Following potential 2014 draftees

If PKM can post from his Nevada bunker, I'm wondering if he knows if there's a good chance Randle stays for another year? He hasn't declared yet and Calipari is set to meet with him, the Harrisons, Poythress and Johnson this week. If Randle doesn't declare, the tie-breaker we won over Boston might be HUGE! All of a sudden, there's the big-3 (Wiggins, Parker, Embiid), maybe the next two (Exum, Smart) + perhaps Gordon and Vonleh after that before the talent takes another drop. And maybe we're wrong about the prospects of Smart, Gordon or Vonleh. Perhaps after workouts one or more disappoints. Or maybe Embiid DOES have serious medical issues with his back. If a couple of teams jump ahead of us in the lottery, the difference in picking just one slot higher than Boston could be very meaningful.

PKM had said Randle will definitely declare.

PKM had spoken.

Listening to the DL press conference about Ty. DL just said "I don't know if bringing in three new players to this young roster is the smart thing". I wouldn't be surprised if our pick at #23 is packaged for a vet.

Or combine the picks and move up into the teens.

Perhaps Lindsey was working on a deal at the deadline, but didn't want to pull the trigger either a) because it would have made the team better (and hurt our draft position), or b) because he needed to make sure the GS pick wouldn't fall into the lottery. Any team wanting to trade a veteran would want an immediate 1st-rounder out of this draft. And the #35 pick is "close enough" to the 1st round to be valued nearly as high.

In no way am I against getting Harkless, just don't see him as a target for Utah, or do I see Magic really wanting to trade him.

for what reason(s)?

Young player, position of need, has a skill set that we can use.....

Because the whole point of trading picks away for players would be to add a veteran talent, or so it seems.

I don't put too much stock into what he says on 1280.

Fair enough.

I don't see why Orlando does it either. I'm not as high on Harkless as y'all appear to be, but it would be weird for Orlando to trade him away for the 23rd pick. He was a the 15th overall pick when he was selected and he looks to be a good rotation player. Seems like it would be a bad return on an investment.

I think it could depend on whom they draft. #23 and a second-round pick is a good move if there's a logjam. Plus, there's the financial incentives for such a move.

to whom?

If Harkless can be had for #23, then you do it.

Can we get Mo (I mean more) out of a player that will be there at #23. Harkless was taken at #15; this draft is supposedly deeper. Or maybe someone is willing to take the #23 and #35 for a pick in the teens.

Don't do it.

Didn't say you should do it. But let me phrase it like this:
I'd rather have Deng for 3 years $40M than Ariza for 3 years $20M. Because Deng would affect that locker and lead the group. Ariza will probably show them that it's all about the contract year...

The Mo Harkless talk interests me. I'd probably trade a 23rd pick for him.

I agree!

DL mentioned that after giving Hayward a substantial raise, Jazz still have a MAX slot available if they were to find a player and he accepted. I think that was in his radio interview. I doubt that player would be Deng. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see him as that big of an impact player. Lindsey also mentioned teams needing to clear salaries and the great financial position the Jazz are in. I think it's more likely the Jazz use some of their assets to acquire a good player that a team just can't afford (like Houston did with Harden). The FA market, even on the restricted side, isn't very strong. Which is actually bad in our case...teams with $ to spend may pursue Hayward just because he'll be one of the top FA's available.

Tell me which teams can't afford certain players. I'm not aware of those right now somehow.

I would love to sign deng.

draft Jabari

resign Hayward to about 10 mil per

gives us 1 more year to see how burks and kanter fit

Burke, Neto, fredette
Hayward, burks
deng, Parker
kanter, Evans
favors, Gobert

Jabari getting all the back up minutes at the 3 and the 4.

If you think your top 3 pick can be a superstar you don't give him backup minutes, you give him starter minutes.

P.S. you think Parker will play the 4? Some sort of "stretch" 4 thing?
