Following potential 2014 draftees

Don't have to worry. Jazz will NOT darft Embiid, no matter where they land. The back troubles are a HUGE red flag. It is definitely an extremely high risk/high reward pick. In a draft this deep, whichever GM misses on a top-10 pick could find himself out of a job. And of all the players, I think Embiid has the biggest chance of being a miss. 1) He's still raw; 2) Will he stay healthy?

Jazz already have Favors and Kanter inside, with a promising defensive prospect in Gobert. If they draft a big, I think it more likely they go with a PF like Vonleh or Randle. If Wiggins and Parker went off the board first and the Jazz had the #3, I think they'd either trade down 1-2 spots or just take Exum.

Jumping to conclusions that NBA doctors will decide that Embiid's back is that serious.

NBAdraft.net has us taking Kyle Anderson with the 5th pick https://nbadraft.net/

Don't worry, he's not. The media wants him to be cause it would make a good story for the Mormon kid to go to Utah.

Lindsey seems serious about building a defense-first team. I'm very confident he likes Wiggins and Embiid better. Maybe Exum too.

A story 99% of the NBA-loving population wouldn't give a **** about.

Chad Ford reported he loved Aaron Gordon.

Guessing this is DL's big board:

1. Wiggins
2. Embiid
3. Gordon
4. Parker (might draft him ahead of Gordon though cuz of pressure)
5. Smart

NBAdraft.net could be run by my mother-in-law and it would be more informed than currently constituted. (to be fair, she's a Timberwolves scout)

So moving on to scenarios...

Jazz draft Wiggins: Wiggins starts at the wing with Hayward, replacing Richard Jefferson. No roster changes needed.

Jazz draft Embiid: Embiid starts at the 5 when he's ready. Favors or Kanter comes off the bench. Gobert gets limited minutes and gets miffed.

Jazz draft Parker: Parker starts at the SF unless he gets roasted on defense, in which case he starts at the PF with Kanter coming off the bench.

Jazz draft Exum: Exum likely starts at SG when he's ready. Hayward moves to the SF. Kanter likely starts at PF.

Jazz draft Randle: Randle starts at PF with Kanter coming off the bench. Kanter is probably a bit pissed. Either Randle or Kanter could eventually get traded.

Jazz draft Gordon: Gordon probably comes off the bench until he learns to shoot a bit.

Jazz draft Smart: Probably Smart backs up both guard positions. If he really should be the starter, then someone probably gets moved.

Parker's position needs to be PF. He's a stretch PF with great footwork in the post. He's too slow to guard NBA sf's (or NCAA mid major sf's, ftm).

Ive been wondering about the aftermath of the Jazz selecting Embiid..

would Favors start next season at C? or does he immediately slide to PF

does Gobert get another year of d-league/garbage minutes

how would Enes and Embiid work?

would the Jazz consider starting Embiid on limited minutes?

with Favors and Kanter playing more PF does that close the door on Marvin?

PF: Favors, Evans, Kanter
C: Embiid, Kanter, Gobert, Favors

is that enough? probably needs a SF that can switch to PF

Addressing parts of this below.

Kanter is more skilled offensively, can play better out on the floor and can pass better than Favors. I think the Jazz would consider moving Favors as well.

Agree with everything but the last sentence.

I disagree completely. NBA teams are not overly concerned about Embiid's back. He's having spasms.. that's all. I can't get into the meat of this issue (sworn to not discuss publicly), but teams know the sitting out of games was ... precautionary (and not against being further hurt).
