Hey Viny, come to WV for some hiking. Not as much wilderness within many other states in the US.

That is just the type of thing I love to do. Maybe I'll have to take a gander up that way after wifey finally pops. There is so much of that type of stuff in the Uintas it's not even funny. The Uintas are perfect right now - wildflowers and all. If anyone wants to do an easy 3 hour roundtrip hike with their girlfriend, wife or significant other, you should check out the trail to Notch Lake (at the base of Notch mountain). About 2.5 miles to the lake you pass about 4 other lakes, through evergreens, streams, wildflower meadows, and have great views of the peaks - it's pretty much flat both ways so you can have good conversation and not be out of breath. Go up mirror lake highway from Kamas, around mile 24-28take a left to the Bald Mountain trailhead parking lot. From the map at the trail head go left towards notch lake. Great fishing, camping and cold water swimming - not a lot of people.
How about some good WV hikes that I could do in a day trip from the D.C. area? I'll be living in Alexandria, VA for the next 3 years and need to keep it wild. Thanks KM32MVP.
I'm planning to hike to the top of Mount Timpanogos one week from today!
I summited San Gorgonio this past weekend. Man, what a fun but miserable experience that was. 6 pack of peaks completed.
Congrats! I didn't know the hike, so I read about it here: https://www.summitpost.org/san-gorgonio/150533
Looks pretty comparable, or maybe even a little tougher, than my Mount Timpanogos hike mentioned a couple of posts previously. How long did it take?
Best thing about Timp are the mountain goats. I love mountain goats.
Wow. Mount Timpanogos looks completely legit. More info please. How long did it take you? What kind of elevation? Snow? Were there other people on the trail?
Re: SG
From the Aspen Grove trailhead
... it's 12 miles up and about 4000 feet of elevation. So 24 miles round trip.
Really? That's kind of cool? Are they assholes?
I had a moose chase me in Yellowstone. I was on a little moped and was going as fast as I could go (maybe 20 mph).... it got pretty close to catching me before giving upYes, real wild goats on the Timp hike. They were pretty tame from what I could see.
We also saw a moose. Apparently you have to watch out a bit more for them, but it didn't bother us.
