Will Hood be starting?

Oh hantlers this gonna get ugly real soon :D Thanks for taking the flak that otherwise would have went my way.

I'm really interested how Burks will develop. But playing S5 will mean less attempts for him.

I noticed he's the starter tonight and I think he was last game too. Admittedly, I haven't been paying too much attention to the Jazz as I've been busy with life but has Quin stated Hood's the starter?

I feel like Burks lovers would be in an uproar. Heck, I want to see what Burks can do in 32 minutes a night. But taking everything into consideration, I think I like it a lot. It will take pressure off of Exum as the ball handler with our second unit. He'll still hopefully be the point guard but considering his handle needs some work, having Burks there with him should help when people press him and such. In short, he can play the point and be the lead guard but also play off at times with Burks shouldering some of the lead role here or there. I also think Hood is more of a glue guy, spread the floor starter type, something Burks isn't. That's no knock on Burks. I just feel like Hood fits better and fills that role of d and three glue guy better. Moreover, starting Hood allows Hayward to go back to the 2 which I personally feel is his better position.

But will Hood even be the starter?

I 100% disagree with this post. Hayward should not start at the 2. Exum needs Haywards help not necessarily Burks. I think we will see quin run the rotations so that exum does play a lot of his time with Hayward. Hood also complements Exum's game well. A Burks and Exum back court would have defenses just clog the lane. 2 penetrators whos shooting isn't where it needs to be. Lastly Burks is a good fit for Burke and Hayward. He is going to draw an athletic quick defender which will give the other 2 better matchups.

Burks deserved his minutes with his play throughout last season. Give him 32+ minutes all year, nothing less even if he struggles. Does not matter if he comes off the bench or starts. Let him play and we'll have our final conclusion.

Hood looks NBA-ready. He knows the game of basketball already. I don't mind if he starts but he is a SF, not SG. He can't be an alternative to the starting SG spot which belongs to Burks at this point. But Hayward can. Ice Trey - Hayward - Hood, with Burks as the sixth-man may work? Probably. But Hayward with his stronger body will be better at the 3. So we have two starting caliber SFs.

Trey (35) - Burks (33) - Hayward (36) - Kanter (30) - Favors (36)
Gobert (20) - Hood (20) - Booker (10)- Exum (20)

Trey (35) - Burks (33) - Hayward (36) - BIG AL (40) - Favors (30) Gobert (14) - Hood (20) - Booker (12)- Exum (20)

:(

Just have to tell Burks he's Manu Ginobili.

I think Alec will want to start...that's the best way for him to build his value in a contract year so he's not going to be happy as a 6th man. Unless, he gets an extension. Then I'd like to see him come off the bench. As mentioned, playing Burks with Exum takes pressure of the rookie. Also gives Alec more freedom to score.

Ultimately, I see the Jazz signing a FA who gets released from a contender. That old guy from Australia looked pretty solid in international competition. Joe Ingels or something like that.

Does anyone know how Paul's brother is doing? I hear he's pretty feisty. Could be a good pick up if others are cut or traded.

I called it. #IamChadFord

I don't think anybody has been harsher on Hood's defense than I have...so yeah, I know his defense isn't good. Just saying Burks is not good either (but still better than Hood).

As for floor spacing, there's a lot of merit to our overall team play being better with Hood as a starter (with limited minutes), at least until Burks starts to actually shoot 3's. If Burks starts to shoot (and make) 3's, then there's obviously no problem.

Burks was shooting 38% from 3 this season before being injured. Basically the same as Gordon Hayward. His shooting has improved.

Sorry, I didn't see when you posted that. So assuming Burks comes back from his injury and his 3 point shot hasn't diminished, what role do you see for him?

Depends who we have on our roster. Could be a dynamite 6th man, could be a solid starting player. I think we overpaid for him, but he's a good player. Really needs to improve his defense. His shot was definitely starting to click, and hopefully his troubles finishing at the rim were because of his shoulder injury.
