Following potential 2014 draftees

I have said it before and I'll say it again...

I have watched Gordon play in person more than ANY poster on this board. Pls direct all Gordon questions to teh UGLI baby.

UGLI Baby, I live 45 minutes from where Air Gordon played. All of their games were on my local TV station. I even went to two of his games live.

So what's White Chocolate's take? Did Gordon play the 3 a lot? How was he at it?

Aaron Gordon is a high energy player, great offensive rebounder lead the Pac-12 I believe. Gordon played a lot of three for 2/3 of the season with Kaleb Tarczewski at center and Brandon Ashley at power forward. When Ashley went down with a broken foot, Gordon stepped into the power forward roll. Considering Arizona started the season 21-0, I think that line-up worked really well. I do believe that if Ashley didn't get hurt Arizona would have won it all.

I don't think he will have a problem finishing at the next level. Obviously, his free throw shooting is suspect. But, the Arizona coaches said he was a 80% free throw shooter in practice. So it is a mental thing at the line, can he overcome that? Sure, needs to develop a jump-shot too, he doesn't have an ugly stroke at all. Shot 36% from the three-point line, but really didn't attempt many, it seemed like one or two a game.

Got a lot of points by grabbing offensive rebounds and putting them back, being a hustle player. Runs the break like a gazelle, leading to easy baskets and dunks. Can also facilitate the break and did sometimes during games by grabbing a rebound and dribbling it up the court and finding the open man.

The funny thing is although he played a lot of his time at the 3 this season, many people believe he is a 4. By no means is he a tweener in my opinion. Seems like a definite small forward in the NBA, but it intrigues me to have him play time at the 4 with Favors or Kanter at the 5 in some line-ups.

Was a double-double threat every night and was good for at least two or three highlight plays a night as well. A lockdown defender no doubt which I believe the Jazz could really use. Is he a number one option on a team? Not right now, but if he continues to hit the corner threes at a high level and learns how to hit free throws, there is no doubt that he can average 20+ points in the league for a couple of years.

If I recall right, he is the youngest player in the draft. Has so much upside and potential, but like was mentioned before, he plays with such a high motor and with high energy. You just can't teach a guy that and was a great player and still averaged 12/8 on a very good Arizona team. Just using his athletic ability he blocked shots sort of the way LeBron does. Didn't really turn the ball over that much at all either, just a really good all-around player.

If he had a consistent jumpshot he would be in consideration as a top-3 pick without a doubt, but the thing is he doesn't. Free-throws he really needs to improve on, needs to develop a go to move as well. A great finisher around the rim though, but needs something else to his game like a floater or something of that nature. He did shoot a floater every once and a while, but it looked uncomfortable for him. Could become better with his post game, but it seemed like he had some solid post moves.

All in all, he is a 3 at the next level. Can and will play the 4 in some line-ups with Favors or Kanter at the five. Definitely has the size to at 6'9 220 lbs. If he could develop his jump-shot a little more i.e. Kawhi Leonard and just become more confident in his free-throws he will be a scary player in the future. Needs a go to move, but is a high energy player and plays with a high motor.

Can Aaron Gordon do a spin move and finish? Has you seen it?

Yes, I have seen it on some occasions. It happened sometimes when he would catch the ball at half court on a fast break or started the break, he has a nice spin move, but really didn't use it all that often. The problem is he would finish it, but it would kind of be like a scoop or low finger roll or throw at the rim sometimes and got a nice roll. Will need to adjust that or else it will be blocked at the next level. Has a nice spin move, can finish it, but needs to become quicker with it and I think he will with more practice. Also needs to get better at getting closer to the rim to finish it.

It's not on Andrew Wiggins level, it's not bad, but it definitely needs to become quicker.

A. Gordon has so much upside and potential it is so hard not to like him. Everybody in Arizona loves him and thought he was the best player on the team. A great defender and rebounder, high energy and motor player, above-average passer for position, needs to develop his shot, and become more consistent with free throws. This guy should be the consensus pick at #5 without a doubt. That is assuming one of the top-3 don't fall or the Jazz don't trade up.

Does he enter his spin move with hunger?

Randle worked out for the Celtics and Brad Stevens liked what he saw:

“He looked good,” Stevens said, according to Boston.com. “Obviously a big, strong guy. He is very quick, he’s light on his feet. I think by the time it’s all said and done, he’s going to have NBA 3-point range. I think he’s going to be a really good player.”

- Quick

- Light on his feet

- 3-point range.

What's Stevens trying to say? Probably the same thing I've been harping on for the last 9 months.

If Exum and Irving had been in the same draft, who do you think would have gone first?
irving.

irving was pretty much a sure thing and a no brainer #1 pick
