Jazz acquire Novak from Raptors

I can imagine being happier if we hadn't made the move at all. This is such a minor trade with a minor reward. I wish we were making bigger deals.

So you'd like us to be the pistons last year?

I think you've gotta be continually making solid small moves like this. I would consider Giricek for Korver the same kind, though I think utilizing Korver better would have improved our team game more than we'd allow it because we were resistant to shooting from the outside. I think trading trash for Fisher, despite him shooting poorly and leaving like a douche, was a huge part in us making our WCF run, despite how much we hate that guy now. Jason Hart for Brevin Knight should have been one of those deals but ended up working out about as well as Hart.

This is a solid move. There aren't any veterans I really want to bring in unless they'll add a lot to our team. I don't see a lot of guys we can reasonably obtain that I'd take. I'd pick up a Chris Singleton and call it a day.

Dude, I'm saying this with a straight face. If you were to weigh the significance of adding Novak and Singleton versus the significance of adding Kent Bazemore, you'd find Bazemore a much more significant addition. . . . . .... and Bazemore went un-drafted one year ago.

In other words, Novak and someone like Singleton are barely blips. I wouldn't call it a day so soon.

Hardly.

I'm just not gonna spew booster-ish **** because we picked up a "keep gettin dem checks" guy. I see the logic behind the trade, and I don't disapprove. I'm just not gonna care much.

IMO, there's no doubting that we lack two solid defenders for the perimeter. Everything else we acquire just feels like filler/details. I'll be interested to see the larger vision as it unfolds, because, well, Novak is just filler/details.

I'm just excited because we are that much closer to realizing my dream of "all the 2nd round picks are belong to us!" Keep obtaining them and trading back. this will make 7 future second round picks owed to us.

If Jazz are doing salary dumps for picks again, I would rather have Lin or Boozer and get multiple first rounders.

LOL!
Chicago can just amnesty Boozer. They won't give up a 1st. Houston reportedly has a deal in place with Philly for Lin, but only needs to trade him if they get 'Melo. Several team with cap space = not very good assets in return.

So what does getting rid of Garrett mean?
Anything?
Jazz need a third PG. Does JL3 stay?
Do Jazz sign someone else?

The Jazz don't "have" to get to the minimum. There is an incentive to not be below the minimum but it's a very small incentive.

True, but the difference gets paid out to the players on the roster. WE get a 2nd and Novak is a guy who can even be traded again to a contender who needs some 3-pt shooting this year or next. It's a "meh' move, but like someone else pointed out, you never know when a 2nd is going to find another Millsap, be combined to move up, or just be that asset that has to be given up by the Jazz for another trade to happen.

It was reported that they'd keep him unless he was going to be in a trade (like Garrett). They have till December to decide if they want to keep any of the ungaruanteed contracts though too.

Well, the real question should be why does DL keep acquiring 2nd rounders when he obviously does not know what to do with them. Still can't fathom why we traded this years second when there was obvious 1st round talent on the board.

Whoa! Jazz and Cub trades on the same day!

This one's not a big deal doe.

Feel bad for Garrett, he's my homeboy.

What'd the cubs do? Hammel?

£¥£

Swept the Red Sox @ Fenway

Won a game that started at 8:05 Pacific time

Traded Samardzija AND Hammel to the A's. Huge deal. A's are looking to not get their asses kicked by the Tigers in the playoffs this year.

Oh dang, monster trade. How many young stud Short stops do the cubs need??

£¥£

Cubs have so much offensive talent in the system it's ridiculous. Good thing, cuz outside of Castrizzo, there's not much in the majors.

lol

Tough to find pictures of him on the Raptors. Someday the camera will make it Canadia.

Sure can stroke it doe

Boy, if I had a nickel...

He's a serviceable player. That second year is a bit troubling. More than anything, is anyone concerned at all that this organization isn't serious about improving the defense? We know very little about Exum (relatively), Hood was not a defender, and now they're adding a guy that can't defend anybody? I get that the Jazz got an asset or two here, but they're small, and the Jazz will utilize Novak since it's a multi-year (why would you add the years for the mere pittance of a 2nd rounder if you're not going to play him?).

So I rhetorically ask, where are the defensive players?
