What's new

Utah loves Dante Exum at 5

You lose all credit with saying they are high on Randle and Smart.

I don't have any intel on jazz bro. all I have are mine.

I can see the new coach wanting to see smart on his team because I think he is a change of view in coach position to interpret players. I was sure they won't get smart before the snyder move but now I can see him on snyder's team as the man to be the answer to lock down defense on backcourt. as for randle, I can see him on the team but less than the level at the beginning of the last season. he comes, someone, probably enes goes.

Yes, the Millers were very torn. At the council of drafting they all sat around the table and debated. Lucifer said that he would dominate the nba, win, and bring all the fans back to the jazz. Jimmer said that he would peacefully sacrifice himself and win the fans back. We are just waiting patiently for the Jazz to resign him so we can hang him from the basketball hoop.

We haven't seen much of him, but, you can rest assured that NBA scouts have seen enough of him to make an informed judgement.

Same like they have seen enough on Milicic, Tzikitishwili, Vesely, Byombo, Yi and other "supertalents"?

They've seen enough on Dirk, Gasol, Yao, Rubio, Kanter, etc. It works both ways my friend.

Only Dirk would fit in here yet he was not drafted anywhere in top 5. Yao was enormous giant - his size was enough to draft him. With Gasol and Rubio you had way more game info and stats to drool over than Exum.
Kanter is kind of like Exum - was overvalued and drafted way to high.

This simply isn't true. Kanter still goes top 5 in a redraft. I'd still take him 3rd. It wasn't a very good draft overall, but the Jazz did very, very well with Kanter and Burks.

agreed

It's not hard to see why the Jazz like him. The Jazz get destroyed on pick and rolls and being able to switch with a big PG like Exum makes life so much easier for them.

If we are drafting a PG based strictly on defense then we should draft Smart, hands down.

The thing is at this point Dante Exum is a shooting guard. To me, Dante Exum being a PG is overstated, an adjustment period will be necessary for him to move to Point. I watched him get 17 assists in a game and I still feel that way. Ive re-read the draftee's thread, on PKM's earliest posts on Exum way back he says multiple times 'SG'.

Maybe im selling Dante short but I think in his first or 2nd season, the hope is for him to have a Linsanity type impact off the bench, then follow it up with a starter worthy campaign in his 3rd or 4th season at the age of 21 or 22.

I do think you could make a case for Exum's PG skills being better than Westbrooks at the time of the draft.

To the Jazz these positional questions wont mean much, If they think he can score 25ppg someday, he will be the pick. You can definitely play Dante next to Trey, Alec or Hayward.

lol. Irwing, Valanciunas, Leonard, Thompson, Thompson, Vucevic, Walker. Some may put Farried here as well. Here is your top 7-8 in that draft. Kanter has no place in redraft top 7, redrafting him at 3 is insanity.

Yeah looking back I see guys like Tobias Harris, Jimmy Butler, Reggie Jackson, and Iman Shumpert. Not sure why this is considered a weak draft class.

also im willing to bet that every player on that list averaged more minutes per game than kanter in the first 2 years for sure and possibly all 3 years.
so i dont think its an apples to apples comparison really

(probably all played more college or international ball too)
