What's new

Congresswoman shot.

This doesn't have any influence whatsoever? Will you honestly say that this couldn't insight an already angry, broken, or unbalanced person to take action into their own hands?

I donna know? Where were you when threats were being made against Bush?

Of course not, but they have influence on these types of unbalanced people.

the civility needs to return. Did you even see a town hall meeting during the health care debate? Have you ever been to a Republican Caucus here in Utah? Wow, you should have seen the inflammatory remarks made to destroy Bennett

Civility in political discourse was never there, even from day one, nor do you want it. Free speech is a free society's way of ferreting out the idiots, racists, and morons.

The only reason the entire board knows you are a complete fool is because of the constant drivel you unleash in virtually every thread thanks to Jason's graciousness.

had favorite books: Animal Farm, Brave New World, The Wizard Of OZ, Aesop Fables, The Odyssey, Alice Adventures Into Wonderland, Fahrenheit 451, Peter Pan, To Kill A Mockingbird, We The Living, Phantom Toll Booth, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Pulp,Through The Looking Glass, The Communist Manifesto, Siddhartha, The Old Man And The Sea, Gulliver's Travels, Mein Kampf, The Republic, and Meno.

That's a bizarre favorite book list for a conservative.

Please no one blame this on a poster...there are crazy people on both sides of everything in this world.

Seriously pathetic, and Im sure the liberal media will follow, that some try to blame Sarah Palin or the tea party for this act of stupidity. The people using this as political ammo are disgusting. Yes, you.

That's a bizarre favorite book list for a conservative.

The funny thing about this post is the insinuation that being a "conservative" or a "liberal" means you have to adhere to that dogma to the letter or you are somehow suspect. Why can't someone with conservative political leanings read books on that list? Why can't a person with liberal leanings occasionally listen to Bill O'Reilly or Glenn Beck. Wow the shallowness of thought is this country is staggering. It won't be too long and no one will actually think, they will just sign up and be told what to think.

Right. Because the right-wing propaganda machine that is infecting this country with venom and hatred has no effect on anything. Words don't matter. Invective doesn't matter. The growing fervor of the pale-brained neo-con movement doesn't matter.

It's all imaginary. Democrats aren't being shot. Their windows aren't being broken. They're not being sent packages that ignite at post offices. They're not receiving death threats. They're not being accused of actually trying to destroy America. They're not being called communists by conservative newscasters. The same newscasters don't rail against federal judges and claim they're destroying the Constitution. The conspiracy nuts aren't focusing their rage on the Democrats.

We have a reasonable disagreement. That's all.

None of this is happening. This event, and all events that might make my side look bad, occurred in a vacuum. You know that. Don't try to lie, now, to make my side look bad. Don't try to make this political, you scum. This shooter was deranged, that's all. There is no cause and effect here. One cannot influence the deranged.

This was not political. This couldn't possibly have been political.

Could this young man have been a CIA operative carrying out a well-orchestrated kamikaze mission? What could be better for the Democrats, now, than to secure their stranglehold on America by creating an event that could lead to the end of free speech? Think about it: In the wake of Wikileaks, we already see them erasing whistle-blower protections. We already see the FDA under Obama's administration compromising the freedom of the internet. If an event occurred -- such as this shooting -- that could be blamed on the propaganda (as the Commucrats would call it) of the right-wing, it would set the stage for Obama to finally begin to regulate the air-waves, to silence Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones... In furtherance of the New World Agenda, B. Hussein Obama will use every power of his administration to silence we, the righteous opposition. We cannot let that happen. We must be ever vigilant. We must be ever watchful. We must prepare for the polar shift, and wait for our chance to (strike that)... wait for our time.

Of course tonight we grieve along with the families of the injured and the deceased. Join me in praying for the souls of the innocent. Join me in praying for the destruction of our enemies, the Democrats.

REP'D.

One need only to read the comments section on ANY SITE that produces an article on Obama to get a GENERAL idea of how psychotic many of the teabaggers and people of their ilk are. The amount of irrational vitriol they incessantly spew is just disgusting.

The only insinuation that was off base is yours. He's being labeled a conservative in the media, I didn't call them that. If anything, I was pointing out that he probably isn't either. He seems to love control, and hate being controlled at the same time. Nobody said he couldn't read those books. Everybody should read Huxley and Orwell especially because they were very tied into governments. Their works aren't complete fiction, they were writing what the elite of the world told them about the direction we are headed.

First of all, The Thriller is BeanClown, 'nuff said.

