Omnibus Gordon Hayward Thread (To clean up the Board some)

If he's looking for a job opportunity, and being the player who has a decent market value right now, I think teams invite him to check out the city, the organization and break balls a little.

It looks gay as hell Gordon or any other player checking out those opportunities, but you would have to accept that invitation too if you were looking for a deal. But if he thinks he should travel around because he is one of the solid stars of the league, then he is considering himself more than what he is.

I wonder if he is making all the trips because he can and nobody has given him an offer yet. This might be all about him learning about where he is in the league.

Same rules of trade would apply there too. Market yourself not waiting for the demand and you lowball our own value. Wait for them to come to you and enjoy your leverage.

Dudes. I have no problem with him shopping for the best deal. Get over it.

I have a problem with making RFAgency a ****ing parade. Both cities he visited, CLE and CHA, their boards have Hayward threads and every post is wtf. No one wants this guy for more that $9M and most don't want him at all. This tour is stupid.

You may be unaware, but fans don't sign the contracts.

oh rly omfggtfo

Tours like this are media stunts as well. They help manipulate the deal and stir up the fan base. I used other boards as an example. The hype for Hayward is not out there. Again, this tour is stupid.

So Hayward should just sit at home and make phonecalls instead of visiting the places he might be playing for during the next 4 years?

I mentioned this in another thread - those talks of Hayward being in Cleveland discussing a potential contract are FALSE. He wasn't in Cleveland at all. His agent was blowing smoke to pump up his value.

I think he's been to all the places he may play for before.

I've never seen a RFA go on tour like this before. Gordon Hayward is gonna get booed big time by Jazz fans and his fragile ego will cause him to slump his shoulders once more.

If I'm looking for a job, I'll look at all of my options. The reason it's taking a long time for hayward is because of Melo, Lebron, etc. Teams are waiting to see what happens with those players before going after the smaller prizes.

It couldn't possibly be because nobody can sign him until July 10th...

Egos are kind of like an hierarchy. I don't think he's going to suffer from a bunch of even more fragile egos booing him, and then running out of ESA with their tails between their legs.

You guys are ridiculous. Hayward should be doing exactly what he's doing. He is probably staying in Utah but he SHOULD be out exploring what options are our there, this is his lively hood and potentially the biggest contract he will ever get. There were also reports that the Jazz basically said go find out what the market will give you since we can't agree on a deal. Give the guy a break already.

You just came up with a cool nickname for our 23rd pick.

Depends on supply/demand and how much their current teams are willing to pay. In general, most teams are able to agree to contracts with their RFA's, either the summer before, or once free agency opens.

2011 - Wilson Chandler and Aaron Brooks were the best RFA's on the market.
2012 - Rose, Love, Batum and Gallinari re-signed with their own teams. Hibbert (max), Asik ($8M/per) and Eric Gordon (max) got big offer sheets. Indiana and New Orleans matched, Chicago did not.
2013 - Several players reached extensions before they became RFA's (Curry, Lawson). Others were traded (Jennings in a S&T). Harden would have become a RFA but he was traded the season before and got a max extension.
2014 - Bledsoe to likely get the max, Bradley has already re-signed (overpaid), Monroe has been largely ignored, Parsons likely waiting on Houston to make moves. Isaiah Thomas and Gordon Hayward are in similar situations as neither has been offered a deal by their current team that they've deemed acceptable.

I know I've likely missed a few in the summary above, but it gives a decent picture.

I think we should be flattered Hayward is so highly regarded by so many teams. Maybe they all know something we don't. Perhaps they're willing to discount last season as misuse by a bad coach on bad team which led to a miserable mental state. Seriously, how many of us have been on teams or even at jobs where the situation was so miserable we just "mailed it in" until managing to escape? Is it any wonder Hayward ISN'T waiting around for Lindsey to up his offer and would certainly sign a max deal with any team that offered him one? Why stay in Utah where you've been criticized so much when you can go to "insert city here" that rolls out the red carpet for you. Doesn't matter if WE think Hayward is "worth" $15M. His value will be whatever he gets.

This offseason tour Hayward is going on is annoying and kind of stupid. How many RFA's are courting and visiting teams this offseason? Maybe I'm taking things too seriously, but he's going on a Melo tour and, whether he thinks so or not, he ain't no Melo.

I think Hayward wants out. Now. He looking desperately for a max offer, or the most toxic offer out there. Hell, if he doesn't find one I'll be he takes the qualifying offer and becomes a UFA next season and bolts.

Either he comes to a deal with the Jazz or we should seriously consider and S&T.

Anyone else think this RFA tour is a slap in the face?

So, purely out of curiosity, if several firms in different cities were recruiting you, each offering a high salary but a different work environment, you would not take the time to visit each firm and each city before making an informed decision where you wanted to work?

As someone else said..... he has been to each of these cities numerous times already. Because he is an nba player he travels alot in his line of work

He has probably been to cleveland at least 4 times and has probably been to charlotte more than than (jazz play western conference teams more than eastern)

Obviously my loyalty is going to be for the firm that hired me first, especially since I had absolutely NO choice in choosing them. I've asked them to pay me what I think I'm worth, but they've lowballed me (IMO). Management was absolutely HORRIBLE last year. I hated my job and was miserable. They've made changes, but still don't want to pay me market value, at least from what I've been told is my true value.

Obviously you would want to go to superb management situations (cleveland and charlotte lololololol) right
