What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

I don't think he ever needed vindication. He was fired after a 50 win season because the management thought they should have gone farther. It's a little similar to Mark Jackson, although there weren't problems with assistant coaches and others in the organization, IIRC.

I don't think they fired him necessarily because they think they should've gone farther. I think they fired him because he didn't give credence to advanced metrics. I also think that coaches generally have input on roster construction, and the Grizzlies roster has been dog-**** as far as spacing is concerned for forever. Which is costly when your bread and butter is playing in the post.

By the way, Grizzlies management is vindicated in that they took a complete gamble on some guy and he ended up being as good as Hollins at worst. And that Rudy Gay has made every team he's played for worse.

They won't be vindicated until they make it beyond the second round again - or even to the second round. Sure, they gave the Thunder a great series, but they missed their win total from last year by six games and still got bumped in the first round (after making the WCF last year), so...

Good post.

Unfortunately Messina and CSKA will be continuing at VTB League. CSKA won the 5th game(84-65) against Lokomotiv Kuban so they are in now F4. Their new opponent is Unics Kazan. It will be a series over three wins once again and there is a good chance for it to go the 5th game again, considering UNICS is a tough opponent. The good thing is, the games are not too sporadic.

The schedule for the series:

05/29/2014
05/30/2014
06/02/2014
06/03/2014 (if necessary)
06/06/2014 (if necessary)

CSKA wins the first game of the semi finals in overtime.

CSKA: 92
UNICS: 90

If Messina is still coaching it makes sense the Jazz are interviewing these small fry assistants just for kicks and keep up fans' interest.

Unfortunately, the same could be said for Boylen.

Sheridan Hoops said that Boylen was probably the top/hottest assistant coach this summer. They said that out of all the assistants, he would make the best head coach...in the NBA. ha ha.

What's funny??? I agree with him.

This Spurs team is 1 year older. All assistant coaches are gone. Boylen is new, and by all account has done a good job of steadying the ship as Pop's sole right hand man.

Gotta give credit where credit's due.

Let's not joke man...Popovich doesn't need assistants...he is a one man show!

Spurs success has nothing to do with their assistants.

That's only true if the Jazz renounce all their own free agents, including Gordo and Marvin, and release the players on unguaranteed contracts.

Projected Salary Cap: $63.2mm

6 guaranteed contracts + 6 minimum roster charges: $30.2mm = $33mm cap space
6 guaranteed contracts + Gordo's cap hold + 5 minimum roster charges: $38.3mm = 24.9mm cap space
6 guaranteed contracts + Marv's cap hold + 5 minimum roster charges: $40.9mm = $22.3mm cap space
6 guaranteed contracts + Gordo and Marv's cap holds + 4 minimum roster charges: $49.1mm = $14.1mm cap space

Guaranteed contracts: Favors, Kanter, Burke, Burks, Evans, Gobert = $27,149,862
Gordo's cap hold: $8,630,458
Marv's cap hold: $11,250,000
Minimum roster charge: $507,336

Unguaranteed contracts (not included above): Lucas, Garrett, Thomas, Clark
I forgot to include the Jazz draft picks here.

@DJJazzyJody: Ex-Mizzou coach Quin Snyder, now a Hawks assistant, is a leading candidate for the Jazz head coach position, according to multiple sources.

Love the Quin Snyder talk. Young, proven track record as a collegiate HC, coached under Coach K and Messina. I'm onboard.

Quin looks too sexy for the Jazz

Well, proven track record of committing violations serious enough to cause his resignation.

But he's certainly worked his way up the coaching ranks and has worked under a lot of top coaches. No question he's a very intelligent guy: JD and MBA degrees from Duke. This can only mean one thing: we're getting Jabari! Or Boozer is coming back.
