You argue everything no matter how obvious it is. My bad for placing too much emphasis on "I was so mad I had to leave work", "I swear it was related to Obama", and the rest of the post which aired your frustration with Obama's sellout, and little weighting to "Admittedly I had a fever this morning". The joke isn't funny when it has to be explained, but here you have it:

It's a little easy to add 2+2 after you went off like that and also admitted that you only listen to NPR. NPR is said to be full of political discussion. You get your ideas from or have them affirmed by NPR. You call NPR a cesspool of sanity, or whatever. See the irony, and thus the joke?

I have no clue, which is why I'm interested in a reputable opinion. I don't listen to NPR, so I have no opinion of their political bent. I don't know if they have a political bent. I have an idea of your ideology, which is consistently strictly far left with special emphasis on patronizing "the poor" as if you're some kind of overlord called on a special mission to protect those underneath you. If you enjoy the programming enough to listen to nothing else then my bet is the political bent is closer to your's than Rush Limbaugh's. Again, I'm interested in thoughts from rounded personalities who appreciate and can explain the intricacies of both sides of issues.

If you must derail... Yes, I'm aware of you entering defense mode after the fact. Someone called you on something yet again, and yet again you became defensive, abandoned your story, and added insulation as fast as you could. By the way, you're a great punter but you could learn a lesson or two from Mr. Archie Moses about ensuring enough ambiguous protection that you're never wrong, regardless.

Similarly I have an idea of your ideology, which is consistently strictly on the side of those who believe that all individuals create their own destiny entirely irrespective of the situations life placed them in prior to their birth or the decisions of those around them and that thus all failures are evidence of moral weakness. Since you regard yourself as such a success, while providing no evidence of such, this is obviously self-serving to the extent that it projects moral strength upon your self.

I have an ipod dock in my car. Why would I listen to any music stations?

Part of the reason NPR is the only radio station I listen to is because radio, as a medium, has very little value to me at this point.

NPR on the other hand provides a fair number of podcasts (I subscribe to "Story of the Day" "Culturetopia" and "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me") and has good drive-time segments for me ("Marketplace" is usually airing in my area when I leave work while "Talk of the Nation" or "Fresh Air" are usually on when I'm going out to get lunch.) That there's basically no commercials reduces my level of aggravation and enhances the amount of time I can listen to something without switching back to my iPod.

I'm thus able to location and space shift some of their programming and format and scheduling work for me for others.

One doesn't exactly have to be on the left to be closer to me than Rush Limbaugh is. It could be 24/7 Bob Dole station and it would be closer to my views than Limbaugh. That hardly makes it liberal by default unless we define liberal as "anything to the left of Limbaugh." Sadly, that's pretty much how a lot of people seem to define it these days.
 
So are you really saying you weren't completely upset at Obama caving in to republicans with a majority senate and house that could get a bill passed if they wanted to? Honestly, did I really misunderstand you that much?

Sounds a little Hindu for me. You've got me entirely wrong, but I suspect you're being more facetious than serious. Your mis-characterization of me is not surprising as it's hard to get into any substantive discussion on here without somebody getting upset, insulted, or ignoring nuances. There's not a whole lot to decide from so most ideas are truncated.

I agree entirely with the last sentence. I only meant Limbaugh is far right and if you're far left then NPR is more likely to be left of center.

I don't see why you'd expect me to take your opinion of NPR as anything but leftist biased. I don't think you'd expect me to take a far-right opinion as anything else either.

I guess it comes down to this: Many of the reasons I like NPR comes down to format and tone rather than any sort of opinion content. NPR doesn't have an equivalent to Rush, Hannity, or any of the former Air America folks. I think it would be difficult to find a more strictly objective source.

Not true. You've openly said you're a progressive liberal and your stick is a constant patronizing of "the poor". I don't see that I've missed anything or been too presumptive. If you think I'm under the wrong impression then feel free to explain. I might think otherwise if I've read a single argument from you that even hints at sympathizing with another POV.
 
speaking of radio, does anybody else ever wish there was a DVR-type feature on a radio? that way, when you miss the key piece of information given at the beginning of the story, before you're really paying attention, you could rewind and replay it.


edit: well, I guess downloading stuff to an MP3 might be one solution, at least for that which is available to download.

