What's new

Top TV Shows of 2010

Always Sunny had 2 or 3 very funny episodes this season - the rest were so-so to sucky.

Boardwalk Empire was excellent

Walking Dead started of great and then took a nose-dive

Sons of Anarchy Season 3 was a huge disappointment

Family Guy has already churned out 2 of its worst episodes ever this season.

That's about all the TV I watch.

The best show of 2010 is the only one I consistently watched; Treme. And that's not really debatable.

I watched one episode of Mad Men, it was alright I guess.

I've heard Breaking Bad is the ****, but I missed that boat years ago and I'm not getting on now. Even though I know the show is good, crystal-methamphetamine, as subject matter, irritates me.

I was initially intrigued by Boardwalk Empire, but I heard it sucks and I'll never watch it. That whole theme is played the **** out anyways.

Caught many eps of both Top Chef and Project Runway. I playfully feigned not enjoying the latter in order to save face in front of my then girlfriend, but I thought both were pretty good shows. Still, I haven't seen a reality show yet that's matched the genius that was E!'s short-lived but excellent Filthy Rich Cattle Drive.

Louie on FX was dark and hilarious and woefully under-appreciated.

I'm a huge fan of Curb Your Enthusiasm, but I'm saddened by its syndication. That show doesn't translate to 22 minutes and dialogue editing, in the slightest.

It's great to have Conan back on TV. I still hope Jay Leno dies.

And family sitcoms via the broadcast networks are not worth watching, ever.

Breaking Bad was absurdly good. It would take my prize as best overall television show.

Mad Men remained consistently excellent.

Outside of Breaking Bad (which has such a high quality standard it's almost unfair to compare it to anything else), the single best episode of television I saw this year was the Season Finale of "The Big C," which passed the George Bailey Memorial test of actually making me get a little emotional. Unfortunately that was a show with a great premiere and fantastic penultimate and final episodes with a whole lot of crap in between.

Finally among dramas I find "Parenthood" to be addictively watchable.

Among soft news shows I became a devotee of "Real Time with Bill Mahrer" this year; but completely understand that he's not for everyone.

I continue to believe that "Community" is the best pure comedy presently on the air. "Modern Family" is good but is strictly in "The Office" mold, both in terms of format and storytelling strategies. "Community" is the only broadcast television show willing to test the pure boundaries of what should be possible to expect from its audience. Among comedies that no one talks about, I find "Raising Hope" to be surprisingly consistently strong.

Other than that, a handful of random comments:

Best Show that Should Have Been Better: Boardwalk Empire

Most Disappointing: Running Wilde

Show that Most Butchered its Source Material: Walking Dead

Show on its Last Legs: 30 Rock

Shows that are on Whatever Follows the Last Legs: Entourage, The Simpsons

Show I am Most Embarrassed I Watched: The Hard Times of RJ Berger

Hit Show I Will Never Understand: Glee

Really don't have a lot of time for TV, but I was able to work in Justified and Southland. I think those are pretty good. Other then that my TV watching is relegated to Sportscenter, re-runs of Gangland and To Catch a Predator, and MSNBC Specials (Inside Cocaine Subs, Inside a Crack House, etc...)

I don't watch a lot of TV but there are a few that I try not to miss.

Breaking Bad
Sons of Anarchy
Smallville (a guilty pleasure of mine both because I like Superman and because my daughter and I have watched every single episode together since its inception)

It seems like most TV series start out strong and progressively get worse with every passing season. I've seen a bit of a drop off in SOA but not much and BB has just been consistently good. Some shows like True Blood, start off great and just go to crap the following year. Season 2 was so bad I haven't even bothered watching beyond year 2.

Shows like Sunny and The League are funny the first few episodes but you soon realize that it is nothing more than repetitive potty humor catering to the lowest common factor. I'll watch each from time to time but it always seems like I have already watched this episode because nothing ever changes. Sure they are funny but watching a couple of episodes each season is enough to get my fill. Especially Sunny.

I've given up on reality shows. The only one that even slightly piques my interest anymore is The Apprentice. And that's only because I watch these buffoons, which will end up working for Trump making big bucks, run around making horrendous decisions throughout the show. I'm thouroughly convinced that landing a big money job is not about what you know but rather who you know and impressing the right person. Hell, even our local insurance saleman here at Jazz Fanz could outcompete some of these nitwits that are supposed to be amongst the brightest young professionals in the US (no offense Trout :) ).

I'm ready to pull the plug on cable/dish and go strictly with Netflix and Hulu. I should save hundreds of dollars each year.

Balli watches Project Runway? HA!

Ash and I watch it too. It's actually pretty damn good. Staring at Heidi all episode doesn't hurt either. MAKE IT WORK!

I think the Amazing Race is pretty cool. I've definitely added a few places that I want to go based on what I saw on that show.

Looking at my Tivo "Season Pass Manager", we have:

Fiction
Psych
Chuck
Leverage
House
NCIS
Doctor Who
White Collar
Law & Order
Law & Order SVU
Law & Order UK
Law & Order LA
Glee
Warehouse 13
Special Unit 2

Non-fiction
Mythbusters
America's Funniest Home Videos

Reality
Amazing Race
Pawn Stars
American Idol
The Sing-Off
Undercover Boss
Chopped

I am with you on Psyche, Chuck, and your non-fiction and reality list.
I also have to add the new Hawaii five-o, and Survivor.

For some reason I can't stop watching Survivor... it reminds me of Jazzfanz too much with all the bickering, fighting, and backstabbing. Good stuff.

Yeah... I'm not really ashamed. It's a well made show and Tim Gunn seems like a genuine and kind person. And while Heidi is gorgeous, what really makes her hot is how angry she seemingly is. I love a hot and pissed-off woman.

Some of my other guilty pleasures are Shear Genius, Tabitha's Salon Takeover, and Auction Kings.

As far as reality TV is concerned I watch some of the "Lock-Up" series on MSNBC.

Keeps me on straight and narrow.

You are slowly turning into a woman. You have the thunder thighs and the breasts...I wonder when you start menstruating.

I've only seen two episodes of this and thought both were absolutely riveting.

I smell your sarcasm from here, it doesn't phase me though. There is something about a butch lesbian who kicks *** and scares everyone she looks at that really does it for me.
