Mixed Martial Arts / UFC

Do you remember the all the trout he was talking before the Silva/ Sonnen II match? And then again before the Evans fight?

Anyway, I dont understand your position that just because a guy steps into the ring to fight and subsequently lose, he deserves another chance. So if Sonnen was 0-10 after fighting Bisping, Silva, Jones, etc. does he deserve a title shot?

well then everybody else in the 90's is useless? cus let see.
barkley, ewing, malone, stockton, payton, et al. all are bad? cus they lost to jordan (and phil)

in combat sports you gotta do 2 things promote yourself. and truly believe you will win.
sonnen was just doing those 2.
cant fault him for that.

also he is one unlucky *******.
1.dominating silva for 4 and a half rounds then gets submitted.
2.doing a stupid spinning backfist then slipping landing in an akward position on ground.
3. if he just held out till the end of the first round vs jones. he would have been champ by tko toe injury. jold ouot 27 seconds and he would be champion(albeit a short rein as a rematch would be 6 months later

ok 2nd one doenst really count

so yeah, dont matter to me what he does outside the ring. it is fight promotoion marketing and building confidence he needs.

0-10 ofcourse nobody deserve title shot. but by beating the top contender and (2nd place fighter of year 2013 he does deserve it)

Your basketball references make you sound like your Trout's younger brother. Please stop you're embarrassing yourself.

Sonnen is unlucky? Now you're just making excuses.

hahahah. did not say that.

just saying that he stepping in the ring 3 times with arguably the 2 greatest ever.

and noted that first and last fight could have ended in his favor

Dutch, Dick is right on on this one.

let me put this down why i respect sonnen.
he steps up against anyone on short notice.

sonnen was ready to face jones on a 1 week notice. jones was not.
so skill level jones >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> sonnen.

but sonnen is more man than crybaby jones!

so call it excuses or whatever you like.

when its all said and done sonnen recent record might look bad if you only look at wins losses.
but he did it against 2 of the top 4 goats in most peoples book. and lost to a significant weight advantage rashad.

so i think we have to disagree on excuses or not

I respect Sonnen as well. I think the dude is an extremely talented fighter. This cannot be denied. He puts in work and that's what this sport is about.

That said, calling Jones a cry baby takes all the wind out of your sails, Butch. You sound like a fool. You may not like the guy, you might think he's a dirty fighter, but to call him a cry baby? Really? You have a short memory.

dont know how and if you have been following the news.

but the business side of the ufc he is bitching and doing crappy things.

he said he did not really train for the gus fight, he was at 70% for gusfight. thats why it was a close fight. and if he fought at 100% gus would not stand a chance therefore he does not deserve he rematch.
he is calling out cormier who needs a knee surgery, but is willing to postpone it till after the fight.

i can bet you if by some mircale he gets to fight cormier before the kneesurgery he will attack that knee like crazy.

jones is just a effing crybaby, and a troll.

and the eyepoke thingy is downplayed. but trust me 1 eyepoke might swing a fight in you favor

Sonnen is a stud, I like him a lot, but seriously Dutch? His last good fight was Silva 1, and he lost. His last fights don't matter, because he got his *** raped. He didn't just lose, he was man-handled and embarrassed. He did beat a flabby, aging Pride vet, who has a losing UFC record, so I guess you have a little room to talk...

I will agree with you about Jones though; he is the DuhBron of MMA.

This makes no sense at all.

To be an MMA competitor on any level, you have to learn BJJ and Judo. Just because you add another element to it (strikes), it all of a sudden becomes dumb? That the BJJ and Judo that you've learned is somehow not valid or acceptable now? Silly.

I get that people don't like MMA, and I really don't care if they like it or not and am fine with whatever their reasons are, but what you're saying just doesn't make sense.
of course it does.
I am just too busy to substantiate my position in detail but let's talk about judo/ BJJ a little.
They are rich in curriculum and as sports don't have risks entailed in MMA.
What causes this difference is the rule-set.
MMA competitions are just too risky and too violent.
MMA as a hobbyist would be great for self defence but competition requires another level of commitment and courage.
I don't have it.
I got stitches doing judo, got injured in my ankle (after a violent throw)
That said, these are nothing in comparison to the risks caused or to be caused by MMA fights.
For fitness grappling is more than enough.
For fighting (self defence i.e.), BJJ or Judo each could be a nice solution. I recommend Judo here, for firstly one gets to train throws while standing (tachi waza), which is great and darn effective.
We Judoka have a saying, we don't hit our opponents but use the earth to hit them.
Muay Thai also is great.
Not widely known but I'd recommend Wushu Sanda (Cung Le's sport).
Just don't fight MMA.
train it? Fine. instant fitness and self-defence upgrade surely.
But competition is, for my taste and job, way too risky.
