Child firing Uzi at Ariz. shooting range accidentally kills instructor

With this line of thinking, why even have laws or a government?

It always amazes me the "selective libertarianism" which exists so prevalently today. We look at some important things that most definitely impact all of society like guns or questionable business practices (ie inversion) there shouldn't be any regulation. yet maintain an unhealthy obsession to control lesser important aspects of other peoples' lives.

Amazing.

I have yet to meet a libertarian that actually followed their dogma even somewhat consistently. They're all pretty insincere and inconsistent with their actual practices.

it is better than FORCING.

acceptence is not something you can force.

reminds me of elementary school whenever 2 children fight. they where forced to apologize to eachother in front of class and shake hands.
funny thing is the majority of the time they where not sorry for what they did. so instead they gave a empty apology.

alll that teaches is that an apologyy is ********* and you can say it when u dont mean it.

dont force homosexual marriage on people. it wont mean **** and will be empty.

same with guns if i force a gun on you it will mean nothing to you and because of your ignorance and nonchalance concerning guns it will lead to accidents.

stay away from my freedom and guns.
then i stay away from your weed, booze(okay not staying away from your booze, wanna share a wishkey ofcourse) and your homosexual marriage. aka live and let live

tl;dr

...I have to assume they don't serve alcohol there and do not allow you to bring alcohol onto the premises. I would hope they also make it very clear that alcohol and firearms do not mix at all in any way.

I have always had very hard rules for myself related to firearms handling and alcohol. Basically, if I've had a sip I don't touch a gun. At all, period. Not to clean them, not to admire them, nothing...

...But my views on firearms are somewhat in flux. I still support gun rights, but I have been completely turned off by the pro-gun community and I absolutely do not feel that I am a part of that community any longer.

well, from the website of Bullets and Burgers https://bulletsandburgers.com/bachelor-bachelorette-parties

well, at least it's "after shooting" but so much for the separation of booze and bullets

and I imagine for something like this there is a high likelihood that there's been a bit of pre-gaming taking place

Bottom line - how can anyone think that the focus here is on the safe use and handling of firearms?

I'm pretty appalled that they have a bar at a shooting range. Hopefully this establishment is doomed after this tragic incident.

I just don't get the whole selective libertarian thing.

Nor don't I get the whole... "I wanna be free to buy whatever guns I want and shoot at paper targets at any age cuz that's tough!"

I grew up in a household that regarded guns as things that kill. Not recreational items or tools.

Anyone else grow up like this? So I mean, I've been out shooting with friends (only in my later years) and it's fun.
But at the same time, it has only reinforced my view that they aren't things to be player with.

That 9 year old shouldn't be "playing" with guns. She should be playing four square, tag, basketball, tennis, etc.

And the whole... Freedom and patriotism thing?

True freedom isn't being able to buy guns so the NRA can make a lot more money. Patriotism isn't shooting at paper targets. Fighting against some big government boogeyman zombieland future isn't the very real threat that is in our present day.

True freedom is having a well paying job. Being able to live your life without fear that the next layoff or the loss of benefits could mean losing your house.

True patriotism isn't standing by a group of racist welfare ranchers one day then cheerleading the killing of a black teenager and demeaning subsequent protests after.

The real threat to our country are things like corporate inversion, polluted air and water, a failing health care system, overburdened education system, insane foreign policy, lack of immigration reform, and the socialism that is being used to funnel money from the middle class into the pockets of the 1 percent.

Gun nuts, want to really exercise your 2nd amendment? Stop letting 9 year olds shoot Uzis and actually protest for some of these serious issues. 9 year olds should be playing with toys. While you, the "patriotic freedom loving American" should be protesting for a better America, not shooting at defenseless paper targets.

problem is when i need a car i wont die.

when i really need a gun it will be a life threatening situatoion and i might die
A car could save your life in certain situations too

Define "selective libertarianism"

I'm pretty sure I've explained it in a post above.

The number of self proclaimed libertarians who still demand that marriage is (only) between a man and a woman, weed should still be illegal, and call for US intervention at every foreign runny nose is mind blogging. There's a severe disconnect between "Libertarianism" and what its "followers" actually practice.

Hence, selective libertarianism.

So you had a different upbringing than others, and so their upbringing was wrong and yours was right. Interesting stance.

Some of us have grown past our upbringing and have formed our own opinions based on our own experiences. You oughta try it sometime. Thinking is actually kind of fun, once you break through the dogmatic approach to everything that makes life appear to be so easy.

I'm sorry I didn't explain better my own opinions. My childhood isn't the primary well from which I draw my personal opinions. I tried in the rest of my post to show that. Apparently I failed.

Freedom is doing what the **** YOU like, as long as you don't endanger other people (without their consent).

well i am still a liberatian.
cus imho mariage is between a man and woman. but hey you do whatever the **** you want and i do whatever the **** i want.
weed should not be illegal. anybody should be free to do weed, cocaine, heroine, meth heck if you feel like it try cyanide.
as for us intervention. i do call for that, because the mess in iraq is usa's doing. and those people have the right to live. they are actually hurting and murdering people

Debating whether or not this post even merits a response...

Is this really how far the discussion has devolved?

see thats where we differ.
sometimes it is neccesary to kill.
for example to eat a burger. you kill an animal.
for example to defend yourself you kill a human being.

killing is natural, and perfectly normal. one of those tools is a gun. so hence if killing is not wrong a gun is not wrong.

That's not the current debate, whether or not a hamburger or defending your house should be legal.
