As luck would have it. We have a perfect example coaching right here in Utah. And he was a Jazz player. And a Ute. If you don't know who i mean, you are a long way from Salt Lake or actually not a basketball fan or under the age of 15. Hint: is initials are J.J. Almost surprising that his name has not even come up.

Did you hear the funny story about J.J. starting his new coaching gig with the girls? He showed them how to set a pick, but the girls weren't doing it right, he got after them and demanded they do it as he showed them - feet wide and hands down in front. In a week or so of practice he noticed two things, first the girls were frequently setting picks wrong with their hands up, something he had to constantly stop and correct, and two the girls were quickly getting angry and distant from him. Finally an assistant or a brave player approached him and said, coach, the reason boys set screens with their hands down is to protect their parts, girls set screens with their hands up to protect theirs. It's not illegal in the women's game to keep the hands high, the reason the girls are mad at you is because they are quite sore from playing the way you are demanding.
This has nothing to do with Jazz, but the jazz won't leak a name other than Rodney Dangerfield Boylen or even a few items from the rumored list of criteria so we gotta make our own fun. Happy Mother's Day.

Things aren't going very well for CSKA and Messina these days. They lost first two games to Lokomotiv Kuban at home in quarter finals of VTB League, so they have to win the third game to continue. Messina is once again emphasizing that for some reason he couldn't establish the team consistency and reliability during his last stint with CSKA. I like his self-image.
However this might actually be good news for the Jazz fans since if they can turn the series and continue at VTB League, their playoffs can prolong until the 17th of June. However if Kuban wins the third game, which will be played on 22 May, Ettore Messina will be officially and completely free. Because by that time Euroleage Final Four will also be already played(it's May 16/18).

Haha. Even I know that one. I started to teach my 8-9 yr. old girls to set picks and told them to cross their arms in front of their chests. One of them asked why I did it differently. A few giggles later and the principle was learned.

That's what's so crazy about Euro ball...you can have, to use a common phrase, "two balls in the air at the same time." So CSKA could conceivably be crowned Euro champs while not even being the top team in their own league. Weird.

I`m actually not sure how EuroBball works, but in soccer, you qualify for the Champions League based on your position on your home league the previous season. In addition, most major leagues also have 2 domestic single elimination game cup competitions, meaning that you could win 4 major titles in one season; 3 at home and 1 European. There is also a world club championship, but that has not gained that much traction yet.
Yep, exactly. That happens so many times. Probably because of the different goals of the teams and the different concentration levels. Top teams focus on Euroleague very much and the chances they wear out or can't focus on the domestic competition are more. Other teams or the teams that got eliminated from the Euroleague in the earlier stages can give much more effort to the domestic leagues.
By the way, most of the Euro teams play also for the domestic cups, the tier structure is generally like this; (from most important to least important) Euroleague/Eurocup/EuroChallenge, Domestic Leagues, Domestic Cups.
Yeah, it's kinda similar to soccer. But overall, Euroball structure is a big mess. Tournament formats aren't ideal and there are some unfair exercises in gaining a Euroleague ticket. Some teams have A licenses and even when they can't get in top positions in their domestic league they can go to Euroleague over the teams that finished the previous season above them. And soccer always continues to hurt basketball, especially considering the economical problems in Europe.

So how do the playoffs work in European ball. I know he made the Final Four so wouldn't they be in the semi-finals? Is the VTB league and Euroleage different leagues. I am confused?
Euroleague is the tournament that the only best teams from each domestic leagues participate. Euroleague Final Four has the death match system. Four teams left, no series will be played, four games will be played totally. It's CSKA vs Macabi and Madrid vs Barcelona on Friday and on Sunday it will be, loser vs loser and winner vs winner. The final winner takes it all.
Similar to the Euroleage, there is Eurocup league which one level lower and features the best teams that couldn't qualify to the Euroleague from every domestic leagues. And again similarly, there is EuroChallenge Cup that is the third tier of the inter-european competition. It includes the best teams that couldn't qualify for neither Euroleague or Eurocup.
Domestic leagues are well obviously domestic. Like Spanish league(aka ACB), Greek league, Turkish league etc.
VTB League was once a united league for some Eastern Europe countries but now is integrated with Russian domestic league so it is now the domestic league of Russia.

^^^^. I like the loser versus loser game. I wish the nba would play some loser games during the conferee finals and nba finals. The break between games is excruciating.
I was thinking about possible reasons why the jazz would be waiting to hire a new coach.
Many others have mentioned that the coach is still coaching (Messina, Boylen)
Some have suggested the Jazz have to wait for LAL and NYK to hire before they get a chance.
I guess they are both plausible.
Randy Rigby and Dennis Lindsey have mentioned another possibility. Recently of on 1280 they both have said they are working as an organization to redefine roles and responsibilities of the head coach and others. This makes a lot of sense to me. When an organization has a powerful person like Jerry in place for a long time the organization shapes itself around him. Ty Corbin never had a chance, because the Jazz never had a chance to reorganize to live without Jerry and maybe even Larry.
I would like to propose another theory. Perhaps the Jazz are waiting until after they make their offseason moves, because they are going to remake the roster. That means trading away players that maybe were young and have potential, and maybe even players the fans and teammates like. The jazz want to wait so that Lindsey gets to make the decisions and gets to live with the credit or blame, leaving the new coach free to start with a clean slate. This would suggest to me the moves won't be painless and the new coach is not an experienced man, who needs protection.

AS to the first theory, I think the Jazz are well into the era when the GM/coach roles are completely separate. I doubt Ty ever had an ounce of power...input, yes, but certainly not the final authority on personnel matters. And the Jazz are even further past the death of Larry H. That said, they have had several people move on/retire, so it could be a re-org of the entire Miller sports division.
I think you might be on to something with your last theory. Dennis WON the rebuild argument. He WON the battle to let Ty go. He has a VISION and a plan. He likely wants to carry it out to the finish so he can be judged accordingly. The less interference, the better. However, I doubt Lindsey wants to wait until the actual draft. It's important to have the new staff be in place for summer league. I think he's just waiting for the playoffs to end so he can interview current assistants. Unfortunately, unless that means EuroLeague, all indications point to Boylen.
Again, I'll say this, if Boylen is able to help this Spurs team with a Championship with the cast that they have, ageing stars, etc, I think he is worth a look.
