What's new

2014 College Football

Just busting your balls, monica.

Bulldogs are pretty mediocre though, right? What are the expectations for the season?

Our offense looks great.

Our run defense looks great.

We just can't cover down field. Luckily the SEC isn't a strong passing league for the most part, so it's something you can get away with.

I honestly expect us to beat LSU next week.

I don't. You know how many teams expect to win @ LSU? Zero.

I think I remember watching MSU play Alabama like three years ago. They looked like they had some athletes on the defense side of the ball, but their offense was pitiful. Good to hear the offense is better.

Like the nice guy I am, I will pull for your Bulldogs throughout the season.

I missed that. What happened?

UCLA won the toss. They deferred to the second half. The ref asked Texas what they wanted to do. The Texas player said, "defense." The ref turned off his mike, looked like he explained what Texas was choosing and the Texas player stayed with defense. So Texas kicked off to UCLA to start the game and again at halftime. Lol.

Haha, nice. I can't believe that's actually allowable at all though. Seems like you're doing this the first half, so you'll be doing this at the start of the second should be set in stone. Double kick is not an option.

It would have been nice to see Tejas pull that win out of their collective asses. Could've made our win look better. Omg I'm so dizzy tonight, what's wrong with me?

How did a guy like that get eligible to play college ball?

A lot on the line for Jazzfanz in the Kentucky/Florida game. PKM actually made a few Kentucky football posts this year.....might not hear anything else about them if that doesn't go well.

I was into it. 28years without a win against UF.. and we play them EVERY year. :(

Loved that we took them to 3 OT's, though. All I've got is moral victories.

Looks like BYU's 8 pt win didn't hurt them in the polls.

New rankings are #21 (AP), #23 (USA Today), and #17 (ESPN).
https://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings

So, I've bagged on BYU a lot. I've felt that they don't deserve to be ranked. Well, I was bored today and decided to rank all the teams by the new standards. SOS, common opponents, conference championships, etc. Here is what I came up with:

1 - UCLA
2 - ND
3 - Texas A&M
4 - Penn St
5 - Pittsburgh
6 - BYU
7 - ASU
8 - Kansas State
9 - Alabama
10 - Ole Miss
11 - LSU
12 - FSU
13 - Oklahoma
14 - Florida
15 - TCU
16 - Oregon
17 - Duke
18 - Washington
19 - Auburn
20 - South Carolina
21 - Rutgers
22 - Boston College
23 - West Virginia
24 - East Carolina
25 - USC

Pretty interesting. BYU came in at #6. I put my reasons here:

It's sad how pathetic the schedules are to start the year.

lol what is this?

Nobody will be buying on this ranking method

Good job, though. It will be interesting to see how it works as the year progresses, but I don't think it will end up being that great of a system.

Byu win was very ugly.... however they had 3 days to prepare (Monday Tuesday Wednesday) they had tons of penalties (becoming a problem) they had a player ejected, lost the turnover battle 3-0, and were ripe to have a letdown after thier (likely) biggest game of the year.
And they were missing thier best defensive player.

Still won. I will take it.

Hill still needs to improve on his passing a lot

They are supposed to pretty good, according to all the crackheads whose job is to overanalyze college football so maybe that moral victory will mean something at the end of the year. But for now, we can join in our hatred of the Florida Gators. That was a Florida Sr. year transfer/cast off that was running wild at QB for Boston College on Saturday against USC. Guy can't throw a lick, but man he's super fast if he gets behind the first line of defense. Burner.

Huge game for Utah and BYU. Utah's next big hurdle is winning on the road. Michigan is beatable. Michigan gives the ball up a lot but Utah hasn't taken the ball away since 2009. If Utah gets TO's they win big. If they don't, it will be a close game.

This might be BYU's last low able game. Virginia looks a lot better this year and BYU always struggles with speed.

As far as Utah State...well...let's be honest. No one cares.

Big weekend. For Utah teams.

Yeah, Taysom Hill a poor man's Dak. Dak thrives in the redzone and gets TD's. Taysom shrinks.

So far byu has had 14 redzone opportunities. scored 13 times (10 touchdowns, 3 field goals)

This was the most disappointing thing to me. I'd be happy if he can just consistently hit the open guy. Nothing fancy required. Judging from the first two games, I really thought he had turned that corner. But in this game there were probably ~4 throws to open guys that Hill just missed. Frustrating, especially because so much else about his game is amazing.
