Following potential 2014 draftees

he doesn't suck at x and o's. that's a ridiculous generalization. cal is a great coach in collegian level. you can't take 3 different teams to the final four when you suck at coaching.

Great recruiter. Even an average coach with those teams would have more then one title. His dumbass cant even get them to shoot free throws good which is what cost him TWO titles.SMH. Great recruiter but lousy in game coach. Kentucky and him are both slimy and are so deserving of each other.

he isn't the best. but he should be considered top tier. it's a miracle that he got to the championship this year.

He hd like 10 mcds burger boys on his team... The fact they sucked during the season in a two team league(florida and Kentucky) shows his lack of x and o's. Great recruiter but lousy coach when it comes to the x and o's of the game

To defend Cal, kind of, his model of recruiting hurts him more than anything. Too many young dudes and he has never had any real veteran leadership besides maybe Darius Miller.

Calipari gets a lot of players relatively low on skills, b-ball IQ, and experience (in comparison to other elite teams). They'll never overwhelm people with their offensive execution, they get by on their size and athleticism, which is routinely superior to every other team.

agreed. talent is overrated in college level. especially if the talents are bunch of friggin freshmen. you gotta have some juniors maybe even seniors with experience. at the end of the day they were bunch of 18 year old kids.

beat wichita st when it mattered. beat louisville. and beat michigan. what a lousy coach!

Cal is an above average coach but not elite. Best recruiter of all time. = fantastic results, but not legendary.

Cal is an average x's and o's guy i do give him credit though for one thing his teams for the most part play hard and unselfish which is not easy when you have a team full of freshmen with huge egos who were never told no before and have only had their asses kissed and told how great they were where by aau "coaches"..

Im not the biggest Cal fan but i dont get how some people look at him as the evil face of college ball,i hate to break it to you but if you root for a bigtime college program youre school is probably doin the same scummy stuff you hate cal for..all these schools are

His teams have arguably had more talent than every other team in his tenure.

If he was actually an above-average coach (I'll settle that he's average, great recruiter though), then he wouldn't have lost as many games as he had. Quite frankly, all of the above should be expected with the talent that he has brought in.

I'd say: talent =/= production.

So you're saying that's why he shoudn't coach in the NBA?
Or do you think if he can do his LeBron recruiting over there and build a veteran team that is capable of making their own decisions his ability to coach defense will be transcendent?

Just as the moon reached its full eclipse tonight I chanted 3 times "Not being sorry for Jabari" watching the eclipse with my Wife and Daughter. With P Swaggy going off for 41 earlier tonight followed by the eclipse the stars are continuing to align for the Jazz as we take one small step closer to Jabari.

That's tired.

- highest winning % of active coaches
- 2 years removed from national title
- 2 national championship games in 4 years
- 3 final fours in 4 years
- more NCAA wins since arriving at UK than any other coach, by 4 games

Not in the mood for trolls tonight, tho.

Before this season I thought he was just an average coach and probably the best recruiter EVER but I thought John C. did a fantastic job with this young team. You can talk about talent all day but in the end the coach has to get the players (who are use to being the man) to play together as a team. I think Cal gets punished for his coaching abilities because he is such a great recruiter. I think he is still one of the top 5 coaches in the NCAA.

If his kids could have made their FTs he would have had another championship and the Memphis championship was lost on a last second shot. The problem with coaching in the NBA is that it is more about managing personalities since any one in the NBA was most likely a stud coming out of college. So if any coach in college has experience managing talent Cal is the guy. I don't know if he would enjoy being an NBA coach though because I think he loves recruiting. Every one just assumes great college coaches can or want to coach in the NBA. The NBA is just a completely different game even thought it is still basketball.

i still want cleanthony early

Can he play SF in the NBA? I don't know his game too well but in the highlights I've seen it looks like he can. There is going to be some talent at 23 so I would hold onto that pick unless it could be used to get another lottery pick.

With Early it's not only slot 23 , also age 23!

True, but you could say the same for the Jazz for the last few years.

Sent from the JazzFanz app

To a lesser extent yes!
BUT the Suns were deemed to become the first franchise in NBA history to record single digit wins over a 82 game season. Also people on this board made similar prognosis with 15 wins the highest I read...
They eventually becoming a 50 win 9th seed in the West. That's a miracle! The Jazz were expected to be in the middle last year...

he looks like an NBA SF, but hes been playing the stretch 4 (while making a big impact in transition offense).

the hangups with him as a SF are his ball-handling and passing which are below average, and his age

it would be interesting(boom or bust) if he gets drafted in the teens or early 20's and is asked to play a decent chunk of minutes for a bad or mediocre team

imo he be a perfect for a team like OKC. he reminds me of a more polished Wilson Chandler

On a karma sidenote:
IMO the team that most deserves the #1 pick is Phoenix.

I agree but ever since the Magic got Shaq and Penny in back to back years while having the worst odds in the lottery the nba changed it and has made it literally impossible for the best teams who didnt make the playoffs to win the lottery

I think since the changes the team with the lognest odds that won was the bUlls the year they got Rose but they wre only the 9th worst team in the league
