What's new

I want lineup changes!

Start Exum, Hood and Hayward, and then see if our perimeter defense isn't like 300% better than it has been.

Bingo! What's been killing us if not 3-point 'daggers' like Hayward called them during practice. They sting to the point that the team gets down by over 10 pts and it's over, too late... I just want to see a little darn effort when the opponent shoots the ball. I cringe when I see one of our players jumping too far from the shooter, you might as well not do anything and save the energy, or I know, have them duck when the other player is just about to release the ball. I bet it's more distracting than what we're doing now. Changes, I want changes, or at least see that there's an effort to make them.

Yyyyep. 'Ride the pine boy! You need to learn how to catch the ball in professional situations!'

I think Rudy can handle it. He did fine in FIBA catching the ball. I think it's more the haphazard lineups that he plays with that are causing the mishaps, as well as passes that aren't always on the money.

One problem has been that veteran guards like Ty Lawson, Reggie Jackson and Kyle Lowry have been getting by Trey Burke like he's hardly there. Then we have to start making defensive rotations that inevitably leave someone open or give someone space to drive and break us down. But once Exum guards some of these guys he can normally contain them with his length, since they're not used to seeing a defender with his range who can recover and block their shots even if they do get a step on him. Having Rudy Gobert patroling the paint also helps a ton. The line-up that the Jazz played against Denver when we came back from 15-points down was one of our better defensive line-ups.

The other factor is that when our bigs get pulled out of position to hedge on defense, they're not in position to get rebounds. So we've been giving up a lot of offensive boards. If our guards are going to require help on D like they have been, they need to try to help rebound to compensate.

I'm going to continue to call you out on this ********. You're a ****ing tool.
Well done!
You tell him!

but Corbin decided Kanter should be the scapegoat for the slow start

I'm going to continue to call you out on this ********. You're a ****ing tool.

You just don't get it, do you? It's a well known fact that even if something is completely made up, it becomes true if only you repeat it enough times.

Favors needs to play PF, not C. He is nothing special as a Defensive C and would be above average as a PF. His offense would also be better having PF guard him. You also get Rudy to help protect the rim, which makes everybody's defense better.

That said, I think they want Rudy to grow and improve. They also want to see what Kanter can do as a starter with a lot of minutes. I'm OK with keeping things how they are for a while, maybe even the whole year. I do see a Favors/Rudy duo with Kanter off the bench, or on another team down the road though.

Who got benched?
Kanter didn't get a chance to play with Burke when Trey got into the lineup. You're the ******* tool by refusing to admit it. When you want to identify a problem, you do so by eliminating ONE variable at a time. Tinsley and Lucas were the WORST PG duo in the history of the NBA. I don't care if the Jazz had been playing with Karl Malone at PF. With those two idiots at PG, the potential for ANY wins was close to ZERO. After 8 losses, Garrett replaced Tinsley. Burke got his first action in game #13, but was a backup. Kanter never started when Burke did. The game Corbin decided to start Trey (against OKC in game #15) was the same game he sent Kanter to the bench. That's on Corbin...no one else. Lindsey said Ty was 100% responsible for the lineups and he never interfered.

Kanter took the blame and carried it all season long. Every time he "started" and the Jazz lost, the media brought up the stat about the Jazz' record when Kanter started. Never mind that Kanter starting after the initial 13 games was when Favors was out. Hardly fair to say it was Kanter to blame when the Jazz played without their 2nd best player. And actually, with the way Hayward stunk it up last season, Favors may have been Utah's best player.

Simple question: Is every coach blaming/scapegoating a player for a team's poor performance every time he changes the starting lineup?

Corbin tried something different, liked what he saw, and stuck with it. He never said a damn thing to place blame on any particular player for the poor start.

Kanter didn't get a chance to play with Burke when Trey got into the lineup.
Kanter and Trey played 1028 minutes together last season. That's a bit more than 45% of Trey's minutes.

You're the ******* tool by refusing to admit it.
Admit what? That Corbin made a lineup change? That you're a delusional drama queen?

Irrelevant.

Kanter never started when Burke did.
Kanter and Burke started 23 games together last season.

So...the coach (and FO?) should let the media dictate how the team is run? Corbin isn't responsible for the ******** stories the media drums up. If there exists an article in which a Utah media member claims that Corbin was blaming Kanter for the poor start, and punishing him by moving him to the bench, I'd love for you to link to it. I've asked for this before, you've never come up with anything, yet you continue with this nonsense.

Oh so many things I could respond to, GVC. But in your love for Corbin (are you and franklin the same person?) you ignored the most relevant and took some of my statements completely out of context. Until injuries to Favors and then late in the season, Corbin did NOT start Burke and Kanter together. My statement directly related to the the early games and I showed you exactly when Kanter was benched and Trey took over as the starter. Scapegoating is precisely making a lineup change and benching certain players. And instead of isolating one problem (the terrible PG's), Corbin changed both the PG's AND Kanter. There is NO WAY to isolate a problem when you change two variables. Although I use the term "decent" PG lossely when it comes to Burke, we never had the chance to see Kanter start with Trey until either Favors was hurt or late in the season when the "core5" finally had some time to play together. Many of those 23 starts are irrelevant because they came with Favors out of the lineup. That changes the dynamics of the starting group.

I only brought up the media statements because Corbin did nothing to stick up for his player. Ty could have easily said something about missing Favors, or that most of those games were early in the season when the whole team was playing poorly. You and franklin have often stated your belief in Ty as a great player development coach. What I saw from Kanter was a guy whose confidence was completely destroyed. And at this level, the game is as much mental as physical.

Ty simply ran out of excuses and was wisely dismissed by Lindsey.

who is this guy????

Booker is filler, nothing more.. love his heart and attitude, but he's too undersized at his position to be consistently meaningful. Moving on..

dont mean to burst anyones bubbles...but most of the roster is filler, brah. this is a tankin team.
might as well play the dude wit heart and tude and #TheD. enjoy the moment. #FreeTheD

But then he might get the idea he is actually a starter. I like Booker's attitude and effort, but he's actually tailed off since the first handful of games. Leave him in his role. I'd much rather see Favors and Gobert get more time together. I know Gobert really isn't ready to start, but he has been in there when the Jazz have made some runs. Jazz simply cannot continue to give up 60+ points per half and fall behind by double-digits in the 1st quarter
