Orlando Magic close to trading ~$50 million in salary.

That's what the word on the street is. Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat, Mickael Pietrus, a 1st rounder, and $3 million for Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu, and Earl Clark.

Meanwhile, Otis Smith is trying to rectify the mistake of obscenely over-paying Rashard Lewis by trading for another obscene over-payed mistake in Gilbert Arenas.

I might update this thread if anything happens. But I might not. At face-value, this seems like a homerun for everyone EXCEPT the Magic.

....well, obviously, Stan Vangundy is not enthralled with the defense Carter and Lewis are playing....and although they are practically gutting this team, they must feel to keep up with the "Jones"...I mean the Heat and Celtics, radical moves had to be made. Of course, they still have the corner stone piece in Howard and they'll have a point guard in what's his name to distribute the ball. They are not shedding as much payroll as you think! Gilbert and Turkalou have ridculous contracts as well. I guess at least Lewis will be getting paid back for not playing any defense....he's being shipped off to the Wizards....about a 10 win team! Serves the buzzard right, in my opinion!

....oh, by the way....maybe the Wizards will make Lewis shave that pathetic looking goatie he's sporting. THing makes me want to puke! Or he can keep it and join the Circus...when these clowns get locked out next year!

Wicked deal for the Suns. They unload Hedo, swap expiring wing stars (JRich for Wince), pick up another expiring wing (Pietrus, who they can tryout for the rest of the season, add a much needed 5 (especially with Robin Lopez's injury concerns), and also receive a first round pick and $3mil. That team looked as though they were headed nowhere fast, but they've just given themselves SO MUCH MORE flexibility. Nice.

....well, it looks to me like they just went nowhere...but just got there faster! Could be, though, that after the long lock out and new CBA is in place....they might be better off than they are now. Of course, Nash will be gone but that kid who replaces him now ain't chopped liver, either!

The team may not be any better (although this is far from a sure thing with Gortat headed to Phoenix), sure, but at least they don't have to pay Hedo for the next 4 years. Dude is absolute garbage.

If you thought Rashard Lewis' contract was bad and hamstringing the team... welcome Gilbert Arenas with open arms. And Arenas is supposed to mesh with Jameer?

You get Jason Richardson who isn't really going to be better than Vince Carter. You get Hedo back with a bigger contract to replace Rashard. Then you get Gilbert Arenas to play combo guard. Could work maybe, I guess.

No kidding. They took on Hedo and Gil for...what? Who plays the 5 when Dwight needs a breather? Ryan Anderson? Brandon Bass? Earl Clark? Yikes.

Dwight will now play every minute for the remainder of the season.

I can't figure out why Orlando did all of the leg work here just to shaft themselves. Someone help me out;

-Is Richardson any better than VC? Mid-season trades universally make the players involved play less than optimally.
-The Magic looked like damn geniuses letting Hedo walk, now they come crawling back to the shell that they let go? So confused.
-Why is Orlando giving up picks and cash to PHX?(!!!)
-The Magic apparently wouldn't do a deal with Houston because they wouldn't include Kevin Martin, so they opt to throw their assets for PHX's trash?
-How does opting for a washed-up chucker headcase that plays no D on a team that doesn't need another PG with AN ADDITIONAL YEAR on his contract over a PF that spreads the floor and at least doesn't shame your organization annually on a shorter deal help? I don't get this at all. What the **** are they thinking? This is madness.
-Among 8 players and $50 million trading hands, the Magic somehow LOST a C and didn't get another one back? I would argue the Magic let the most important player in these trades go (Gortat, even if they didn't need him terribly) because Gortat is the only one that isn't totally unproven (Clark) while also not being clearly on the down slope of his career.

Wizards and Suns made out like bandits in the night, except Orlando broke into their houses and gave them everything. I think they're as bewildered as I am right now. Good for them.

...ok, pay attention here, because I'm only going to say this once and I don't want to repeat myself! Vince Carter played NO DEFENSE whatsoever! When he's not hitting his jumpshot, which was frequently the case, he was virtually worthless. He had fallen out of favor with both VanGundy and Howard. Howard was complaining that Carter doesn't even make a feeble attempt to stay in front of his man! Richardson is better both offensively and defensively than Carter. Turkolu played very well in Orlando's system. They are gambling that he will again and hasn't lost too much since 2008. With Howards inside presence they are figuring Arena's will be getting more open looks than can be imagined....plus he's a better passer than Lewis. It could all backfire, but with Howard and Nelson still the two key pieces running the show, it probably won't. Vangundy must have signed off on the deals or they wouldn't have been made. Hard to argue against VanGundy's tract record. He took lesser players to the finals!

KEK's boy Daniel Orton.

LOL. Awesome memory bro. Did I tout him that much?

How's he doing by the way?

<looking up his stats>

Aaaaaaaaand per nba.com, there is no data for Daniel Orton. None for the D-League either.

Pittman, who I touted more than anyone else is playing good ball down in the D-League though. 15.9, 9.0, 1.7 per game. Not bad.

And who's this Orien Greene on the Flash? Do we have his rights?

This all means that here in a few years Dwight is going to dump Orlando and join the Lakers. By that time Kobe, Gasol, Artest, Fisher, and Odom will be retired or retiring.

Dwight will then lead the Lakers to 3 straight NBA championships.... While Orlando withers away in the lottery...

Dumb franchise.
