What's new

Utah loves Dante Exum at 5

See beantown, that's how you do it. Although every team in that range was "considering" Kanter, so pretty vanilla inside scoop.

also it said right in the link that knight seemed to be the more likely pick. (we already had big al and sap playing well as our bigs..... plus we had favors too and nothing at point guard iirc)

Again once Jimmer was gone we knew it was probably going to be either Burks or Leonard. Those were the two players left on the board that we knew that Jazz liked.
jazz liked chris singleton silly goose.

I know this will probably get me murdered because Exum is the flavor of the week here but...

I think Smart > Gordon

Smart is hardly an offensive slouch and his defense and fire is exactly what we need. Will Exum get on Favors/Kanter's *** when they give another half *** effort in defending the pick and roll?

If Exum is all that athletic, then great. But I want to see more. Just because he's 6 foot 6 and supposedly athletic (difficult to tell since he's always going against stiffs who look like they couldn't even start for snow college) doesn't mean he's Kobe and Lebron's love child.

We need a #1 option. Is that Exum?
We also need a leader, have any of you read about Exum's leadership?

the pick is Smart and trade Trey, bring over Neto. Tough guys seem to scare Jazz brass for some reason so Smart prob will be passed by Utah.

If anyone is willing to go down 4 years on Jonathan Givony's tweet timeline, you will find that a couple of days before the draft he said the Jazz will draft Hayward at 9, I remember that .
as i said before..... we needed big guys (boozer was gone and memo was hurt and old)
most people thought we were taking aldrich, or ed davis..... some even thought hassan whiteside.

everyone attending the draft party was shocked amd pissed that we took hayward. the whole crowd booed and koc had to say "maybe you hate the pick now but wait a few years to judge this pick and i think you will be happy" or some ish like that.

deron and cp3 were close to 50/50. (sloan wanted dwill, koc wanted paul)

during the kanter draft ALOT of people thought we would pick brandon knight at 3. (also alot of people thought we would take chris singleton at 12 over burks)

hayward was a HUGE surprise.... i remember being at the delts center for that draft and everyone was shocked we took hayward.... we needed big guys at the time (didnt have big al yet) and alot of people thought we would take ed davis or cole aldrich.

And people complain that we didn't draft well. I'd rather have Kanter and Burks then Knight and Singleton.

We also need a leader, have any of you read about Exum's leadership?

yeah, he was leading his teams in shots chucked and bricked during medal games in U-19 championship. That 10-2 3-pt shooting or 4-10 FT shooting is sure signs of leadership...

ya
i think the jazz have done a solid job in the last 5 years or so.
not terrific but not bad at all.

during the great years we wiffed often (pavlovic, snyder, humphries, quincy lewis, mo almond, borchard off the top of my head) but we have done pretty good with lotto picks.

i give us a B with our lottery picks.

an A would have been george, cp3, and leonard but the guys we took were not bad big time busts imo

Just look at the Cavs or Minnesota if you want to see bad drafting.

To all the Exum lovers out here, help me out - if you're picking him to play PG - who is his best comp? What's his ceiling like? Is he gonna be ultra athletic like Westbrook? He isn't gonna be a shooter like Curry.....

I'm all for picking Exum to play SG with Burke, but if he's gonna be the PG I just don't have a good handle on him there....

penny hardaway as a point guard would be his ceiling imo.
livingston would be his middle ground

also mcw is a similar type player. (tall, poor shooter)

I'm too young to remember Penny Hardaway...

Think...

A 6 foot 6 less intense Westbrook with a smoother outside shot and outstanding ball handling skills... Or heck, afro Kobe Bryant.

Penny could have been Kobe Bryant had he never suffered from so many injuries. Penny would be in the HOF had he not suffered injuries.

yup.
penny was a total badass..... if exum ever gets to his level (unlikely) then he is a top 8 guy in the league.

Position is SF. Comp is Julius Randle.

McBuckets. Exum's outside shot isn't very good but he can drive on anybody, right? The P&R drive and kick game with Exum and McBuckets would terrorize the league much like how Harden and Parsons destroy defenses. The problem is... I'm not sure either plays much defense themselves...