Oh man, I was up late a lot listening to Loveline back in high school. Then my local radio station didn't renew their contract with them at the end of 2003. From what I understand, he does a podcast now. Loveline was the best though, and I personally think Carolla is the funniest mother ****er alive. GOOD TIMES.

I listen to Hannity on the way home from work, Rush when I'm off, sometimes Imus/Levin on my anti-Obama station, but I don't have a long commute.

well, back to the topic. . . . .

I've actually spent a few years of my life listening to NPR, and at the time I thought it was pretty good. I mean, I knew it was pretty much an elitist download for the elitist wannabes but I thought it did represent some pretty good thinking. I can see why some will go there for their ideas, and why others may go there to find support for what they do think. . . . but it was well done for a government product.

And in my defense, I was working for a prof who used a pipe, feeling my way through the smoke. . . . .using reagents like thioethanol that made the smoke seem the least of concerns. . . . . it's a close cousin to skunkoil you know. . . . and it all did eventually just make me sick.

I decided even cows smell better, "all things considered".

Well, you might find that there are indeed better babes to talk to. The ones with 1-900- numbers probably really are NOT cute, or smart. I prefer babes with the ability to discuss politics, or even sports.

Meanwhile, I hope you can repair your standing with the Mod, perhaps by taking a few good suggestions?????

They gave him a permanent ban...I hate bannanations...with few exceptions.
 
I don't know any of the people or shows you fanz mentioned, but I think it is good to have such a variety of viewpoints within the forum.

yeah, well, you and I both know there needs to be some kind of reasoned moderating. I checked around this site a bit and was actually surprized at the content. I didn't really expect to find some well-formulated opinions in here except on the Jazz subject, but this looks like one of the best all-around forums I've seen.

I like to see all the basic points of view represented by someone, and some outliers nobody could believe could ever exist except in a free country.

I think there have been some problems in here that actually need a serious Moderator to take a stand on. If it's consistently enforced it's gonna make an even better forum. Can you imagine NOT having a team of trolls just piling in on every thread with repeated diversions to shut it down??? No personal attacks??? No institutional programmed propaganda attempts to dominate the folks with real opinions????

Freedom of Speech is what has revived radio. I believe it can make a forum like this a popular public resource. With just a few rules to keep it civil.

BTW, I used to be a regular listener on Loveline, and expecially was impressed with how fast he could pick up on someone who was in an abusive relationship, and he could actually talk those callers through their issues and make some good sense all the way.

I do have to agree on the "reasoned moderating." I suppose if there is more than one and they aren't all chicks then there is chance it could happen. I too was a little surprized on the well-formulated opinion, although in general Jazz fanz have always been intelligent if somewhat crazed.

Hopper didn't seem like a propagandist and he gave others a chance to speak. His thread about NPR firing Juan was an example of his desire to have reasoned discussions. I guess he was just too much in other areas? Or there was some kind of clash going on I don't know about.

Radio is a great forum for your average Joe to get involved in public discussion and a great avenue for helping people...like that financial guy who helps people get out of debt, and Dr. Laura who helps people deal with moral issues, and Loveline to help people with relationship issues.

BTW the humor on here cracks me up.
 
I listen to DJ and PK, Jim Rome, Dan Patrick, Bill and Spence, Alema and Scotty G (Powerhouse), Tony Bruno, Mike and Mike in the Morning (only sometimes), The Scott Van Pelt Show, and a few more as well. I used to listen to the Radio from Hell Show, but they became annoying hacks so I dropped them for DJ and PK. I know, right?

Sounds like typical boosterism around here. Do you listen to the very partisan KSL gametime announcers covering BYU, or the equally partisan play by play on the Ute radio 700?

How about the morning program on KTKK with the former Utahn what'shisname doing the program from Minnesota or somewhere, and talking like he's a homer. He said everyone knows the air here is chlorine because you can see it's yellow color from the Bountiful bench. . . .
