Free Agent Rumors Thread

True, there's no penalty, but if you have to shell out the $ regardless then you might as well hit the floor and put that additional money spent to good use (e.g. taking $23M in dead weight from the Warriors to snag two additional first round picks).

If we can take on an expiring contract in the Melo/Lebron sweepstakes and get an additional first rounder to boot, I'm all for it.

We won't get a first. There are too many teams with cap space and only 'Melo to sign. Lebron is 99% certain to go back to Miami from all reports. Wade. Bosh and Haslem have all opted out, giving Miami some room to sign FA's before they sign new deals.

Cleveland supposedly has interest in Hayward and Ariza.

did Locke say - maybe it was speculation - but I think he said Cleveland was interested in Hayward and that if the Jazz had him under contract we could've traded him + ? for the #1 pick.

I would have traded Hayward and another player(Kanter) for the number one pick for Wiggins. I wouldn't have given them number 5 though. I would have given them a future pick. Our 2017 or GS 2017 which ever is lower.

No, it was posted on one of the sports sites today (may have been hoops hype). Said Cleveland was mulling a huge offer to Gordon.
But, I'm sure they'd wait for Decision 2.0 to be final.

As for Boston, sure the interest is mutual. His ex-coach is there. Can't tell for certain, but it appears they have about $52M committed if they renounce all their non-guaranteed deals and just keep the QO open for Avery. Joel Anthony also has a player option for $3.8M. Not sure if he exercised that. So Boston has about $12M or so unless they do some roster moves.

Cavs would have been complete idiots to take Hayward and Kanter for Wiggins.
If I'm Jazz though I do that trade immediately.

So if Cavs are interested in Hayward does that mean they don't want Deng?

That's correct. And Deng isn't interested in them from what's been said. It was a terrible locker room situation last year with Irving and Waiters fighting.

I think Locke was on 1280 a day or two after the draft when he mentioned Cav's interest in Hayward - and that including him with the #5 and I don't what else (Kanter, some picks) would have landed the #1 pick.

Jazz got a stud at 5 so I'm glad we didn't do it but if Cleveland really is in love with Gordon then, yeah, we can all keep dreaming of a deal for Wiggins.

So a S&T of Hayward, Exum and other asset(s) for Wiggins? You can't be serious?
Exum has as much chance as Wiggins of being a franchise player.

A. Bentley didnt put a specific scenario out there..... he simply said maybe we could still use hayward to get wiggins.

B. Exum and wiggins do not have the same chances to be franchise players. There is a reason wiggins went #1 (and most likely would have no matter who was drafting first) and exum fell to #5

WE differ on that one. Exum has ELITE size and speed for his position. Wiggins is a project, just like Exum. Exum didn't play college ball, so is a year behind developmentally. He was also an unknown to most. Before the combine, most were saying there was a "big 4" which included Wiggins, Parker, Embiid and Exum.

I'll bet you 10 rep points that within 4 years, Exum is considered every bit the player that Wiggins becomes. I say four because I think Exum is a couple of years away from being an NBA starter, just like Stockton was.

Exum only has elite size if he plays PG.

His speed is only elite if he plays SG.

He has an elite combination of size and speed though. No one over 6'4 will be faster than him, but there will be plenty of guys under that height who will have equivalent speed.

Faster combine times than Paul or Lillard. I'd say he has ELITE speed as a PG. Same or better speed than players several inches shorter and the size to post them up. Or the ability to blow by a SG if you switch up on defense. He has ELITE potential.

Burke had a faster sprint time than Exum, does that make him have elite speed also?

Do PGs post up anymore? Trying to think of examples... Westbrook?

There is no way that Wiggins is worth Hayward, Kanter and Exum. Exum is not that far behind Wiggins in talent. The difference is small. It doesn't matter but why would Cavs offer Hayward a huge contract if they have Waiters and Wiggins already on the roster. I guess they will try to move Waiters but it sounds pretty fishy this rumor.

I remember Payton doing it a ton but doesn't seem like something that us really popular anymore. Doesn't mean it's not effective.
