What's new

Anybody want to question Sloan now??

You know who Jefferson was guarding, right?

Are you talking about Griffin or the #3 dunker in the league, Mr. Smarty McSmartpants?

Can we stop talking about Bozzer? Please?

...Great. Let's stop talking about Bozzer. His 3% body fat gives me a headache.

One little bumpkin reading about Boozer...
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
QUIT ****ING READING ABOUT BOOZER IF IT GIVES YOU A HEADACHE CAUSE THE REST OF US DON'T REALLY GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL ISSUES

There's a reason Sloan's been coaching in the league for longer than I've lived.
I can think of many reasons.
1. Frank Layden stepping down, and Sloan (including his hard-nosed reputation) being in the right place at the right time.
2. Stockton & Malone being self-motivated and probably wildly successful no matter the coach under whom they had played.
3. An owner (may he rest in peace) who was content with--and loyal to--letting ol' Jer accomplish above-average performance (Who says I don't give Sloan props? ;)), even when the team had the potential to do better and despite never garnering even one ring (the Jordan excuse goes only so far, and he didn't play in the league for 20 years). 41-41 seasons were the exception, not the rule.
4. An owner's son continuing the owner's legacy, including a tolerance--conscious or unconscious--of Sloan's disenfranchisement & underdevelopment of role players who could help the team. To Sloan's credit (Wow! Another compliment coming!), JS is more subtle about his inequitable and suboptimal treatment of players (based on performance) than he was in years past.

I agree but to give him his due, I would add that he IS a very very good coach with a great offensive system. He is not a championship caliber coach however, for the reasons we would both agree on.

There's a reason Sloan is coaching in the NBA and IGS is not.
1. Since when is preparing yourself for an opportunity a negative?
2. Both Stockton and Malone give Jerry a ton of credit for their success. Saying that they would have been successful anywhere under any old coach is pure speculation, and probably incorrect.
3. The Jazz under Sloan have consistently performed above expectations.
4. You honestly believe that the owner's son should have canned Sloan based on his performance since Larry died?
5. This one I'll give you.

Hey Sloanfeld, where are ya man?? No doubt you won't make your regular cameo appearance tonight I'm sure...

By the way... Jefferson had 31 points and 3 blocks... Boozer hasn't had 3 blocks in 1 month let alone 1 night!

And how about the master sticking with Gordon Hayward??... When this kid gets his shot going it looks pretty... So pretty... Maybe that "gut feeling" wasn't so foolish after all. At least he isn't letting the kid rot on the bench...

But I guess that's why Jerry Sloan has coached in this league for 2 decades and guys like Sloanfeld sit at home, with his hands down his pants, eyeing the computer, wondering if it is wise to post on a night like tonight for fear of being exposed for what he really is... A clueless, bitter fan...

I'll wait for your retort...

My Retort:
AK & CJ were inactive, thus Hayward's minutes
Sometimes its a black-hole when Jefferson gets it in the low-post (btw, i hate his 'up-fakes'!!)
Boozer is a beast on the boards & both Paul/Al have been horrendous on the boards (btw, i dont want to defend Boozer but he does get those steals/strips)
No props to FES !?!?!

I'm sure that a lot of good defensive teams had Griffin dunking on them all night long... This kid is beyond awesome... He's been compared to Karl Malone, but I think this kid is a lot better of a young player than Malone ever was, with some of the same issues... Perimeter shooting and free throw shooting... And if he ever figures that out, Malone will be an afterthought 10 more years down the road, if the kid can be as durable...

But the thing I look at is... 2 of Jeffersons 3 blocks came in crunch time down the stretch when the Jazz needed defensive stops... Not to mention, he's a clutch player... Does next to nothing in the 1st half and then catches fire and plays BIG down the stretch...

These are the kinds of players that championship teams are made of...

I think Shawn Kemp is a decent comparison in terms of physical tools. But Griffin is a smarter, more mentally tough player.

You know what Sloanfeld?? I may owe you an apology... I think I've confused you with InGameStrategy... And seriously for that I'm sorry..

It's the damn footer in your post... It screams Sloan hater... Sorry, I didn't mean to profile you by signature...

My bad...

Ok, thanks for manning up and admitting it. I was going to say, my username wouldn't be Sloanfeld if I didn't like Sloan.

There's a reason Sloan is coaching in the NBA and IGS is not.
Yep. Sloan paid the price; I didn't. He played in the NBA (I didn't and don't likely have the talent for that), was a coach briefly in the D-league, and was a scout for the Jazz. Even then, there was some luck involved, which is what I was referring to.

1. Since when is preparing yourself for an opportunity a negative?
It's not. I know it might be reflexive for you to think that everything I say about Sloan is a criticism, but not everything is.

2. Both Stockton and Malone give Jerry a ton of credit for their success. Saying that they would have been successful anywhere under any old coach is pure speculation, and probably incorrect.
I think Franklin answered this point at least as well as I could.

3. The Jazz under Sloan have consistently performed above expectations.
OK? And? I said that he was an above-average coach. He's also good at keeping expectations in check.

4. You honestly believe that the owner's son should have canned Sloan based on his performance since Larry died?
I think that my analysis (over years) of Sloan's substitution patterns, suboptimal handling of personnel, etc., plus my mention of the availability of Rick Carlisle, Tom Thibodeau, and others in recent years, helps to answer that question for you.

Rick Carlisle and Thibodeau- let them accomplish something as head coaches and then you can talk about replacing Sloan with them. Carlisle took a team loaded with talent last year and couldnt even get past the first round, despite having homecourt and the 2nd seed. Whereas we, missing 2 key players, defeated the Nuggets without homecourt. Yeah right, Carlisle is the surefire replacement for Sloan.

You can ask any knowledgable NBA fan or even GM's/players and they will tell you that the only coaches amongst the current ones they will rather take over Sloan, if at all, are Phil Jackson and Popovich. Thats about it. Being the 3rd or 4th best coach in the league is'nt that bad you know. Except if you are a hater or just a plain nitpicker.

Yes. Sloan is a dinosaur who will never win anything close to a championship. Ever.

IGS is, once again, killing it in this thread. It's hard to argue against results. Sloan has been a good coach over the years...but only the great ones win championships.

I want to know if he thinks about life being like a box of chocolates when he is driving his tractor. I also wonder if he ever has flies or birds or whatever fly into his mouth. Along those same lines, is his tie absorbant enough for drainage? Does he ever go out and stare at the statues of Karl and John and cry silent tears?

That's all I have to say about that.
