Burning Man Festival - Did anyone go? How was it?

I've been before. Unless you are using mind-altering substances it is generally just dusty and sweaty and smelly and boring as hell.

I haven't been. Then again I'm not into molly and ex, so that makes sense.

But I have to say after a few days it gets interesting watching all the nutjobs acting out. And there is a decent amount of nudity, although a decent amount of that is the kind you wish you never saw. You can only burn your eyes out of your head so many times.

Talked to some hot Brazilian the other day who had attended, but it sounds like too many hippies w/ guitars for my liking.

Surprised you went, you sounded like somebody who would avoid these festivals like the plague.

You must not have been paying attention very well. I have had several infractions for posting pics of people with too much nudity for some (*cough* colton *cough*) people and I am WAY in favor of legalizing marijuana so I can get my medical card.

I really wanted to post a video of the highlights of the festival but I was sure I would have gotten an infraction for it.

Damn it!!!!

Post it on the qsh forum and take your chances.

I have gone a few times and love it.

Drugs are there but not a big part of it. There is tons of stuff to do that is fun. The best art collection anywhere in the world and some of the coolest stuff gets burned down. Lots of radical self expression. There is lots of nudity and people dressing how they want.

But it sucks and you should never go.

Seems like one of those things that would be really cool to try at least once.

Really fustrating that I can't post this really cool video I found of the event and share it. There is partial nudity that lasts only for a split second that's preventing me from posting.... (bare bottoms).

I know how strict the mods are here so I won't risk it.

Not Burning Man, but they had a big Rainbow Family hippie campout in Utah this summer and I stopped by for a few hours to see what the hell they were doing since I was up in Park City for a few days at the time . I played a game of kickball with them and then took off because they were all being super weird and kept accusing me of being some undercover law enforcement guy.

Those people were super weird and broke lots of laws.

Burning man is not really a bunch of aimless hippies.

Here is a decent article about it from a conservative point of view.

Its kind of a burning man joke. It is a unique place and it is getting more and more attention which is partially unwanted. Tickets sell out within minutes now to 60,000 people so its not like burning man needs more people who want to go.

BTW for some reason Australia is the most represented country outside of USA at burning man.

Funny you said that, the first time I saw the Burning Man's footage it reminded me of the feeling I got from Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet - it has that kind of out of this word experience/feel to it. A world where anything goes, anything's possible, everyday's a party and the party never stops.

Luhrmann's an Australian.

This is the man who fled from the notion of two happy women conspiring to be supported by one man, with perhaps a lot of extra disgressionary funds coming from their own work. . . . traveling the world on their little vacations while Log stays home and manages the logistics of it all. . . . .

So I agree, I'm surprised he took the time of day to drive two hours out into the desert to look at a paen to dissolution, dissipation, and diarrhea. well, and drugs. Deadbeat Dad Central.

a great link.

I had an out-of-the-body spiritual experience reading this bit:

My wife and I had planned to join the “event” in 2012, but some idiot scheduled the Republican National Convention in Tampa for the same week. I objected, but the overlapping bit of the Venn diagram of Burners and Mitt Romney enthusiasts was perhaps not as large as I had thought.

I remember venn diagrams, and never in my mortal experience imagined anyone applying that technique to this question.

I wanst planning to go this year but I got FOMO and bought a ticket today. Guess I am heading off next week for 12 days in the desert.

Our camp location is great this year so I am excited. As entertaining as it was to camp next to the Orgy Dome I am glad they are not our neighbors this year. They were between us and the bathrooms so it was at least flattering that half the time I had to take a **** I got invited to join a group.
