Following potential 2014 draftees

Here is someone else's view on how the draft will go:

That is the worse mock I've seen yet. I saw the first trade Jazz #4 and thought - ok until I read his reasoning. The Jazz are NOT PF starved. The Trades after that got worse, ending with the worse one with Utah trading Gordon Hayward. I guess the writer didn't know you can't trade free agents.

For me that was the least exciting/impressive of the ones so far (parker, embiid, gordon)

He doesnt look that quick (side to side) imo and his release on his jumper looks a little slow.

He does look big, powerful, and explosive though

I think his release looks slow because he often brings the ball down too low (which is also a big reason his % from 3 isn't good).

I think it was less exciting too, but that's largely cause it was almost nothing but jump shots. There was more variety of skills on display in the others' workout vids.

on Vonleh

"He can shoot the ball out way past the arc. For a stretch four, that's what you want," said Ryan Blake, senior director of NBA scouting operations. "He reminds me of Chris Bosh not only because of his inside-outside versatility, but because of his instincts on the defensive end … that kind of long forward, good motor, can be a warrior in the paint, excellent rebounder, solid ballhandler with an excellent perimeter game."

Here's the deal with Smart's release. It is slow, but it's a high release, and he elevates well on it. He can get his shot whenever he wants. The only concern with Smart's shot is accuracy.

Me saying his release is slow is nitpicking. Its not that bad really.

The glaring red flag from his workout was his lack of quickness or moving decisively or with purpose.

Watch the jabari vid and then the smart vid one after the other.
Jabari appears ALOT quicker and more decisive with his cuts and stops and starts..... despite jabari being alot bigger.

It does seem like jabari is trying alot harder in his vid than smart though... almost seems like smart is just being casual and going through the motions. Which may be another red flag in itself.

Or like cy says, they are just work outs in empty gyms and mean nothing at all.

This one f'ed up draft. Three sure fire superstars...that could bust big time. Lots of solid players that will start for a long time...the Jazz in need of a superstar and they might be one spot out of reach....

Cleveland might trade their pick, Philly might trade the rookie of the year, the greatest player ever to have never accomplished anything is on the block, the Lakers might not have a single player under contract who is healthy...

What a cf.

It's closer to this.

Even if Smart was just "going through the motions" like you said, that's obviously not the way he is in game. There are things to not like about Smart, but hustle/heart/giving it your all ain't one of em.

The Jazz have all these "assets" that we all live but really actually kind of suck and our best "chip", we can't even use because he is a free agent...

Craziness. Has there ever been so much uncertainty around this team?

Our starters last year were Burke, Hayward, Marvin, Jefferson, Favors.

There is a good shot that only one of those may be around or starting for us next year.

This is the right answer. We like watching them because we're starved for basketball, but they are worthless as it pertains to fans.

Did his quickness (side to side, cuts, stop and go) look a little slow to you guys when compared to jabaris vid though.

I mean even if these workouts are worthless, we still might as well discuss then right? Not much else going on

Agree on Vonleh needing more badass in his game.

It's a big quality that guys need to have. I read a scouting report on Wiggins the other day saying there was no "**** you" to his game. It's a fair criticism.

I can see why you say that, but I've seen him so much and am confident it's not an issue. But yeah, since it's all we have right now, I'll give it to you.

Of course smart is not going to impress as much as those other guys in an empty gym. Their physical advantages are best on display when wide open and leaping gracefully, his is about power and beating people with strength, hard to look strong when your posting up air.

Just watched the DX interview with Zach LaVine, his favorite artist is Chief Keef. Reaffirms my suspicions that he will probably bust.
