What's new

2014 College Football

I think the last 2 drives show that a lot of the offensive struggles this year cam be attributed to an overly cautious Christensen. The last play of the second to last drive I was screaming at my TV. He had called a really good game imo other than that set.

I just got home as well. Holy **** what a game! When it looked like the game was lost, it felt extra bitter because it really was about what Utah failed to do (2 fumbles on the 1 yard line) as opposed to anything USC was doing. So glad that the offense came through in the clutch!

I know our season is far from over but how huge is it that this offseason, we can go into SoCal houses with wins over both LA schools under our belts. This season has suddenly become about turning the tide. The "Awe Factor" of being in the PAC is officially over and now this team honestly expects to win.

It's a good day to be a UTE!!!!

And the longer BYU toils in mediocrity* while this happens, the stronger hold that The U has on the local kids (which is huge since it's not hard for the U to evaluate locals).

*I'm not trying to burn on that one. It's just reality.

I won't pretend to know a whole lot about Utah football but.....

Wasn't Travis Wilson thought of to be a pretty talented dude, but it turns out, at best, he is only somebody who can be a game manager for a good defense/run game? Dude looked pretty mediocre to me for the most part for the 2nd half (the only part of the game I watched).

Kind of reminds me of Bo Wallace, an obviously talented QB, but someone who is far too inconsistent to be trusted to win games from his play and is better off just playing it safe for the majority of the game but has the talent to occasionally pull off a late drive if needed?

Also it's crazy how evenly matched the entire NCAA is this year. Utah could sneak into the playoffs if they keep pulling off wins with the way the major conferences are splitting wins across the board.

How much will Utah move up the rankings since pretty much every ranked team won this week?

Considering that they are also one of the only teams to defeat a ranked team this week?

You also have 24 ranked LSU beating 3rd ranked Ole Piss.

Utah going to be 15? That is what I would guess.

The committee will be coming out with their rankings this week. I wouldn't be surprised to see them stray from the AP. My guess would be.

1-MSU
2-Fl st
3-Oregon
4-TCU
5-Notre Dame
6-Auburn
7-Ole Miss
8-Alabama
9-Michigan St
10-Kansas St
11-Baylor
12-Georgia
13-Arizona
14-Arizona St
15-Utah
16-Ohio St
17-LSU
18-Nebraska
19-Oklahoma
20-Clemson
21-West Virginia
22-East Carolina
23-Marshall
24-UCLA
25-BYU LOL

Lmfao, what a brutal season it must be as a Zoob fan.

Your team is a flaming bag of ****, while your biggest rival is now a 6-1 team in the PAC-12.

I think it has a lot to do with the play calling. Their defense and special teams have been so good, and their receivers have been so suspect to drops that it makes it hard to be aggressive with the offensive play calling. That said when this game was on the line and the team needed something, a game manager does not make plays like that. A game manager loses games like that because of lack of ability to make plays. They put this game in Travis' hands and he pulled it out.
.
He made no major mistakes in the game, played a smart game overall. Fit the ball into some tight spots and made the big plays when needed. He may not be a top 5 QB in the Pac12 but you can't just categorize him as a game manager. At least IMO.
.
On top of that if his surrounding cast does not make major mistakes this game very well could have been a blowout win for the Utes.

I'm just being honest here. Im doing just fine

Good on ya. I'd be trippin if i was a cougar fan.
I guess that ever since byu has been independent I have gotten used to not caring about the season after they lose thier first game.

Combined with the fact that I hate the ute football team less and less every year.

If I were going off the committee's standards, of SOS and injuries right now, my top 4 looks like this:

#1 - FSU - 6 P5 teams, no losses, win over top 5 ND.
#2 - Oregon - 5 P5 teams, only loss was due to an injury, dominating wins.
#3 - Miss St - 4 P5 teams (SOS kills them here. Want to be higher? Quit scheduling weak *** OOC).
#4 - Notre Dame - 6 P5 games, only loss vs #1 FSU.

#5 - Alabama - 6 P5 games, but have played two G5 or lower games. That is what puts them lower than Notre Dame. Again, SEC, want in? Quit scheduling like a sissy. If you throw out the Florida Atl and play @ Indiana...then I'll put you up.

My thoughts after the game:

#1 - If I'm Michigan, I call Whitt with a blank check. Utah doesn't have the talent of most of the PAC-12, yet they are in every game. Could you imagine how good Whitt would be if he had access to better talent? Top 5 coach in football. I honestly believe that. If I'm Utah, I tell Whitt that whatever number he writes down on that check will be his new number on his new contract.

#2 - Wilson. What a gamer. I've always believed in him. Last night was so fun to see. The kid has had to overcome the world and he keeps fighting. He is everything Utah stands for.

#3 - Kessler. Holy cow. What a gamer. I wish we had a QB that good. Kid was lights out. Same with Su'a Cravens. Su'a?!?!?! Why didn't you come play for your Uncle Whittingham? We could use you big time. Could you imagine a backfield with Su'a and Tevin Carter? Ahhh, what could have been.

#4 - TO's almost killed Utah.

#5 - I said Utah would look to Tonga to stabilize the passing game. The kid has hands. Good to see Utah finally go to him.

What a great game. What is crazy, is that Utah has beaten Michigan, UCLA, USC this year. And next week is #14 ASU, then Oregon, then Stanford. Unreal.

Finally, with this win, Utah has accomplished all their goals for this year:

1 - Go to a bowl game.
2 - Win on the road.
3 - Take down a giant at home.
4 - Beat a top 10 team.
5 - Improve the defense.
6 - Improve the offense.
7- Get a long term OC.

No matter what happens, this season was a success.

In all seriousness, the damage that is being done right now for BYU could turn out to be devastating. Losing 4 in a row while Utah is beating USC and UCLA, if you don't think that resonates with recruits and fans not going to games, you're crazy.

The tide has been turning for the last 20 years and it's about to engulf BYU.
