What's new

Game 1: Jazz vs Spurs (July 17th)

It will be a travesty if trey, exum, or hood start over burks.

Burks is much better than all of them

Though I proposed starting Hood, it's tough to disagree with this.

Lindsey called Hood a guard/forward today during his in-game interview. I wonder if we'd go with a huge bench five of Exum-Hood-Novak-Booker-Gobert.

Though I proposed starting Hood

It's very tough to pick who to start this year. I could make an argument for Gobert-Kanter, though I think Favors is better than both. An argument for Burke-Hay-Hood, though benching a #5 pick phenom in this draft sounds plain whacky. Going Burks-Exum-Hayward, though Burks is likely better than Exum for at minimum 20 games...

In the end I've decided to stick with Snyder on who he starts and how he sets the balancing unit rotations. He deserves that much respect from us for at least one season. He has seen them practice, he is a genius by all accounts, and he should have a good feel of how to balance rotations and minutes.

Another interesting note was I could have sworn that Quin seemed rather sure of Exum and Burke being able to share the backcourt in recent interviews, and today he said he thinks they can. I may have confirmation bias, but he does seem a little less sure of their ability to co-exist on the court.

Burke doesn't share the court with anyone. Jacked up a team high 18 shots, most of them bricks. Need to get whatever we can out of him at the deadline, whether Exum is ready or not. Burke loses value every time he takes the court and shoots (28% today against scrubs).

I like Burke, but I don't know how well he fits with future plans. Too bad the Jazz didn't swing for the fences last year and draft Giannis. Could you imagine a lineup of Favors/Kanter/Gobert, Antetokounmpo, Hayward/Burks/Exum? That would be pretty sick. Milwaukee looks pretty good right about now. Would have loved to have that kid over Trey for sure.

As it is, he's cheap and capable. I'm hoping that Exum improves to the point of making it impossible to leave him on the bench. I realize that Burke won't be happy to take a backseat, but Exum has such a high ceiling that it's only a matter of time.

Not sure anyone would have known Giannis would be this good this fast.
I thought he would be overwhelmed by NBA play.
Thought he would be five years from good.
The Bucks taking him was worth the risk.
They have been terrible for a long time.

lol

you can call trey an inefficient shooter, but he isn't a volume shooter.

you really have no clue, do you? if you think what trey is doing is jacking up shots, then either you didn't watch the game or you just don't know how to watch the game.
I watched the game. I saw him miss several pull up jumpers. I saw him miss several 3-pt shots. He can hit lay-ups, and some quite difficult ones off the glass. He also has a decent floater. But ask him to shoot outside of 8-ft and he can't. I also saw him trying to play "hero ball," getting stuck and committing silly TO's. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe after his 12 point outburst in game 4, he is now shooting 30% overall and 14% from 3-PT range.

Was it just me or was Trey freezing out Exum a bit? I didn't see a pass to him, besides the one where he wasn't even looking, in the second half.
I got the same impression but Trey wasn't the only one. Clark seemed to do the same thing. He's been doing it for a couple of games.

It worse than that, someone counted 7 straight possessions where Exum never touched the ball.
Exum's been the funnest person to watch as long as he has the ball in his hands.

That is absolutely inexcusable for him to not even touch the ball for 7 straight possessions.

Weird post. He's playing against scrubs and he wasn't even that good. I can't find stats I don't want to go back, but i'd say he shot about 40% FGs, negative ast/to ratio, about 6 rebs. That's bad no matter who he's playing against, but considering the weak competition, the timing of your post is strange.

His last game was probably his best shooting the ball 8-13 FGs, but 0 assists, 6 TOs is an embarrassment. Also his team is currently 0-4. I love his potential, but let's be real, that is what it is at this point because his play has been underwhelming.

Dude's had some monster plays. I don't care if it's against scrubs when he explodes from the 3 point line and dunks in 3 steps. That will translate.

Agree. I watched the first game and he was dominant. Sure he's still raw. But is he shooting better than 30%/14% because that is what the #9 pick in last year's draft is doing.

He was a great pick. He is raw, but the potential is there. I'd rather have him than Burke. And I like Burke.
