Dick Bavetta retiring

The NBA was reportedly trying to nudge Dick Bavetta into retirement in 2010.
But the referee – famous for his race with Charles Barkley – returned and continued his stories career.
Four years later, Bavetta is apparently ready to hang ‘em up.

It’s fitting Bavetta reffed four years longer than the league wanted. It just helps preserve my memory him as stubborn.
But, for better or worse, he was also a character, and if he’s retiring, the NBA loses part of its personality.

...not soon enough to suit me! He cost the Jazz the championship with his bogus calls in game 6 when he gave the Bulls a 3 pointer that shouldn't have counted.....and took away a 3 pointer that the Jazz made that should have counted! Pathetic.

More realistically, he cost the Jazz a game 7 since the Jazz were already down 3-2.

Due is 72. I've thought he looked 80 10 years ago.

At 70 Greg Oden is now officially the oldest person on an NBA court.
