2014 College Football

Great weekend for college football.
Almost half of the top 25 lost
Half of the top 10 did lose
Utah beat another top 10 team
And BYU's season is now over. (Because they lost not because of their QB, feel sorry for Hill actually)
.
Couldn't have been much better.
.
Hopefully this season shows the NCAA why 4 playoff teams is not enough. Nobody right now can pick who the 4 best teams in the country are, not and feel that they are picking the end of season 4.

Conner Halliday threw for 734 yards and WSU still lost to Cal. That's unreal.

So let's see if I've got this right:

-Utah can't beat WSU at home, but Cal can after allowing over 700 yards passing, and the Utes can go on the road and beat #8 UCLA?

-ASU gets dumptrucked by the Bruins at home, only to go on the road next week and beat USC, while UCLA returns to the Rose Bowl and loses to a team that couldn't beat Wazzu?

The PAC is Wacky.

That is what happens when a conference actually has competitive teams from 1-12. Top to bottom the Pac 12 is the most balanced conference in the NCAA. While also being the 2nd best Conference overall.

I did not see that coming. 6 total pac 12 teams in the top 25. And 2 more in the others receiving votes.

It makes sense given the parity in the conference.

I can see the pac 12 lobbying to expand the playoff to 8 teams. Zona is the only team in the top ten.

If the champion of the 2nd best conference doesn't make the playoff and a team like Florida State who does not play a single team as good as the lower half of the pac 12 does then there is a problem. Hell even Michigan state lost to a Pac12 team that has fared far worse in their few pac12 games so far. So how is winning a pathetic Big 10 better than winning the pac 12 even with 2-3 losses?

It's crazy what a week can do.

Last week, BYU was ranked and looked to be cruising to an undefeated season. Now they have no Hill, no defense, and no chance for any other bowl not named "South Beach".

Utah was coming of a heartbreaking loss with #8 UCLA looming. Now they're ranked, Thompson MIGHT be the answer at QB and all of a sudden, the remaining teams on Utah's schedule don't look so daunting.

Just looked it up the pac12 is 6-2 against other big 5 conferences only the SEC at 5-2 has a winning record besides the Pac. This was only through the 1st few weeks could not find anything current.

Also I was wrong about Florida State they still have a game against Notre Dame. If they win that game it will be the only win against a team as good as middle of the road pac 12 teams.

I still think Utah is lacking a clear full time QB. As ****ty as it is to run a 2 Qb system I don't think the Utes have a choice. They can't be afraid to pull either one at any time if the D gets their number. There was still some questionable offensive play calling as well. Christensen needs to figure out how to spread the field a little better. The upside is that the utes off line should help them get better QB recruits going forward.

The schedule still looks pretty daunting imo. We knocked off Stanford last year and then went on a losing streak. If the offense can learn to be a little more flexible I think it could be a good year. If they can't effectively manage in game adjustment then it won't be.

Big12 is superior to the Pac12

Damn, MSU is now ranked 3rd. Next week is going to be 3rd vs 2nd with the MSU vs. Auburn matchup. Crazy, whoever wins that could end up being ranked #1 if FSU loses.

Not as a conference.

Sorry Byu fans but Texas would be competing with Colorado for the basement of the pac 12 this year. The Big 12 is great up top but the rest is garbage.
I'm not a BYU fan. Just a college football connoisseur. And I didn't say Texas was good, just that the Big 12 is superior to the PAC 12.

Not as a conference? How can a conference be something other than a conference.

Not sure why you choose West Virginia, they actually have some playmakers. Why not talk about Kansas who is the worst power 5 team by a wide margin?

Arizona and Notre Dame are the clear top 10 pretenders to me. Arizona has been on the ropes every game and Notre Dame has only played one team with a winning record, Stanford, and the only thing games with them really ever tell you are that your offensive/defensive lines are probably pretty solid if you take them down or hang around.

Texas is a middle of the road big 12 team. You could say that Baylor was better than any team in the pac 12 but I don't think you can say that the Big 12 as a whole is better than the pac.

I choose West Virginia cuz they were invited to the Big 12 recently an invite that BYU, despite the hints, hasn't received. Then I removed them so as to not be too mean. I didn't think I needed to point out that Kansas sux.

We're both right. This is a pointless discussion. But thinking the PAC should get a team in the playoff because of the awesome derpth they have is kinda flawed. They don't have any teams good enough to make it.

Pretty sure that we are in perfect agreement.
