Utah´s nonexistent Team-Defense...

I am a big fan. I think he continues to progress in all areas of his game. I think he will be a valuable starter for this team.

I agree

Somebody's really gotta teach him the defensive stance, positioning, his weaknesses and what he's gotta do.
1-His lateral quickness especially on his left side is one of the worst so he's clever enough to get he's slow, he's trying to give lots of spacing to the opponents to not getting abused and generally it does not end up good result.
2-At the low block, still he makes same mistake by not trying to using his body to prevent opponent's positioning so it 's generally so late for him because of his wingspan etc.
3- On PnR defense i really do not understand why he shows up so high with his slow foot and then try to cover up but never achieves (Corbin's bad defense strategy, look at the Portland defense for PnR not showing up high and San Antonio's and Memphis's press to drive opponent to the baseline instead of comfortable angle)
4- Back-court defense problems: It's so diffucult in the NBA to defend quick, athletic guys coming over you by big fellas without fouling ( Jefferson and Burke is so weak to stop or make opponent slowier)

His offense is get better and better match by match. Better midrange shooting, sharper post up moves, good offensive rebounding numbers and a lil bit dribbling ability

Could we get Dion Waiters for Enes?

Who says Yes?
Who says No?

I say no.

Only way I'd trade Enes is to grab Wiggins. Even then, I'd be pretty sad about it.

I also like the improvements that I'm seeing. Big men take time to groom in the NBA. He's added post moves, a mid range chipper, and improved his floor awareness this season. If he keeps improving he could be a legit starting center. Hell if Memo can make the All-Star team their is no reason Kanter can't with development.

Improvements?

His PER is down. All his shooting percentage numbers are down. All his rebounding numbers are down. His steals and blocked shots are down. His passing has improved and his turnovers are down. Really, that's about it.

You guys just see what you want to see, and rationalize. I think our best hope with Kanter is that all his problems are Corbin's fault... and I think that is a long shot.

But did you see the kind of heart he plays with??

His rebounding has vastly improved this last month. I like that he's finally starting in most of the games. If he and Favors had started together all year he would be doing a lot better.

Waiters for Kanter?
sure!
no need to reflect much upon that actually.
Waiters covers a need and Kanter is replaceable.
