What's new

GM #9: 11/12/2014 - Utah Jazz(3-5) @ Atlanta Hawks(3-3) [5.30 PM MDT, 7.30 PM ET and 1.30 AM CET]

Hahahhahahhahahhaha such an epic 4th quarter hahaah, PG_AB wins(again), I live for basketball season. My accuracy this season is the best its ever been.

I had visions of Korver being left wide open all day.

???? Starting to think this guy has conversations with himself. Y'all think ennie is sick....this dude is out there.

It was a rough ending, but I'm not too upset with this game.

Hayward plays great last game and everyone else sucks, everyone is much better today and Hayward goes cold. Can't catch a break. Still a much better game than that last turdfest

It was nice to see the Jazz in the game to the end though. Last year you're down 15 all night.

Simply for defensive reasons. But I agree with you. Kanter should have stayed in. I think more than anything it messed with team chemistry. But in the coaches defense, all these experiences will help later in the year. Young coach.

Agreed, Hayward not good tonite (except for start of 3rd).

Snyder outcoached himself.

Team has a different feel...Can't put my finger on it, feels like we are "close"

Key is to keep the faith until we can learn and not give up/quit....

We could've easily lost this game by 30. I'm impressed that we were in it and I'm control that's good to see on the road. Now just gotta get more experience and learn to put games away. Last night the pacers have us a chance to get back in it and tonight the Hawks started 0-5 in the fourth.

I think the Jazz's biggest problem right now is that none of their rotation guards or wings are knock-down perimeter shooters. Defenses just back off and clog the lane like they always have.

If you're playing against the Jazz, you just back off Trey, Alec, Gordon and Exum and let them try to beat you with the long ball. I think what Snyder is trying to do just doesn't work if your guys shoot 33% on jumpers.

All our guys are pretty good going to the rim, but none of them are deadly outside shooters. They're all streaky at best.

This offense seems to get wide open 15-20 footers and the jazz take them.

I'm not sure if taking those shots is a good idea or not (seems that's what the defense wants you to do) but it seems to be the gameplan right now.
Trey, Alec, hayward, kanter, all get alot of open looks from that range.

Hayward has been hitting them before tonight, Burks was hitting them tonight, kanter has been hitting them too.

Should we continue to shoot them?

I don't understand Quin substitutions...he benchs players when they are hot...he benched Booker early in the 4th quarter when he was on fire on defense...then he put him back on the court in the last minute over Kanter without sense!
Quin had his worst game coaching tonight. He needs to quit overcoaching and relax so his team can understand what the heck he is thinking.

Gotta feel bad for Favors choking out there in his ATL. Horrific pass to Booker, and backing off Korver. Ouch.

That's what the defenses are giving us. It's not like we make them pay like Dirk Nowitzki or anything.

Those shots will be there with 5 seconds left. No reason to take them with 14 seconds left. Work for a better shot.

Those two possesions could have won the game for us but so a lot of other things. I almost jumped out of my bed thinking Favors was going for a dunk. That would have been awesome.

I agree.
The question is, should the jazz players just pass up those open shots or keep shooting them?

If we pass those looks up, we might end up taking a more difficult shot later in the possession/shot clock

Good answer. And I agree..... I wonder if snyder is encouraging these types of shots or if he gets mad at those types of attempts

He said in preseason I think that they need to step back and hit the 3pt shot. I don't think any coach wants his players to take long 2s early in the clock.

If you're referring to the pull-ups, absolutely. That shot will be available with <7 seconds left. There's no reason to shoot them with 15 seconds left on the shot clock. Even with <7 seconds left on the clock, I'm not sure a 20-foot pull-up is any better than putting your head down and barreling toward the rim.

I think you have to shoot the open spot-ups, however. Even those from just inside the 3-point line.

I'm not sure. I'm looking at the Jazz's shot chart by quarter, and they did a much better job getting to the rim in quarters 1 - 3 vs. the 4th quarter. It depends who has the open look, but most of our guys would be better off driving and trying to make a play at the rim. We didn't have many free-throw attempts, and the Hawks didn't have many blocks. I'd like to see the Jazz challenge their match-ups physically.

Reply honestly: would you prefer that the Jazz win, or that you be right? I'm just curious.

has this ever been in question here?!?! the true answer to your question is both, its complex, because im hedged all sorts of ways.

jeez, yall certainly have plenty of bad things to say about me... but dont really seem to know my deal... whatsoever..

Im a bettor first and fan 2nd, but its not close. my allegiance is to winning. I view these more as opportunities than games or entertainment, tbh, It wouldnt hold my attention otherwise...

I'd have never stopped being a Knicks fan if that wasnt the case, Im not emotionally attatched to any of these teams, that leaves room for error. i bet for and against all of them, I felt it was best for my learning curve to switch squads and dissect another fanbases psychology.

That's what I thought..... but that seems to be a staple of this offense and all of our wings/perimeter guys do it..... So wouldn't that have to be getting encouraged by snyder to a certain extent?
