Legalize marijuana?

Go ahead and legalize it, I still think those who smoke it are stupid, but that's their choice. I'm all about letting people make their own choices.

I think people who live in Oklahoma are stupid too, but that's their choice to do so.

Revenue in CO has been far less than expected, last I heard.

Biggest problem is the "legalize it and tax the hell out of it" notion many people have and have had for a long time. There are already ways to get it illegally without paying taxes. Sales tax or slightly more would work, but extra high (no pun intended) taxes will keep people going to their friendly neighborhood pot dealer.

Glad you brought this up. There are several flaws in the system here that need to be fixed. Laws in Colorado are better than here, from what I know. To address your point, it's true that as of now, the prices are so high that they are indeed not touching the black market, and have created another market altogether. That comes from locals who don't have BM connections(or their dealer is out), or who wouldn't buy it illegally, as well as the tourism market, which includes people who come here for other reasons and decide to indulge, and people who travel here specifically for legal pot.

One of the best reasons for legalization, is taking money from cartels and putting it into the tax system. However, in order to do this, you have to be competitive price wise, and if you did that, you'd pretty much be flooding the state with legal pot. As of now, I think they are content to rake in high taxes, while at the same time trying limit the amount of pot available. It's a valid concern, but I really, really hope they will eventually decide to try and take the profitability of the black market.

My other complaint pertains to two aspects of the industry that were supposed to be addressed by legalization. Taking on the black market and more importantly, removing the burden that pot puts on the legal system. Even though they've taken a step in the right direction, it's still illegal to grow even a single plant, unless you have a med card. Co. and Or. will both allow you to grow a few plants legally, but not in Washington, which goes completely against the problems that we are trying to solve. Allowing people to do this would cut into the black market, as well as avoiding putting people through the system over something trivial.

Apparently, people who don't drink can also be stupid.

Agree. Good thing I'm not someone who doesn't drink. I was trying to make a point about people who drink and yet make general statements about weed. It's lazy, and I have no doubt Lefty is smarter than that. Overindulgence with pot or alcohol can be stupid, but claiming that any use=stupidity smacks of social stigma without putting much actual thought into the subject. Maybe understandable for someone who abstains completely, but inexcusable by someone who indulges in a mind-altering substance. There are plenty of people who think the same thing about alcohol, regardless of how responsible you are while doing so.

Fwiw, I'm not getting fired for drinking alcohol. I am getting fired for smoking pot. I know all jobs aren't like that, heck…maybe most jobs aren't even like that, but I just think it's foolish to put something like alcohol/marijuana/etc ahead of a career/potential career. Now I know that there are always exceptions, and that some people are successful and smoke pot…I just don't see the purpose/reason. I guess you could make a similar argument for alcohol and I wouldn't really disagree with you there either. It's not necessary, but I know that for me, it doesn't alter my mind like marijuana does. If it did, then I wouldn't drink.

Obviously if someone smokes pot when they could be fired for it, that's stupid behavior. I don't have a problem with that statement. I do have a problem with general statements like the one you made. What it comes down to is alcohol is your drug of choice. However, just because you prefer one drug over another, it really proves nothing when comparing the substances. In fact, if you take a good look at how these 2 drugs impact society, alcohol is definitely stupider than weed. However, that in no way means that drinking is stupid. Use of any substance can be stupid, but the use itself doesn't make it stupid, so much as the manner in which someone uses.

I would argue that one beer isn't going to impact me the same way that a bowl or joint would. Also, 'more stupid' is generally preferred over 'stupider'. I wouldn't want you looking stupider ;).

To me it's mainly about how much it alters your current state of thinking. And I think smoking (any kind) is generally not very good for your health.
