Trey Burke... Keep or trade?

I'm not a Trey homer, but I still wouldn't trade him now unless the deal was too good to pass up (which it wouldn't be). I want to see if he's gotten better over the summer, and how he operates under Quin, and with Hood and Exum. If he becomes a good NBA player, I won't care that he and his mom have assholes for lips. Never minded someone who talked ****, as long as they backed it up.
 
I think we should either trade him or keep him.

And from the looks of it Dante can handle the Point and so can Gordon to some extent.

Your solution is have Exum cover the PG duties.... From the looks of it? You've seen him on YouTube....
Your other option is a Free Agent.....

Burke averaged a good amount of Assists as a rookie in a horrible system. I can see him dishing out 8 assists a game and giving is a good outside shot.

Not sure why you think PGs are a dime a dozen. Centers are also but good ones are not .

Love how we draft the international kid of mystery and some are quick to jump ship on a 1st team Rookie NBA player this quick.
 
Exum should really play SG the way Kobe and MJ does it.. have a PG bring the ball up (Fisher/Harper & Kerr), but it's really Kobe/MJ who gets to touch the ball and hold onto it for the majority of the possession.


Look at this video (From 3.05min onwards) - one of Exum's main weakness is getting the ball and bringing it up court - so why not let Burke do that? His main strength is his handle (one of the best lowest Assist/TO in the NBA last year).


Have Burke bring the ball up - if nothing's on - pass it to Exum to let him make plays for others or for himself. This way:


- both players get to touch the ball plenty of time

- Burke's strength is utilised

- Exum's weakness is neutralised

- Everybody wins.

How comforting it is to know our draft pic thats a point guard can't dribble the ball to the half court line. I'm just thinking if his biggest weakness is dribbling the ball up the court, than we have bigger issues.

So it's only dribbling the ball up the court, shooting, and decision making.

That's it though so we're ok.

Acting like he should have full-grown man strength is foolish. Big guards have to use there body to shield the ball-see Mark Jackson, etc. Exum has a really long way to go. We don't know if he will be able to resolve his issues or not.

I think we know who Alec Burks is as a player. He is a good player but I don't expect any really big changes.

Hopefully we see a stronger, more assertive Trey Burke in Summer League. He needs to dominate when he plays.

Why?

He has had one season of decent minutes off the bench in which he showed alot of improvement.... and he is 22 years old

That was also one of James Hardens biggest issue coming from college, he improved a great deal though and is now a very good ball handler. Dante is still young, 19 in five days so he have time to improve.

Lol. Burks has improved significantly every year he's been in the league and he's just 22 having played just one full season. Holy hell.

Even if he doesn't improve a lick (which would make no sense), just playing him 35 minutes, he would put up 18 ppg. Give him the minutes, factor in some improvement - which is logical - he's easily an efficient 20+ ppg guy by the time he's 25.

Some improvement is logical and say he can maintain his TS% last year of 54.7% with more usage. But we know who he is. He is a efficient scorer and a good rebounder as a SG. However he is not a good defender despite his physical tools. He is an average to below average playermaker for a guard.

Maybe he can improve his shooting percentages a little with practice and slightly better shot selection. But I don't expect him to suddenly start running the pick and roll effectively. I don't expect him to suddenly know how get over screens better. I don't expect him to have much better help defense.

He has real value and we should keep him in a position to be a good scoring option for us. But it isn't like he is going to morph into superstar player.

I hope I am wrong and we find out after we extend his contract.

Again, with just minimal improvement, he's up around 20 ppg by the age of 24. Some guys continue to improve up into their mid-late 20s. Burks has the work ethic, attitude and god-given ability. Certainly wouldn't be out of the question for him to be a 22-24 ppg guy. That makes him a perennial all-star. I'm not saying that will happen, but it's not a stretch either.

you are judging him off of basically one year of decent minutes off the bench on a tanking team with a lame duck coach.

I dont think you, me, or anyone knows what burks will be as a finished product.

I think we know much more about what favors, hayward, kanter, and even trey will be than we do alec

Trey was a rookie with a significant injury if not the whole year the majority of it. And while he played starter mins the system didn't play to his strengths. I understand Alec has become something of a folk hero around this forum, and I agree his situation hasn't been ideal. However saying you can have a better feel for Trey without a full off-season to train like a pro than Alec after two full off-seasons of training like a pro is illogical.
