Punch Bowl Re-Filler
All else being equal the Spurs major changes this year were the assistant coaches.
Tim Duncan: 1997-present
Manu Ginobili: 2002-present
Tony Parker: 2001-present
David Robinson: 1989-2003
Gregg Popovich (HC): 1996-present
Championships: 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007
I think you can give credit for those championships to having SUPERSTARS and one of the two best HC's in the league (Jackson being the other one). Sorry Jerry, but lack of titles makes you 3rd at best. Don't forget they should have won two years ago had it not been for fumbling the game away. What is the difference this year that has put them back into elite territory? Kawhi Leonard has developed into their 3rd leading scorer. That was a helluva trade for Pops. And, they keep bringing in solid contributors to complement like Belinelli and Mills. They had 6 players average double figures, more than making up for the decline in their Big-3. But yes, give the credit to Boylen. I'm sure it was his idea to rest the older players from time to time during the regular season in order to have them fresh for the playoffs. Oh wait, Pops got fined for that a couple of years ago before Boylen even arrived!
The one thing I DO agree on is coaching under Pops CAN teach you a thing or two. What you do with that knowledge is an entirely different matter.
