What's new

Did Exum really say that???!!!???

Both you, and Hotnick, are seeing what you want to see. Exum had a negative assist to turnover ratio this SL. Burke had a positive ratio. Those crazy little things called facts.
LOL. Stats for summer league mean ****. Again it was Trey's 2nd summer league he should be head and shoulders ahead of a 19 year old who has not played in a while. Yet he wasn't. No way you can argue he was far superior. I can see he was maybe slightly better (though I don't think he was) But Burke should have outplayed him by a mile and didn't.

I'd like to see this play. Happen to remember what game or when in the game it was?

I remember the play. It was in transition and Burke beat two guys to the basket. Exam ran down and spotted up at the 3pt line. Trey was able to get to the basket for a layup instead. You could see Exum wanted the ball. However Trey made the right decision as he was able to get a good look at a layup.

Here's the play:

In transition Burke pushes the ball with the opposing PG slightly ahead. Clearly there are 2 other much taller defenders right in front of him going back but in good position to defend. Exum is set up to the right:

Burke now being well defended by 2 clearly bigger guys ready to contest the shot with the PG now trailing him. Exum is now set up on the 3pt line wide open seemingly calling for the shot and ready to shoot. Burke is either totally unaware of Exum or is just determined to score no matter what.

Burke going up for the layup against 2 much taller defenders. Hard to see from this angle whether it was a foul or whether it was all ball. Defender clearly disrupted Burke who was caught mid-air.

Burke falling to the ground - Exum is still wide open on the corner surely wondering why he didn't get the pass.

Whether or not Exum would have made that shot is irrelevant IMO. The correct play when you're going 1 on 3 with 2 big guys in good defensive position is to kick it out to the wide open guy with his feet set. Seems to me like not once during the play did Burke look to make the pass, he was hell bent on getting that shot off.

It's not just this play alone, but making that extra pass is what Quin wants EVERYONE in the team to get into a habit of - Burke as the starting PG should be setting an example for these guys, not doing the opposite.

This thread is irrelevant for at least this season.

Say that to Exum then:

"Hey bro - just keep those issues to yourself for at least 1 season, won't take long, we'll know soon enough if Burke should start at the PG or we should give it to you".

Don't like to overanalyze this, but watch how Burke's facial expressions and body language change when asked about Exum's statement about playing point and having the ball in his hands. He says all the right words, but.....

Yep, he definitely was uncomfortable answering that question.

To all those people thinking Burke will move aside and play backup to Exum (when he's ready) - it's NOT gonna happen.

Burke and Exum will work beautifully if Burke continues to improve his defense, and Exum improves his conditioning.

People will be guarding Burke to like 26 feet in late game situations, and Exum will collapse all defense whenever he drives.

God-DAYUM I'm excited for this season.

And it shouldn't happen. But if he gets beat out I expect him to move to back up and handle it with professionalism.
