I love that part of his game too. He sets great picks. Sometimes it feels like half of his screens should be counted as assists, cause they give his teammates such advantage over their defenders and creates huge opportunities for open shots or drives to the basket.

He has really ramped this part of his game up. He frees up one guy after another. It demonstrates a very unselfish offensive attitude. He seems to love playing his role.

I have a feeling that you did not see the game. Even if your apparent assumption that was playing above his real abilities is true, can you imagine what this victory has done for his confidence? Spain was thought to have a huge advantage in the front court. Down the stretch, Gobert single-handedly neutralized that.
 
Spain all your boards belong to Gobert, what a sick block too...I hope the French at least get a medal, GO Gobert!
 
Hmmm...I wonder if Lowe still thinks Gobert's best value to Utah may be as a trading chip? Sure, it's only one game, but as Donuts said, it HAS to be a tremendous confidence builder for Gobert. Favors better increase his range because Rudy is going to start demanding PT at the 5.
 
I just liked how active and aggressive he was on the boards. He was ripping down rebounds in traffic over huge dudes.

You could definitely tell his presence on offense was a negative though. It will be hard to play him and Favors together and have good floor spacing.

Agree. Right now I see Kanter/Favors starting and Gobert being used with Booker or Novak at the 4 and Hood at the 3. That would give the Jazz decent shooting to go along with Rudy's dominant inside presence.

Guess you didn't watch the game. Spain could not get to the rim because of Gobert and both Gasols had trouble scoring because of him. They are not D-Leaguers; they are two of the best big men in the game. And he is only just developing as a player. The play-by-play analyst said he was the game's MVP, and he wasn't French, he was American. It's going to be difficult not to start him if he continues to improve like he has.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if Kanter and Gobert are fairly equal.

Gobert has a ton of potential on defense, but is pretty much limited to clean up duty on offense, and he struggles at that.

Kanter has a lot of potential on offense, but struggles with pretty much every aspect of defense.
 
That potential is already being realized. Wait'll he gets stronger, he is going to be a beast. His hands looked pretty good today, snagging passes, rebounds, tipped balls, dunking with authority. How many people watched the game today? If you haven't you need to see it, especially the second half.
 
I will gladly pimp myself as much as I can on this forum if anyone can produce the entire fourth quarter of this game (likes, rep points, a heartfelt reply extolling the virtues of the respective provider, my vote for an important bill). I enjoy watching Rudy as much as anyone on the team and couldn't watch the game live. I beseech you most fervently!

Yeah, I saw the entire 2nd half he played.

You could still tell the offense was much less fluid with him in the game.

I will get really excited when he is catching slightly difficult interior passes in traffic and finishing quickly.

Think he is definitely going to do work on the bench, but I still think his offense is too far behind, until he can finish stronger and not turn it over as much down low, to be a starter.

And the thought of the offensive spacing with him and Favors on the floor is mind numbing.

That's why I think DL will tank it "1 more year" and grab Karl Towns.


Gobert & Towns is a perfect match made in heaven.

Towns
Hood
Hayward / Burks
Exum / Burke

That's a line up I can get excited about.

His offense surely is raw but you got to give him 30 minutes to develop it. He literally owned the boards today and that was against as good a big man line-up as he will see in the NBA. He wasn't giving ground to Marc Gasol either, and that guy is as strong as they come. He also was catching some fairly difficult passes and getting his hands on richochets off the rim that were anything but easy to handle. I think you might be underestimating what he can bring this year.
 
Anyone put up in game Gobert footage? = Instant REP:)

If Gobert does not start he will be a spark in the second Unit and on the court in fourth
