What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

And just how much is Boylen's doing?
SA has been at the top for a long, long time. It's not like Boylen walked in to right a ship that had been listing. Pop could probably have me as one of his assistants with little or no drop in team performance.

If he could have done that, then why did Pop have Budenholzer as his right hand man for like the last 8 seasons?

My point is, even with losing Budenholzer to the Hawks, the Spurs didn't seem to have missed a beat.

And did Budenholzer do a miracle job with the Hawks? Not really. An ok job, but still a losing record. But he won championships as Pops assistant; therefore he's automatically a great coach, same as Boylen since the Spurs are doing so well this season. Look, you can be a great assistant and not be a good head coach. Boylen had one great season at Utah, one decent one and two bad ones. He was either a poor coach or a poor recruiter.

By all accounts Budenholzer did a much better job than most expected. I mean, who is the Hawks' best player?

*crickets*

Also it seems to me his demeanour and temperaments is better suited in the NBA than in college.

Or both

Paul millsap. So by your reckoning, Tyrone is a better coach than coach bus. Tyrone at least won more games in a more competitive conference with millsap

We had big al also....

kkKKKkkkKKKKkkKKKKKkKKKkkkkkKKkkkkkkkkKKKkkkkkk

And they had al horford for half the season.

I remain unconvinced that coach bud is that much better than Tyrone. He could be though. But I think Tyrone will get a chance to be a head coach again in a few years, and do better than he did here.

Jazz get a coach yet?

Interview anyone?

Any names connected with coaching and the Jazz?

Sigh.

Edit to add some rumors....

David 'Dubi' Pick @IAmDPick
CSKA Moscow, I'm reading online, have offered David Blatt a two-year deal worth $3M. Coach's camp avoid comment.

Dardalis @Eurohoopsnet
Coach Blatt can opt out of his contract with @MaccabiElectra and sign elsewhere, but is just too early for decisions eurohoops.net/?p=48382

Emiliano Carchia @sportando
Warriors and Stan Van Gundy are moving towards a deal sportando.com/en/usa/nba/

Chris Mannix @ChrisMannixSI
Talks intensifying between Warriors and Stan Van Gundy, per sources. Van Gundy now Golden State's clear top choice. Moving towards a deal.

I wish we could take David Blatt....he is the real deal!

The Jazz seem too passive with their coaching search...there are too many free benches and their wait-and-see strategy could turn out to be counterproductive!

I think they are just bidding their time and are going ot go hard after 1-2 people (Messina then Boylen) that are unavailable at this time.

Jazz, following the same strategy they use with their own players, are letting coaches shop the market and establish their value before offering a contract. Expect Ty Corbin to return as HC at minimum wage.

Sounds like Stan Van to GSW is down to negotiating a contract.

I read Kerr to Knicks is held up over fifth year guaranteed vs 4 years guaranteed.

Meanwhile in Jazz land Randy Rigby is still googling "good basketball coaches" and reading the Wikipedia entry for Pat Summit.

That strategy could work with players but not with coaches. I hope they have learned their lesson after Corbin.

There are different good coaches available....they have to stay ahead of the game! But please no Boylen!

The only thing that scares me about the SVG thing is that I thought he might stay available until the Laker's gig cleared up. Either that job is not as desirable as we all thought, or they actually have a short list that didn't include SVG. That would mean they have an idea who they want, which would be very un-Buss like. I don't like that feeling at all.
The Kerr thing is interesting too as he was using the Warriors as leverage against the Knicks. If he is still dragging is feet, who is the other team he is flirting with (Please be Lakers, please be Lakers!) I can see Buss going after Kerr just to spite Jackson. That would be epic!
Also no rumors of Boylen going anywhere else. At least with Corbin, there were rumors of other teams eyeing him before he took over. Zip on Boylen. It's not going to be Boylen.

Per Adrian Woj and others, the deal between Stan Van Gundy and the Warriors is suddenly off the table. Van Gundy wanted full control of bball operations, the Warriors said not.

Which means Utah, which had 0 chance of getting him before, now has less than zero. Sounds like SVG really doesn't want to coach. Letting a coach also be the GM is not a good idea. No one is going to give him fool control of bball operations (see what I did there?).

Detroit offered him that arrangement, which is why he asked for it from GS. And now he's deliberating
