No internet message board poster, particularly us on Jazzfanz, can relate to signing a contract for a guaranteed $40 million in a 4-year span and what that can do to our psyche over the course of the next few weeks after it is done. I'd like to think Alec "relaxed" a little bit.

The Jazz have a ton of issues on both ends of the court due to the players' respective inexperience and/or lack of skill in specific aspects of the game, thus we've looked like dog **** on the court the last couple weeks. Alec not being in consistent attack mode and getting into foul trouble certainly hasn't helped matters. If we're going to be successful in terms of winning games, Burks is going to need to give us at least 17 a game. He can EASILY do that, and has done so in the past. It's time for him to quit playing it cool and get back to playing for that cash!

Against the Nuggets, Burks will need to attack Afflalo on both ends. It's a tough match-up. Let's see what he and the rest of our guys are made of tonight in front of what appears to be a consistently sedated half-empty ESA.

Ty Lawson is a terror and is playing at a high level. If we can't keep him out of the lane tonight, we're cooked. It's really that simple.

Fwiw last game Alec was good on the offensive end.
4-6 from the field, 12 points, led the team in assists, only one turnover. He played less minutes because he got a little banged up during the game

Pretty good numbers though

For a bench role player, yeah. For a starter expected to handle a large part of the scoring load? Nah.

Here's to a good December for Burks though. Get it started off right.

Also, for as bad as we all think Alec has been this year, he is at career highs in a number of areas.

He is almost at 37% from three (36.8% this year. previous career high was 35.9) on a career high attempts per game

He is making 85.1% from the line. (Previous career high was 74.8)

His rebounding is up from last year.... and it's not just because of his minute increase since his per 36 is up as well.

His turnovers per 36 is down from last year

To me his biggest contributor to his poor play is that his two point attempts have went from 11.3 per 36 to 9.2 and his free throws attempts went from 6.1 per 36 to 4.2....and his overall shot attempts are down as well (13.6 to 11.6)

He is taking more threes, and passing more, while shooting less and attacking less.

Maybe this is good because he is learning how to play within the system. Maybe not.

Problem is, other teams couldn't give a rat's *** about letting Trey or Enes shoot from outside. The Clippers had 5 players who were threats. Try to guard the paint, and they rain down 3's. Try to go out and challenge the 3 and Griffin or Jordan get easy buckets inside.

IMO, Jazz only have two legit starters: Hayward and Favors. Burks is better suited to come off the bench. And Trey and Kanter need to be gone.

I agree.

But, I'd actually keep Kanter around for the right price as a bench scorer. He'd look better if the guards in front of him weren't complete trash on the defensive end. But, yeah, obviously if he can be traded for good value, then he goes, too.

Get Trey outta here. Schroeder is better already. That didn't take long, did it.

So what should he have done last game in your opinion?

Shoot more? Everyone had said he doesn't pass enough all his career. Now he is passing more.
Hayward was on fire after the first quarter so I wanted hayward getting all the shots (Burks did most of his scoring in the first when hayward was not shooting and was on the bench for the second half of the quarter)

When he was out with his injury he couldn't score much

Don't really care about those stats. I have hardly every felt him take a game over and really influence the outcome or have a convincingly positive effect on the team. The only game where I felt he really helped the team was teh OKC game. Other than that he has just been a role player out there, not a key difference maker.

Play better. Go out there and put your stamp on the game. Stop playing bad and step up your energy level. He plays the entire 1st quarter and we are awful in that quarter. He has plenty of opportunities to do stuff.

Just stating some positives bro. Not a big deal.
I think it's good that he is rebounding better, passing better, and shooting better from three and the line.

Agree to disagree I guess.

When the team is awful and trey or Gordon plays well statistically you just say that the rest of the team sucks and it's not those players fault.

Burks comes out in the first quarter and scores ten points, leads the team in assists, and cp3 and Blake kill trey and kanter = alecs fault for the poor start.

I'm done with this conversation. I hope you stop responding to my posts. I would appreciate it.

He is playing basketball worse.
I have never said he isn't. I was just showing that it isn't ALL bad things.
Sorry for the positive thoughts. I will try to only talk of negative things in the future

Dear Jazzfanz,

Alec needs to have a bigger imprint on the game. Especially on defense. Stats don't reveal what a wallflower he's been.

Signed,

NAOS, a Burks fan.

Still think he plays the 6th man role best. He gets to come in, create off the dribble, be the primary focal point of the offense etc.... He's not a starter at this point in his career. Some are just better fitted to come off the bench (See Crawford from LAC).