Secondly, I agree with you Inn, just look at the comment section of KSL.com -- oh wait, you can't because the website decided to close them due to all of the hate-speech and absurdities coming from the readers. I've never read such ignorant hatred and full-on stupidity anywhere.

Thirdly, a certain member of my family has flat out said that she hopes someone assassinates Obama. Oh ya, she worships Glenn Beck like he's the second coming of Christ himself. (he was banned here, btw -- thanks Colton, you heathen.)

My Christmas present from my mother this year was the Glenn Beck novel 'The Christmas Sweater.'

But it's cool. I didn't get her anything.

You made the insinuation not me. I don't care who labeled him. I never said you labeled him. I just pointed out that the judgement you made was based on that label and that is what is wrong with american politics. No such thing as open discourse, just "if you don't agree with me, you are evil", or stupid or a liar or whatever needs to be said to advance whatever dogma they are pushing. You proved the point there. That is a strange book list FOR A CONSERVATIVE. There is the insinuation. That being conservative somehow means you have to think a certain way. That comment is a very clear representation of the problems in american politics today. Even if you didn't mean it that way, it still sums it up nicely.

Wow, you're serious? Nevermind the dude probably has some serious mental issues, it's all the Tea Party's fault!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 22-year-old man suspected in the deadly shooting rampage Saturday in Arizona was described by the local sheriff as "unstable" and with a "kind of troubled past."

Fox News sources identified the suspected shooter as Jared Loughner.

At a press conference held Saturday evening, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said the man suspected in the mass shooting that left six dead and more than a dozen injured has a criminal background and "there is reason to believe he has a mental issue."

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," the sheriff said.

"And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

Rep. Giffords in Critical Condition After Being Shot in the Head at Public Event

Loughner is suspected of posting a series of YouTube videos that show a focus on literacy and currency -- as well as his distrust in the government.

"Hello, my name is Jared Lee Loughner," one of the videos says, in words appearing on the screen. "This video is my introduction to you! My favorite activity is conscience dreaming; the greatest inspiration for my political business information. Some of you don't dream - sadly."

The video, posted Dec. 15, later turns more political.

"The majority of citizens in the united states of America have never read the united states of America's constitution. You don't have to accept the federalist laws," the video's titles say. "In conclusion, reading the second United States constitution, I can't trust the current government because of the ratifications: the government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar. No! I won't pay debt with a currency that's not backed by gold and silver! No! I won't trust in god!"

Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was among the people critically wounded in the shooting at a public event in Tucson, and several people were killed, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old boy.

Officials have said little publicly about the suspect in custody, but law enforcement sources who asked to remain anonymous identify him as Loughner.

Records obtained from the Pima County, Ariz. criminal database show Loughner was arrested in 2007 for possessing drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor charge. The records suggest that Loughner paid a $20 fee and completed a court-ordered program for drug offenders.

Three months later he was cited for running a stop sign, according to court documents.

Another record shows a 2008 arrest for what’s described as a “local charge” in Marana, Ariz., 20 miles northwest of Tucson. The non-criminal charge was dismissed.

Loughner's page on YouTube lists Tucson as his hometown. He also said he attended Northwest Aztec College and Pima County Community College. And in one of the videos, he says he is a military recruit.

But an Army official told Fox News Loughner attempted to enlist in the Army in December 2008 but was denied.

The Army provided this statement:

"The Army has confirmed that the suspect was never in the Army. He attempted to enlist in the Army but was rejected for service. In accordance with the Privacy Act, we will not discuss why he was rejected."

In other videos, Loughner calls the people of District 8, his Ariz. district, illiterate.

In a bizarre equation that Loughner appears to mean as example of deductive reasoning, he concludes that "the police are unconstitutional."

In yet another rant verging on the paranoid, he says:

“I know who’s listening: Government Officials, and the People. Nearly all the people, who don’t know this accurate information of a new currency, aren’t aware of mind control and brainwash methods. If I have my civil rights, then this message wouldn’t have happen.”

He lists reading under interests, as well as "conscience dreams," and among his favorite books are "Mein Kampf," the "Communist Manifesto," "Animal Farm" and "Brave New World."

In a comment posted on MySpace three months ago in connection with a video about Pima Community College, Loughner wrote: "Hello, I know you’re illiterate! This is the greatest protest for exposure into a wrongful act. The school is breaking the constitution. If you watch the video then you’ll understand. The teachers are taking advantage of you in the first and Fifth Amendment. The United States Constitution, which is the law, can be broken at this school. Thank you and goodnight! Jared"

His last writing on his MySpace page was just hours before the shooting.

"Goodbye friends," he wrote. "Please don't be mad at me."
