What's new

A trade is brewing...

Let's all just settle down a little, Trey was a 1st year pg playing major minutes under a coach that didn't exactly have the best defensive structures (or any idea at all) set up and a team of other young guys who needed leadership, the vets were past it (Jefferson), not up to it (JL3 & Beans) or broken / out of position (Marvin), so how about we give him a chance to show us what he can do with some decent team chemistry and a coach that has some sort of idea before writing him off?

That's great. We should use that as we are talking to other teams trying to trade Trey at high value.

Thanks!

I guess I'm the only one who likes our core still.

Only way I'm trading Favors is for a top 4 pick. Dude is 22, athletically-gifted, not injury prone, and he's improved every year. Package him with Burke and another 1st rounder? Ridiculous.

I love our core still, and think we'll be just fine with our own picks in this draft. I personally wouldn't do the scenario I illustrated. I was just pointing out what we'd likely have to give up to pry a top 10 pick from a team like LA in this years draft. Just because a team might be willing to trade their pick, doesn't mean ****. Is it worth selling the farm for?

Just a scenario, would we take a huge salary if that was the asking price for a top-10 pick? Say an average-below average player with a salary of 2-years worth 22-23 mil is offered with a top-10 pick in exchange for our #23, would you do it?

Define clearly better.

I'll start with the super obvious clearly better players. LeBron, Durantula, Wall, Irving, Howard, Davis... etc... and move on to any proven NBA point guard that can also play defense. I suppose in my definition of clearly better it would be someone that has some offense, can run the point, can play defense, and has the will to hit big shots late in the game. I'm good with Burke on all but the defense, but I still think he can learn it. If Stockton can learn it and be tough on D, then anyone can... not to downplay Stock but it has more to do with will than athletic ability even if you have to have some. I see some grit and desire out of Burke, I think it can be applied to D given the right motivation and coaching.

Yes.

I've been saying for weeks that the Jazz should look to trade there above average pieces for a stud. I strongly disagree with the value a lot of the posts are presenting here.
I'd think the Jazz may be targeting players like Asik. Rondo. Love. Westbrook if the Thunder lose in the conference finals. Unless the Jazz land a top 3 pick I suspect the Jazz move the pick. Also Deron Williams will NEVER EVER be a Jazz player again.

Once again, we all fall prey to the lure of the draft. Even in last years weak draft there were proposals to give up guys like Favors and Kanter for a shot at a draft pick. This year it's even worse.

We all want to give up pieces from a solid core that the Jazz have been building in the hopes that someone in the draft will be a star. Even in this draft, when that is actually possible, giving up the core players is rarely worth the risk. Give up spare parts, Add where you can, but don't trade Favors, Burke, Hayward, etc. for fools gold.

I know there are some who are willing to trade solid players for draft picks, but unless you get really lucky, it is almost always a mistake.

Can we trade him?

Absolutely. Even if it is not this year. If we can get a top ten pick or an unprotected pick for that, you have to take it.

As far as the thread topic goes...

Yeah, I think we'll be very active on draft night. I'd bet against this team adding three rookies to the roster.

Could that explain Kanter's defense?

You could see that Kanter was making mistakes on defense, though I feel with a better coach he could be sufficient at good team defense. There were to many times that he became the scapegoat for loses too.

Fair enough.

WE have depth, but not stars. It's a lot to give up, obviously taking a swing for the fences.

Embiid
Vonleh
Hayward
Burks
FA PG (or trade)/Neto
(I would try to trade Kanter for a PG + other assets).

Alternately, draft Exum, Wiggins or Parker depending on where the pick falls. And then there are different trade scenarios to fill the hole the Jazz would have at one position.

I just don't see Favors as an all-star PF/C or Burke as anything but a mid-tier PG.
Strangely, I agree. NONE of our players right now scream STAR!! alot of them scream PRETTY DAMN GOOD...we need a couple more than pretty damn good. Swing for the fences as he said. Obviously dont get rid of everyone, but neither Favors nor Trey are honestly all that special. We, as Jazzfanz, like them and see potential. But I think it isnt in the cards for either of them to be more than above average usually, great sometimes. We HAVE to have more than that.
