Following potential 2014 draftees

With Embiid, Parker and Wiggins no-showing, there were the inevitable rumors about hiding something—Embiid’s back injury, Parker’s conditioning level and, according to some (hello), Wiggins’ entire game.

Behind the scenes, it was no mystery. This was about staying out of Milwaukee, with the Bucks holding the best chance of drawing the No. 1 pick, a long way from Gotham, South Beach or LaLaLand.

“What the Clippers used to be, that’s what the Bucks are now,” said an NBA GM. “The place every agent says, ‘I don’t want my player there.’”

i wouldn't want to play for bucks either.

Only a year removed from the playoffs. On paper, I liked some of their off-season moves. Obviously the season got shot to hell by everything that happened with Sanders.

It wouldn't have mattered if the Spurs were holding the top pick and also playing in the WC Finals. The top players aren't going to the combine because their agents have told them not to go. There is ZERO to be gained. They'll still do individual workouts. The only thing that would be telling is if Wiggins or Parker refused to go to Milwaukee for a workout. That would be Kobe-esque; then there would be something to talk about. As for Embiid, it's likely he'll do interviews only. He's not going to workout for any teams before the draft.

I'm back to thinking that embiid will be the #1 pick. He's legit 7 footer with his basement looking like ibaka. I think the back stuff is mostly a smoke screen.

I think a core of Embiid, Favors, Hayward and Burks could be very, very good. Add an uptempo PG...wow.

But dat back, doe!
(Did I do that right?).

I keep hopping on and off the Embiid train. It would be a swing for the fences. But yes, having Embiid (and Gobert) plugging up the middle would be nice. Just need Favors to develop a bit more offensively, which I think is possible. Top-4, that's really all we need. You can make a case for any of those guys. Realistically, I think getting the #4 pick is highly unlikely. We either move up, or drop to #5.

The one thing about Embiid (over Parker) is that he'll develop more slowly. So Jazz likely get a decent lottery pick next season (maybe still top 10).

I just read backdoor. And I hope I won't penetrate an ally with my following statement!

But(t) I think Embiid will improve way faster than Parker who in contrast has a higher skill level already and will have a better impact from day one.

If level 10 is top 50 player of all time (LeBron, Jordan, Shaq), level 9 is 10+ All Star (Pierce, Garnett, Malone), level 8 is 5-7 time All Star, level 7 is 3-5 time All Star, level 6 is 1-3 time all star, level 5 is borderline all star, possible 1 time All star (Millsap).

I think Parker's ceiling is level 9 and comes into the NBA at a level 8.
Wiggins ceiling is 10 comes in at a level 5.
I'd put Embiid's ceiling at level at 10 comes in at level 5.

Parker is the safe bet, but you probably need one other piece to win titles. Embiid and Wiggins are bigger risks, but if they pan out, they can win you a title single handily.

Rep-Bet:
Parker won't be AllStar in his rookie year, which is basically what you're claiming.

That's kind of what I meant. Parker comes in ready to play and score. That makes Utah a better team from Day 1. Embiid is more raw, he improves fast, but not as much impact from Day 1. Therefore Jazz finish with a worse record and get a better pick in 2015.

If he is in the east, he will be. If he is in the West, maybe not.

I'll take that bet.

Also, I'll say that Parker is ROY.

Nobody can win a title single-handily. Jordan needed Pippin. Shaq needed Kobe. Lebron needed Wade.

I heard Sixers CEO O'Neal on Philly talk radio. He said that the Sixers top 3 is the same as the consensus. Sorry, no Randle

Chunky, non-defense, Parker is a guaranteed 5-7 time all-star.

Defense hasn't kept most All-Stars from being All-Stars.

Parker will be an All-Star at least 5 times. If he goes to a big market (Philly, LA, Boston) he will be an All Star at least 10 times.

If there is one thing we've learned over the years is that NBA front office types always tell the truth leading up to the draft.
