Duncan > Malone?

I love Karl and all , but Tim has shown his longetivity fa sho in the league. Still playing at a high level and has had much more wear and tear than Karl did at this stage of his career.

All in all though I'd say if Popovich coached Malone rather than Her that Malone would be rockin some gold.

Malone had played 2,000 more total minutes (regular season and playoffs) than Duncan at this point in Duncan's career. Malone had more wear and tear, if you count it by minutes played.

Bra.. Malone injury free until his final year .

That we know of. Maybe he just played through them? Point is, I would say Malone aged better than Duncan and held up through the wear and tear of high minutes better than Duncan. Spurs just got wayyyyyyyy better role players.

I might say Duncan > Malone, but would not use longevity in the argument at all. I'd give that edge to Karl tbh

Interesting

I'd be more inclined to say: Duncan > Malone than Popovich > Sloan

Where's the poll?

longevity? Karl played till he was 40. karl played at a ridiculous level till he was 39.

but overall duncan was better because he had better defense and the intangibles. if you put a gun on me and have to choose 1 player to build a team around then i have to pick TD. brings the unique finnesse and length to the game, and he makes others better tad more than karl. and i love karl. karl is the 2nd best PF ever.

karl was clearly a better scorer doe.

career - TD
scoring - karl
peak - karl
prime - TD
defense - TD
intangibles - TD
better at being a true PF - karl
versatility - TD

better overall player - TD

but it's closer than most people think.

Karl was awesome.

But Duncan is better.

Bigger, longer, and better.

definitely not bigger. but definitely longer. karl was a brute power. biggest muscle head we've ever seen. duncan was 'he is stronger than he looks power', and 'he looks much longer than he looks'. but duncan's fluid body and length was the difference on the defensive end.

He's a center that sometimes play PF. But he's a center. He's the one that keeps claiming to be a PF - because if he can be considered a PF he's the greatest of them all. At center he can't make that claim.

I meant bigger being 7 feet tall vs Malone's 6 foot 9.

Duncan is the best. Guys like Malone and Griffin are awesome.

But Duncan is the best I've seen. And much more clutch too.

Having said that, Malone played on some talentless teams. The jazz in the early-mid 90s were terrible.

Jeff Malone, Jamie Watson, Blue Edwards, Felton spencer??? Lol...

in malone's defense, duncan didn't play in an era that consists of bird's celtics, showtime lakers, and MJ's bulls.

The Bird Celtics and Showtime Lakers didn't keep the Jazz from winning championships. The Jazz just weren't contenders yet when those teams were still good. The teams that kept the Jazz from advancing to or winning the finals were the Blazers ('92), Rockets ('94 & '95, although that was in the first round), Sonics ('96) and of course the Bulls ('97 & '98).

IMO the list of top Jazz foes is no better than the Spurs, who faced the peak Shaq/Kobe and Kobe only Lakers AND last year's Heat, plus good Dallas and Phoenix teams over the years, to name a few.

Duncan is better. He's not flashy but he's so fundamentally sound that he typically comes through in the clutch (and they would have won game 7 had he not choked - super uncharacteristic). I expect the Spurs to win the title this year - they're a slightly better team than they were last year.
