What's new

Rusillo, three scouts, and Embiid, Parker, Wiggins and Randle

Argh. Ok. Whatever.

So, you don't think if Jabari had played on Kansas with Embiid, he shooting percentages wouldn't be higher?

Who is the embiid on mcdermotts team that made him such a great shooter?

Who was the dominant star player taking focus from jimmer to make him a great shooter.

What sjf is saying is that if mcdermott or jimmer played for duke then chances are they would still be great shooters and if jabari played for kansas then he would still be a below average to average shooter

I don't know the answer to that question. Nobody does. Does this mean we have to make the same excuse for other draft prospects? If Marcus Smart had played with Joel Embiid, we wouldn't even be discussing his shot - his percentages would have been awesome! Of course not, we can't do that. We have to evaluate them on what actually happened. Nobody is making excuses for Randle - the fact that he was constantly doubled - they aren't because he still got the job done. We don't make excuses for guys who produce. We do criticize guys like Smart who don't shoot the ball well despite the fact that he had no big man. For some reason, and you're not alone, Jabari is above criticism where it is deserved.

Alot of truth here

I know you like Parker a lot, FOJ, so I appreciate your ability to be objective on this issue.

Ya i would LOVE to get parker and i think his shot will likely improve but he was not a great shooter at duke.
He was not a poor shooter but i think the perception is that he was/is a knockdown shooter from 3. I dont think he is there yet.

I do believe he will work on his shot and get there though.

I always say that i think he has a shot to be the best stretch four (other than maybe dirk) that we have ever seen, so i obviously believe his shot will get there. (It better or he will never be the guy alot of us think he can be)

Parker might not have had a big man, but he was on a team full of very good 3pt shooters and was a match-up problem because he was also the biggest man on the court for Duke most of the time.

Could Wiggins/Smart/Whoever gotten to the rim and scored more in Duke's spread offense?

Lebron and Melo could be considered stretch 4's for the last few years, also Bosh and K-Love. All way better than Parker will ever be.

I think of lebron and melo as straight up small forwards. (Though lebron plays alot of 4, i dont consider him a stretch 4)

I think parker will be much better than bosh. And i think he will be better than love too

Back to my original point. I'm not even saying Wiggins is a better shooter than Parker, but to hear some people talk, it's as if we're talking about he difference between Kyle Korver and Andre Drummond. The numbers over the course of the season say they are very close. The numbers in conference play say Wiggins is better. There might be an argument that Wiggins is a bit better shooter. Perhaps that they are basically the same. Perhaps that Parker is a bit better. But to pretend Parker is this lights out shooter while Wiggins is a bricklayer is just silly.

FWIW, here are the numbers. In Big 12 play, Wiggins shot 37% 3pt. Parker shot 30% from three in ACC play. Marcus Smart, worst shooter in NCAA history, was 28% in league play.

Also, imo big 12 > ACC

And i still think jabari is the better shooter.

But i have ALWAYS been fine with wiggins outside shot.

And Burks will be better than Dwayne Wade one day.

with 6ft 8 barefoot vonleh. not a good angle.

bottom line - embiid is an impressive specifimen. 6ft 11 ish, 7ft 5+ wingspan, and only getting better. only concern is his health.

McDermott looks Vonleh's height here, I'm not sure they measured Doug's height accurately at the combine.

i did mention this has a bad angle. when you compare bad angled pictures, you don't look at the picture as whole. where and how they are standing, where is the camera focusing on, is floor leveled, how's the posture, etc, etc - these are all important element when you look at bad angled pictures. vonleh and embiid are standing pretty close to each other, and i see about 3 inch difference between them from this pic. 6ft 8 for vonleh, 6ft 11 for embiid. sounds about right to me.
