2014 College Football

LDS kid picks USC more often then BYU now, and probably does so in the future.

What say ye, BYU fans? Am I crazy...on this?

False. BYU won 3 out of 4 recruiting battles with SC just this year in fact; Fred Warner, Nick Kurtz, Uriah Leiataua. Damien Mama to USC. And you could probably throw Harvey Langi in there too since USC did gauge his interest level this summer. So 4 for 5.

Lol @ Langi. Nice. He comes home, finds out he is the fifth string RB at Utah and transfered. Good for him. I hope he excels at BYU. He is a great kid.

You want a crazy stat? Wilson has played 4 quarters this year, the equivalent of one game. His offense, in 4 quarters has out up 700 yards and 68 points. In 60 mins of playing time. Yeah, it's not the best competition, but that pretty incredible. Hill has never put up 700 yards and 70 points in 4 consecutive quarters played. Wilson came close last year. Between Weber State and the first half of Oregon St, the offense he led had 602 yards and 59 points. Again, Hill has never done that.

Hill is a very impressive college QB. He's no Wilson. That being said, enjoy Hill. He is fun to watch.

I'd just point out that it's way too early to say anything for sure at this point in the season. We can talk about the possibility and probability of things occurring later like undefeated seasons, bowl game opportunities, and Heisman trophies. Comparing stats between two Quarterbacks with a pint-sized sample (two games) and a Han-river-wide discrepancy between the type of opponents faced is a waste of time and proves nothing.

I'm excited that both teams have started their season well and actually kind of relieved they aren't facing each other since --> BYU fan. We'll see how things go and then revisit the QB situation. Also, no matter how well BYU does this year, I won't be willing to believe they are capable of beating the Utes until they actually do it. And Convincingly.

One more thing: Could the mods, like, change this thread from a "Week 2 college football" thread to a "2014 College Football" thread. I just thought it might be better to save clutter and what not. Do I need to send a PM to somebody? If not tho, it's cool.

Seems like a good idea.

For those saying BYU couldn't hang in a Big 5 conference: Last year BYU had #49 strength of schedule. https://www.fbschedules.com/2013/07/phil-steele-2013-college-football-strength-of-schedule-rankings/

There are 66 Big 5 teams (including Notre Dame). Therefore BYU had a stronger schedule than 25% of all Big 5 teams. Or, roughly speaking, if BYU were in a Big 5 conference, in 25% of the years they would have an easier schedule than they had last year.

Yes, the Utes had a far harder schedule. That's beside the point as 25% of all Big 5 teams had easier schedules.

Lol @ Langi... Finds out he is 5th string RB at Utah so he transfers to a school where he is still.... 5th string RB. Promptly switches to defense.

Probably be starting at linebacker at utah tbh

He'd have a shot. We need LB's.

Since this now a general college FB thread, some big games this weekend:

Nebraska vs Fresno St. If Fresno St wins, we look a lot better.
Michigan vs Miami (not that Miami). See how Michigan comes out.
UCLA vs Texas. Good yardstick on UCLA and Texas.
Georgia vs South Carolina - Georgia's RB is unreal. Eyecandy.
USC vs BC - cross country rivalry game.
ASU vs Colorado - first decent competition for both teams
Arizona vs Nevada - how good is Nevada, how bad is WSU?

Colorado lost to colorado state........ in a blowout btw. Then squeaked out a 3 point win against massachussetts. (no idea how to spell it lol)
ASU will have to wait for its first taste of decent competition

Yeah. You're right. I strongly dislike ASU and want Colorado to beat them. Ha ha. Sick of hearing about ASU.

It's game day and I'm not seeing enough byu swag out roaming the streets. That **** about byu fans being too cheap to financially support their team is true, and it pisses me off because swag co's don't even bother spending time making rad byu ****.

I spend about $200/year on swag, but I have to hunt so hard to find **** that looks cool and is worthwhile. buuuut you bet your dulces nalgas (for you Spanish speakers) I'm all swagged out today.

What is expected from BYU tonight? A Fresno St level beat down? Bored by halftime?

According to Sagarin, BYU is #16, with a rating of 85.64. Houston is #92, with a rating of 65.12. That means BYU is favored by 85.64 - 65.12 = 20.52 points on a neutral field. Add in 3.51 for the home advantage, and it should be a 24 point blow out.

The season is still young so those numbers are still much in flux, but I'd be shocked if it were any closer than about 10 points. And definitely wouldn't pick Houston to win.

Show me where Hill has been a better QB. Please. Do. And a 78% completion to your RB's...eh. Not impressed.

I haven't seen enough of Wilson to comment on him-- hard to get the PAC12 network in Houston.

Here a few observations on Hill:
He is a great running back. He has breakaway speed. Enough agility and mobility to get to the right holes and enough power to bowl people over.

On his passing, this season his vision is much improved. He is seeing his options quickly and taking the highest percentage one. Last year he zeroed in on Hoffman and threw him the ball no matter what the coverage was. I think that the was source of longer throws and more incompletions/interceptions.

In the 2nd half against texas Hill zeroed in on Leslie, the UTEP transfer. I am curious if that will continue.

The last factor in his changes is that our O-Line has played much, much better so far this year. The talent was so bad last year we are starting two true freshman at center and left tackle--the two most important positions on the line.

The water cooler consensus is 40-14 with some UH fans.
