Free Agent Rumors Thread

It's Cleveland... it took them forever to get the #1 pick in. It will likely take them until Christmas to hash out an offer sheet.

In all seriousness... I think Cleveland is one place that players would say they'd rather go to Utah. I was worried he'd go to Phoenix and get an offer that we'd match and he'd be bummed. He's signing that Cleveland agreement praying the Jazz match.

If Cleveland is dumb enough to sign Hayward to a Max then good riddance. I cannot believe that Jazz nation and the front office haven't learned their lesson about overpaying for good players. Jazz should call Parson agent and say we have a contract 4 years 46million front load it so Houston balks or they sign it and are stuck with the team they have. AGAIN DO NOT SIGN HAYWARD TO A MAX CONTRACT... DL don't be dumb.

How high would you go matching a Gordo offer sheet?

Tough one. I'd probably go as high as 12M, 13M if it's front loaded. While I think he's worth more like 9M, that contract won't kill us and he's young, a good kid, and won't be so overpaid that we couldn't move him after the December date.

This.

Lance is a horrible fit. He has had off the court issues as well as the knucklehead stuff during the playoffs. He is part of the reason that team derailed. You don't give guys like Lance big long contracts and hope they stay out of trouble.

Its not just one thing with Lance. He's similar to JR Smith in that his garbage (not just the cute stuff like blowing in Lebron's ear) wears on teammates. He has also been babysat by Larry Bird the last few years. I don't see the Jazz being willing to commit the time and energy to that effort.

I'd rather get Tyreke from NOLA than pursue Lance if we want to go the small-small forward route.

This is awful on so many levels.

For the record, I agree with GVC. I'd take the risk on Lance at ~11mil well before I'd give Gordon the max.

But by all means, lets play it ultra safe.

Why do either one? Lance is not worth the trouble and who knows what the money would do to him. No his knucklehead rating is still very high. He hasn't matured that much since being in the league at all. Time and Time again people think talent trumps the knucklehead factor and most of the time it turns out it doesn't. Most smart GMs want nothing to do with Lance. His behavior in this year's playoffs cost him millions of dollars. I thought the $9 million Indy offered was far more than anyone else would give him.

I believe there is an extra warm spot in hell for Dan Gilbert. If he signs Gordon to the max it will confirm it.

Btw, if Stephenson was not such a knucklehead could you imagine Stephenson and Wiggins with Kyrie?
Fits a lot better than Wiggins and Hayward.

Sorry if it is already been mentioned, but Cleveland's max offer is what? Anything over 4-years $56 mil I think you let them have him for that.

Cleveland obviously looking to get rid of Waiters now with Wiggins as the SG and Hayward at SF.
I'd call Cleveland and see if we can get anything in a S&T. Can't do that AFTER an offer sheet is signed. They can give Gordon a fifth year if we agree to terms on a S&T.

White Chocolate...
A MAX offer for Gordon would start around $15M/per with 4.5% raises each season. So roughly 4/$64M.

RT@AlexKennedyNBA: Add the Jazz to the list of teams that have expressed interest in Kent Bazemore, per sources. ATL, SAS, PHX, BOS, DAL, LAL also interested.

I really like Kent Bazemore. but I worry about the logjame at the SG position.

Dante Exum, Burks and Bazemore??? I know Dante is a PG but so is Trey. The guard positions would be very crowded.

Lance has started fights with teammates his whole career (including college)... including right before the playoffs last year. Has had a couple of incidents with women (maybe he's past it). The real problem is you can't fix crazy/stupid it has to be managed. I would rather spend our energy managing the development of our young players.

Teams that are generally considered risk takers, such as Dallas, want nothing to do with the guy. History has shown us when you give risky guys lots of money it doesn't make them behave better. He's talented no doubt, but he's not a guy I'd want around our team.

By the way... the Jazz would never consider this guy.... NEVER!

While I love Lance, he's the type of player that needs some solid vets to keep him from killing your locker room. Hell, even PG had issues with him. Lance would cause all kinds of problems and mess with our tender, young squad.

Those who think we even have a small chance at Parson's are not listening. He opted out (Rox released him) to help the Rox position a deal for Melo/LeBron. He's waiting for that to flesh out and he'll act on the deal the Rox have already worked out for him. He's not an option.

Yep. Unless Parsons has the character of Carlos Boozer (which he doesn't). He was not unhappy in Houston like Boozer was in Chicago.
